‼️‼️‼️SPOILER ALERT‼️‼️‼️ I'm straight female and loved this movie. At one point, I found myself getting sucked into the pink opaque. Owen finally breaking down at his dead-end job, only for it to fall on deaf ears was haunting. Also, when Maddy returned to their old town and tried to get Owen to remember that they are indeed Tara and Isabel. However, Owen completely rejects Maddy's version of the pink opaque and how she became reborn as the person she always wanted to be. Owen even keeps calling Maddie, Maddie, after she told him repeatedly not to. It was just a heart breaking thing to watch, to see him completely in denial, having died a spiritual and mental death and still buried within. I believe anyone can apply this message to themselves, trans or not. It's about self discovery and opening up to world that can be judgmental and harsh. Same. As a trans person whose experience doesn't match up with the popular transgender narrative, I found it deeply relatable. And that's really refreshing.
I’m feeling like even outside of the queer allegory of the movie, it holds a lot of weight with the message of just feeling like your life is passed you by, that whatever you could have been is buried deep in you and it’s suffocating to even think about the idea you’re not going to ever obtain those ideals, dreams and self you could have been.
The entire movie is an allegory for being trans or queer! It was made for a niche audience of that community to see themselves and emotions represented in it. The story isn’t handed to you in this film and can usually only be picked out by those who relate to it! It isn’t made for everyone and that’s ok! It does frustrate it me to see cishet people talking about how there was a lack of story in this film as the meaning and story in reality was so full but that wasn’t picked up by for some! This movie is made for the lgbtqia2s+ community and for us to relate to it! :)
As a 44 yo cishet person, I must say it took me a minute to really grasp what the movie was trying to say. You're supposed to take the plot of The Pink Opaque literally imo and I think people were too obsessed with the fact that it's a high brow A24 film to actually stay grounded in the plot.
And yet y'all wanted and need my money to keep making these things
@@oakland7561this person gave a completely logical explanation on how someone who isn’t trans can relate and you respond with ya but it’s still not for you or about you 😂 Jfc get over yourself. You must be a special type of narcissist to gate keep something as nuance as an emotion or an impact that a film can have on someone

This is how I’m worried I’ll feel after watching it :/. It looks more style over substance but I still need some substance lol
its literally all substance. every single line of dialogue can be extrapolated. A very pressing commentary on identity and the suppression of your true self in a situation where one might be afraid to accept themselves
If you have any understanding of queer experiences, this movie is extremely dense with meaning. Just all of it.
it's all substance. it's specifically trans horror--the horror of not being able to live as your true self
Very niche
The movie was so bad, so bad. I pissed it was even recommended to me. Supposed to be a suspense horror. The only horror was that I didn’t turn it off as soon as I realized it was pure garbage.
This is exactly what I took away from the trailer.
I think if you aren’t queer then yeah you won’t get it. If you don’t understand what it means to feel so wrong in a body in a way you can’t comprehend, while everyone judges you your entire childhood, and you feel so immensely alone and disgusting, then yeah it won’t make sense lol.
It’s amazing I don’t understand how people don’t enjoy kt
i liked the story, i did not understand even slightly the symbolism.
I would say the movie isn't for everyone. However I just finished watching it for the first time and I loved the whole story. It plays on horror in a different way because it's a truly horrific thing trans people deal with daily. Please anyone reading this remember, THERE'S STILL TIME❤
It’s not for everything. I feel like I need to see it again
Waste of time. Must miss
This is the type of "art" that gets actual art shit talked about 🙄
Yeah I was waiting for the movie to get exciting or good, and then the credits came. I was picking up some of the messages, metaphorical undertones, loved the era, ann things late 80’, through the 90’s is great. I found the Pink Opaque hilariously bad and wish the whole movie wasn’t revolved around it. Basically was an interesting start, had me excited, but as time went by, I found myself slowly dying and knew I would eventually if I didn’t get out of there soon lol
It was just too gay for him. The movie was so gay his psyche just rejected it.
@ss
This was just weird and not a fun watch. And the worst part was that the show they were obsessed with didn't even look good 💀
Thats the whole point, the show is supposed to look bad because it came out in 1996.
Yeah, you definitely missed the point but that's ok.
I fucking loved it and can’t wait to watch it again in the fall. Beautiful movie. Dreadfully horrifying. Would love a sequel.
Cis person jumpscare
Its trash.
Do you think that the PG13 rating was a reason of a meh story? For a PG13, it's an interesting horror film but they could've done more with a R rating I feel like and I was expecting a movie about dream warriors and it really wasn't.
Genre: Stranger Things 😅
Agreed. I feel the same exact way.
Amazing experience
A movie not for me….finally watched this on MAX….yikes
Same , eeehhhh
It suckkedddd
2.5/5
Surprise
I walked out of this movie it's was really really.. boring
Movie sucked
There wasn't any nuance, movie was ass cheeks.
Movie was too boring and slow💯
Awful movie. I swear worse than even B movies
More woke shite
um... your pfp?
I'm not into the film festivals l just wanted to do something with my 15 year old daughter and read the summary. It was bad. Yes actors were great but the story . Naw
Thanks for sharing
Garbage. It was so bad.
I saw it, is it about ...autism?? or ...something mental?, no idea what all meant, looks like you can make up whatever meaning and fit just fine. 🤷♂️😅
its about being trans
I do believe that the two main characters are portrayed as being autistic, but the main context of the film is the trans experience (multiple different trans experiences)
@@goose2888 I didn't get that at all lmao. Maybe a bit socially awkward, but that's not the same think as being autistic.
@@靉靆-l8i everyone's gonna see it differently depending on our own experiences. I'm autistic and it's what I picked up on
This movie sucked!
Did you walk out? 😂
Nope watched the whole thing and wasted my time…
This movie was fucking stupid. A24 has just become pretentious
it's always done weird indie films and has always been called "pretentious" by some
It’s a great film, sorry the plot wasn’t just directly explained to you. Had to think for yourself ?
@@mikehampson4725 there's no plot, it's just symbolism and 80s neon aesthetic
@@hellrose18 there definitely is a plot, but because it wasn’t directly told to you, you don’t understand it.
Found the guy with a lack of media literacy
So this movie is for the pronoun crowd. Great. Its not like Disney and many other studios are not also pumping out the woke sludge for people to ignore at the theater. At this rate the theaters are gonna go broke. Oh well, Thx for the heads up.
please grow up
It was just bad
Heavy disagree, the production was phenomenal
What was bad, I’m thinking of giving a watch so I’d rather know beforehand
@@aluardghirmai5010its very divisive. i think depending on your own life experience, it would definitely hit. there’s some scenes here that feel very lynchian horror and can be a little upsetting, but it’s also very visceral. the technical side of the movie is very fantastic though with the music and cinematography.
@@aluardghirmai5010 the film is boring it consistently feels like nothing is happening and the end is terrible
Knock off Poltergeist¿
The movie has absolutely no resemblance to poltergeist aside from the poster lmao
@@copyglowand the name
Genuinely no similarities whatsoever
