I love and have so much respect for John Cho! He is one of the few Asian American actors I look up too, especially after this interview. About him not being able to speak his language, I think it would be nice but not important. I wouldn't want him doing more Korean films than American films because there are too few respectful Asian American men in Hollywood. I also loved how he used Will Smith as an example of an actor that can play completely different roles.
omg. i don't know why kpop stars and korean actors in korea get plastic surgery, they are sooooo handsome with out it. HELLO, john cho is like a prime example!
Aww hes so cute being all serious. He musta been nervous being watched by a whole nation, that he was raised in but doesnt kno that well. I love him, hes freakin talented. And by the way I'm black so not only asians love him.
guys, whether he speaks Korean or not is all from the parents. Nothing else, I was born in Vietnam, came here 6 and am 22 now and I can speak Vietnamese fluently because I speak it to my parents. Me? whichever language you speak coming up to me for the first time, I'll use that toward you or else it will get very awkward for me. I can't speak English to my parents even if I wanted to.
@cinemasia He's not considered a foreigner in Korea, but an overseas Korean. He can speak Korean, but basic Korean. He needs to present his best self, so he needs to use the language he speaks best, English.
Most of you people complaining about John Cho not being fluent in Korean. Don't judge him because you don't know his life. There are plenty of Asian-Americans who aren't exactly fluent in the their "parents" "native" language i.e. Jeremy Lin (whose parents are from Taiwan). Although it would be great for him to speak multiple languages, at least he's not completely White-washed and only dates like White girls and doesn't shun away from the Asian-american communities.
@melonbarmonster Well, some people do speak slowly because they think it helps translators. Simultaneous interpreters have to translate on the spot, so speaking slowly can help them catch the words faster and give them time to think over their translation.
@tkglobe85 yeah but he moved to America when he was six, so it's not weird that he doesn't speak it. If anything blame the parents, as they obviously didn't speak it to him enough for him to remember it.
@armydaniels91 it's hard, especially if your folks are trying to learn english as quickly as possible so that they can integrate themselves into the community. Unless they consciously decide that you aren't allowed to speak english at home and set down rules it's quite easy to let your mother language slip away, and 5-6 years later, you can barely speak a word.
He's a first generation. I'm sure he spoke Korean at home with his parent(s) for a long time. So I don't know why he's not fluent in it. Was he adopted or something?lol
Now I knew that why many artists don't want to see their appearance in the movie they starred, especially those embarass scenes which you think are funny.
john cho's a pretty cool guy. i respect him. what i don't like is bobby lee cuz' he'd take any role, that includes the ones where is has to do stereotypes. just look at madtv with his asian stereotypes. i find it bit insulting.
These western movie companies refuse to take asians for roles and when they ever do it's a role to mock or undermine the asian community, it's pretty disgusting. Not going to support Hollywood anymore this shit needs to come to an end, there's lots of other things to watch.
@rabbitsmakemesquirm I don't know why they would do something like that. Trying to make him as much American as possible when he's not even a natural American?so sad.....
I think it would be important for him to speak korean because of his roots. it would be embarassing to me to come to the land I was born and not to know how to speak the language
Such a disgrace that he cant speak his own language lol...I am currently stationed in Korea now, for eight months and I probably know more Korean than him
It’s a disadvantage for him, true. But I seriously don’t think that’s a disgrace. He moved to U.S when he was 6 and probably has never used that since then, based on his age, I believe that’s completely understandable for him to have a poor Korean.
He's boring. He seems nervous. Speaking korean or not doesn't matter. He's not even technically korean. but i got impression that he valued korean legacy and that's more important.
"One thing that an actor can do, is to say 'no', and it is the most powerful tool we have."
Holly shit. His korean accent is f****** cute!!!!

Always nice to see asian actors with enough self-respect for himself and his ethnicity to not settle for "stereotype" roles.
well-spoken and thoughtful; I appreciate his statement at the end about saying no to stereotypical or insulting roles.

John Cho was in St John of Las Vegas with Steve Buscemi recently. AWESOME movie! and John Cho is a awesome actor.!
i don't know who clicked "dislike." cause this man is cute and talented. thanks for the upload!
John Cho moved to USA when he was 6.
He was born in Seoul, so he can speak basic Korean.
I love that John Cho would do any asian role expect for those with accents. I hate people who make laughs or money on such awful stereotypes of us
cool thanks for uploading!
@cinemasia He's not considered a foreigner in Korea, but an overseas Korean. He can speak Korean, but basic Korean. He needs to present his best self, so he needs to use the language he speaks best, English.
American celebrities can get Korean citizenship by due to their talent. He's considered a Overseas Korean foreigner by law.
@armydaniels91 His "own" language is English. Moving to US when you are young pretty much forces you to speak English.
agreed. i love him
he's so hot.

Dam! My man can speak Korean. I love this guy in Harold in Kumar.

7:43 so many idiotic comments while not talking about this hilarious moment lol
@tkglobe85 yeah but he moved to America when he was six, so it's not weird that he doesn't speak it. If anything blame the parents, as they obviously didn't speak it to him enough for him to remember it.

@cinemasia He can speak at least a little. He has in other interviews. He probably said that because he is not fluent.
john cho's roll in Off Center was a culthit.
I agree with you man. They should teach the kids spanish. a bilingual education has only positive aspects on your life
@Lerax429 Everyone is different, some people forget their language after few years.
that was probably the worst clip to choose from John Cho's career to show in S. Korea! LMAOOOO. He must have felt so damn awkward
what a stupid question. are you the hottest man alive. yes, why not
He's a first generation. I'm sure he spoke Korean at home with his parent(s) for a long time. So I don't know why he's not fluent in it. Was he adopted or something?lol

The
i'm korean and i can't speak korean...
Oh its so weird
Oh its so weird
What an ignorant statement. He's still Asian regardless of his language abilities.
Crybaby needs to look exactly like someone to connect to them.....sad
@rabbitsmakemesquirm I don't know why they would do something like that. Trying to make him as much American as possible when he's not even a natural American?so sad.....
I think it would be important for him to speak korean because of his roots. it would be embarassing to me to come to the land I was born and not to know how to speak the language
Wow, he was voted "Sexist Man Alive"? That sucks. I guess he doesn't have many female fans because of that.
Such a disgrace that he cant speak his own language lol...I am currently stationed in Korea now, for eight months and I probably know more Korean than him

Oh gooosh. This is shocking. A Korean who cannot talk in their own language. Same with Leslie Chow? Ken Jeong.
and u took no effort to learn ''your'' language?
He introduced himself in Korean.
