Art, you are a blessed man. Great wife, wonderful kids, a small farm, a great barn, productive animals and great job. I look forward to seeing what you can plant for the short term and long term this year. FEDCO, I had not thought of them in years. Thanks for the reminder. I pray all goes well with the new baby. America needs more couples like you two. Independent, frugal and hard work. God bless your family. God bless America.
Seeing all those catalogues gets me excited for what could be!! Yesterday I bought my own homestead in Victoria Australia. Watching your video today has got me thinking of the abundance that the future holds. Thanks for letting me share your lives and inspiring me to act!
We love Murray McMurray for our chickens. And the people at the post office love it when the baby chicks come in the mail. We got most of our orchard plants from Isons, they are really good, and have done well in this area. And we live about 3 hours from Asheville, so they should do well in your area.
Was so excited to learn about. The sweet potato leaves. Can't wait to grow them this year! Thank you for the article. And the fact that the kids liked it convinces my hubby to try them.
Having vitamin c (oranges etc) with your food helps to absorb the iron in your food, and don't have milk products when eating meat as this blocks the absorption of iron.this might help. Love "spending time" with you guys. Xx
I also had problems with anemia while pregnant and this is the same advice I was given. Calcium blocks iron absorption and vitamin C facilitates it. Red meat has its own iron absorption helpers, plants do not. My midwife advised me to drink alfalfa tea also.
I'm not pregnant but I have chronically low iron. I am wondering about the alfalfa tea? Where does one get that? I know with black tea the tanins will hinder iron absorption.. Janice
jksatte I bought it at a health food store. They had containers with bulk ingredients that they measured out for me. I drank mine with a drop of a citrus essential oil or lemon juice.
You're just glowing Bri, looking forward to the baby. I understand that older hens stop laying in the winter and then start laying again as the temperature warms up. Did you see the ancient watermelon in the Baker Creek catalog. The seeds were found in a bag in a cave. Some of the seeds grew when planted. They have some interesting plants offered. Can't go wrong with kale and blueberries. Thanks for sharing guys.
I love all of your videos!! Bri is such a beautiful pregnant mommy. In spite of being anemic, she is glowing! When is the new baby due? It warms my heart to watch both of you interact with your beautiful children. ❤ In my opinion, they are growing up with a perfect childhood! I'm amazed how both of you are always so patient & calm with your children & your animals. Wishing you all a very happy & blessed day! ❤
Yay it worked this time :) Seed catalogs are so much fun! I got a bunch of seeds for edible flowers to use in our tea club teas! Can't wait!!! I planted kale, radishes and spinach in the greenhouse. It was 60 degrees then, now we have our first snow and it's in the teens lol
Bri - Since you are taking Iron tablets, make sure you are taking Vitamin C with it. I have pretty severe anemia and took Iron for a long time with no appreciable results UNTIL I started taking Vitamin C! Hope that helps.
Murray McMurray Hatchery from good ole Webster City, Iowa!! I love this hatchery and my grandparents at one time raised stock for them. :) My grandpa came with me to pick up my very first order of my own from them. Since we picked our order up at the hatchery we ended up with more then I ordered. LOL My grandpa knew there was always "extras" and we got to pick several from the "extras" box. ;-) Fantastic memories and miss my grandpa dearly.
glad everyone is eating out of one pan and that pan is clean and all are happy, I think you need to get all your friends around for a party and get hem working on the cans in the basement, getting the garden going it could be a pre-baby shower/ sort the homestead out for the new baby, that way you have an all-day work party come party, like a barn raising!!!!
I recently watched vlog that shows how to store eggs over the winter - in a mixture of 'lime' and water - (check the type of lime!!) Tests showed that after 8 months + eggs were 1 day fresh
Great videos, we love watching you, stinks your not getting eggs, our 10 hens have been laying 2-6 a day through our cold Maine winter! Its crazy. God bless!
Thank you for the video it inspired me to cook kale in my left over venison stew(mostly liquid)and it was amazing! We have loads of kale in the garden so it was great to use what we had and end up with a healthy meal.
lol, dropped egg. But you have to let the kids learn somehow. My kids are always wrecking things in the garden, but every time they learn more, and get closer to being able to do all the work for me, lol
I love your channel! Bri is beautiful! I had to giggle at "Is having kids a hobby?". I'm a mom of soon to be 7 and a couple of my middle kids have started piping up, "No, they just collect 'em" whenever someone asks "Are they all yours?" I guess they've all gotten tired of hearing that question lol
Thanks for re-uploading. This winter, we have had our severest egg drop off yet. But as of last week, the egg numbers have slowly started to rise. Hope your chickens follow suit. 😀
What a great video. We just finished our first chicken coop with a run. I've been building the garden soil up since last year and next month I will start planting! Come on Spring time! Bri I was very anemic when I was pregnant too. Liver was the key for me and once I ate it I craved it and asparagus! I hated asparagus! Lol!
If you add some tomatoes in with your kale in the cast iron skillet, you get mega iron. Orange juice with your iron supplements will make it more accessible. Acids help iron absorption. Watch out for high oxalic foods - they bind to minerals and lead to kidney stones, gout and arthritis. Lots of love and prayers for a safe and healthy birth.
That's better! I thought you got flagged by you tube for a minute. I had 5 kids and I went through the same thing Bri is. But she looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing!
We have 3 different types of hens, we had to break down to buy some recently too. It nearly killed me, lol. We are starting to get them again from our Buff Orpingtons again, but our Silver laced wyndottes and black stars aren't laying again yet. Looking back, the buffs were the first ones to stop laying and the black stars were the last to stop.
Beautiful video! Thanks for sharing it with us. I can't wait to see your garden this year. I was wondering if you had ever thought of growing perennial tree collards. With the temps you have I am sure they would work for you. Just a thought!
Bri looks beautifully pregnant. Hope you feel better with extra supplements. in the Netherlands we get an awefull supplementel tincture syrope kind of thing... that yesterday awefull...and the taste last for hours yuk. Nausios mama and pregnant I could not keep it down so I got pils (take extra oil for digestion reasons later 😉) ... I ate spinach and lot lot lot of leafy green Salade wich its funny I didn't care for before pregnant. And i craved orange juice soo bad i drank gallons of it... apparently your body craves what it needs and lacks it's amazing how that works. so eat all the kale in the world it's what you need right now. I wish you all the best of health love luck and happiness Kind regards rose
Try Big Horse Creek Farm for your apple trees. They are located in Lansing, NC. They have many heritage type apples from the area, are grown organic and prices are very reasonable.
I hope that all these new things from your old videos come to you in the current a way to preserve eggs for when your chickens go dry during the winter is by glassing the eggs do a little research into that and you'll have eggs all year round
We are down the mountain from y'all. We've been getting little to no eggs as well, Until last week. They've started laying again!! Started with about 3 or 4, then yesterday I collected 10!! Hoping it's the same for you guys soon!!
I always get super anemic too. Just had a baby yesterday and hoping we can keep up with all the work our garden, orchard and property requires too. We have a much smaller property than you guys, and no livestock yet, but we do grow most our own produce, and homeschool- that’s a ton of work. I bet you can do it! You seem to do very well balancing things so far! If you can tolerate liver, it’s supposed to be great to eat period, but especially for anemia. Saw you were cooking in cast iron too- another great choice. Sorry Bri has to deal with that as well but sounds like she’s doing great taking care of herself and the babe, and has a lot of support and encouragement from those around. Good luck!!! ❤️😇❤️
Oh btw- my FAVORITE seed company is HighMowingSeeds. They have always had the best germination, very clear and concise catalogues, great customer service whenever I had questions or problems, and help you know what plants would do best in your area.
yeah! a whole video! sorry your Anemic Bri, hope you feel better soon Britons talking more and more I got a real tickle how he put his food on the fork and then ate it. thanks for sharing. can't wait to see Graces ducks!
a few years ago my hematocrit went to 34 which is unusual for a man. One can only donate plasma if your hematocrit is between 36 and 54. People gave me all sorts of advice on how to fix the problem including leafy greens iron pills and eating peanut butter. Iron pills made me nauseous and constipated. After doing my own research I started eating beef. Any kind of beef. My hematocrit was fixed within a couple of days and gradually increased to 42 within a few days. If you're going to eat liver only eat calves liver because older steers liver has filtered way too many toxins. My beautiful Baker Creek Seed Catalog finally arrived. Thank you for the tip on Southern Exposure Seed Exchange and Fedco. I will be getting those catalogs shortly.
My 18 month old is learning to handle our chickens' eggs (she insist since the other children collect the eggs). We have lost a few 😜. Thanks for the reupload!
Art&Bri, I raised chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and quail and sold their eggs for several years in Southern Colorado. Here is what I learned about winter egg production. Hens one year or older go into a molt in the fall. It takes all their energy to produce their new winter feathers so they don't lay during molt. Molt can last 2-3 months and then it is winter. Few Chicken breeds will start up again before spring. On the other hand, chicks I got in the spring would start laying by December and lay through the winter. Most of my ducks would stop during the winter except for the Runner Ducks. They seemed to stop later and start earlier. You have milder winters than we do so things may be different but I'd day that once hour pullets start laying they should keep laying until they go into molt in the fall. If you plan to integrate the pullets into the established flock be careful. Chickens can be brutal. I've seen established flocks starve newcomers even when there was plenty of food.
From the Baker creek catalog- I highly recommend the Gete-Okosomin squash. It's sometimes called the 800-1,000 year old squash... long story made short the seeds were found in an archeological dig. I received mine from the White River Native Tribe because I worked for a Tribe in the Pacific Northwest for several years. They taste amazing. I would be happy to send you some seeds if you wish... :) They produce a huge number of seeds per squash... I had several this year grow and only have one left they are so good (Rosie)
R Carpenter-Reed Hi, I know this is random and intrusive on your offer but can't hurt to ask. I live in Alaska and have been gardening my whole life, this year I am looking to try some different squash up here(in part due to watching Art and Bri, thanks for the inspiration!) to see if I can get good results. I'm very interested in heirloom plants and am intrigued that you received these seeds from a native tribe. I was curious if you might share a seed or two with me? It looks like you said they are also available by catalog? I haven't been able to find much local information on preferred squash types for our weather and I don't know anyone that's grown winter squash but I have a greenhouse and want to experiment. If not, I totally understand, I am a random stranger but I appreciate the info and will look for that catalog.
Art, As far as ducks go my favorites were the Welsh Harlequin and the Runner duck. I liked the Welsh Harlequin because they are beautiful, good layers, will hatch their eggs if allowed, are duel purpose birds and you can tell male from female at hatching. I liked the Runners because they are great layers, they are a light breed (good in the garden, won't squish your plants while eating bugs,, ) they eat less, don't care to swim but enjoy playing in water on a hot day, and are said to be a non setting breed although I've had a few set. And they are just fun to watch as they run upright instead of waddle like other ducks. Have fun choosing. I forgot on my chicken post to list my favorites. Wyndotts, Buckeyes and Americaunas were my top 3 favorites. I loved the eggs and roosters of the copper Marans but got tired of treating frostbite on their combs in the winter. I can't start up chickens again until we move but I still like to look at the catalogs.
Thanks for the reupload; I was confused with what was going on! I Love greens, We live in North Ga. Being a southerner we had greens growing up and always with corn bread! When is the baby due, Bri is beautiful pregnant?
I've always struggled with low iron...sometimes I have to eat more rare beef & I stuff raw organic spinach as snacks o.- I notice I'm better if I'm also eating a variety of nuts & seeds too. If you are going to have your greens try to eat them raw or just wilted. Kale is a tough veg, but if you massage it in virgin olive oil & vinegar it will be more palatable raw too. Eggs...yea you gotta go buy some cause they are a perfect source...if you come up to Ohio I'll give them for free lol
Raisins and orange juice. I was so anemic with my 3rd child that the doctor wanted to give me a blood transfusion. The iron pills made me nauseous so i wouldn't take them. With my fourth child I ate a small box of raisins and a small orange juice every day. I wasn't even borderline anemic and I felt great. I worked at a convenience store, on my feet all day and I had Destiny on my day off..
The size of your pullet's egg is the regular size of our chicken's eggs in the grocery store here in the Philippines😂. Simple and Nice video, thanks for uploading art and bri!
Recipe please😝😋😋😋😜 I have iron deficiency all the time I don’t know what’s the problem is and I love spinach and kale and would love to make that dish to see how good it is. Made me so hungry🐮🐮🐮🐮🥦🌿🍴🍽🍴🍴🍴
It's lovely to see you all eating around the table. Planning your garden, love to see it this comming up season. Thanks for reuploading this video.

Fedco is still going strong.
Jim, I completely agree with you - what a sweet family they are! They have one of the most beautiful places on youtube
Seeing all those catalogues gets me excited for what could be!! Yesterday I bought my own homestead in Victoria Australia. Watching your video today has got me thinking of the abundance that the future holds. Thanks for letting me share your lives and inspiring me to act!
Explained like a seasoned nurse. Nice job Art!!
Mmmm that looks sooo good. I love using leftovers to make new meals. Im glad Im not the only one with all kinds of seed and chick catalogs

jksatte it's not bitter at all so I'm guessing no tannin problems.

Silverlace weindots that I raised for years will lay up to four eggs a week in winter. Merry MacMerry Hatcheries.
Thanks for the re-upload, you guys are amazing!!
Yum! I've craved sauteed kale on yellow potatoes.
Murray McMurray Hatchery from good ole Webster City, Iowa!! That kale dish looked delicious!!
You could dry kale then put it in the magic bullet etc. and then use the powder to put in the meat for extra nutrition
*GOOD MORNING FAMILY PARABÉNS MAMA*
glad everyone is eating out of one pan and that pan is clean and all are happy, I think you need to get all your friends around for a party and get hem working on the cans in the basement, getting the garden going it could be a pre-baby shower/ sort the homestead out for the new baby, that way you have an all-day work party come party, like a barn raising!!!!
that's a wonderful idea!! wish I lived close enough to go to a baby shower like that!
Yeah it sounds great!!
I recently watched vlog that shows how to store eggs over the winter - in a mixture of 'lime' and water - (check the type of lime!!) Tests showed that after 8 months + eggs were 1 day fresh

Good video. Thanks for sharing.
We got 4 dozen pullet eggs this week👍🏻😊
Supper looked wonderful!!!
I had Cayuga ducks and they are wonderful ducks to have.
lol, dropped egg. But you have to let the kids learn somehow. My kids are always wrecking things in the garden, but every time they learn more, and get closer to being able to do all the work for me, lol

Thanks for re-uploading.
This winter, we have had our severest egg drop off yet. But as of last week, the egg numbers have slowly started to rise. Hope your chickens follow suit. 😀
Yea, it takes hours with our internet. But glad to have the right version up. For posterity. :-)
Yes that means they are starting to lay 😊
What a great video. We just finished our first chicken coop with a run. I've been building the garden soil up since last year and next month I will start planting! Come on Spring time! Lots of love and prayers for a safe and healthy birth.
Yep I used to hear up spaghetti etc in cast iron just for that reason.
That's better! I thought you got flagged by you tube for a minute. I had 5 kids and I went through the same thing Bri is. But she looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing!

I wish I had my own farm

Bri looks beautifully pregnant. Hope you feel better with extra supplements. in the Netherlands we get an awefull supplementel tincture syrope kind of thing... that yesterday awefull...and the taste last for hours yuk. Nausios mama and pregnant I could not keep it down so I got pils (take extra oil for digestion reasons later 😉)

I wish you all the best of health love luck and happiness

Wonderful EGG ou ovo comida Parabéns
Ours layed that small egg after their heavy molt this last winter.
I thought chickens quit laying eggs in the winter...... Love your stories and videos.
God bless!
Try Big Horse Creek Farm for your apple trees. They are located in Lansing, NC. They have many heritage type apples from the area, are grown organic and prices are very reasonable.
Thanks. I've looked through their list a few times.
I want that eight months pregnant one with just this art and brie
I hope that all these new things from your old videos come to you in the current a way to preserve eggs for when your chickens go dry during the winter is by glassing the eggs do a little research into that and you'll have eggs all year round
God bless you all Jesus loves you all of you.
Bri raisins has lots of iron. My mother use to get us the small boxes when we were kids to boost our iron.
Clams are very high in iron. I crave clam chowder when I need iron. Clam chowder and spinach salad with sesame or pumpkin seeds. Yum!
Nice bump Bri!
Ha ha ha... I had to laugh when I saw the writing on your hand! Are those vital signs? I do the same thing!!!
No, just notes.
Bri looks beautiful pg, I love kale,
Cool video. Loved it.

I make something very similar to your kale and beef fry with tofu. Even meatheads always seem to love it. ;-)
PS...Did you figure out what happened to your first upload?
Not exactly but it was an issue with exporting from premier pro. Still confusing, but I figured out how to fix it.

I craved boneless sardines and mother goose liver wurst. Doctor said we crave what we need and I was very anemic during pregnancy.
Art , Bri
Wound you ever eat the greens from dandylion ????
You can eat hole wild plant they are great tasting too..

I think pumpkin seeds also have iron, so that might be a good extra snack
Bri you look great. I wanted fried rice all the time when I was prego.
❤️
Art try to get a catalog from new hope seed co. Rare seeds and generation after generation from their seed vault.
They don't offer a paper catalog it looks like it. I did look at their website.
The size of your pullet's egg is the regular size of our chicken's eggs in the grocery store here in the Philippines😂. Simple and Nice video, thanks for uploading art and bri!
Cook some liver and have it. Mediterranean recipe is very good. Good for iron deficiency.
My beautiful ladies stopped laying almost completely over winter and I had to buy eggs, too! 😞
Hello! Are kids a hobby? Well.....they're fun! Does that count? :))
I'm hlad to see you're still there (I first came at a screen saying you're 'off line'... )
You should know that they either slow down or stop when colder weather hits. Hopefully soon they'll start laying again soon for you.
Thanks for reuploading. Isn't it really late in NC?
The video uploads and posts while I sleep.
