  • This video is how I replaced the front wheels of a Step2 Model 7665 Wagon. I decided to replace both fronts at approximately the same cost to buy the kit from Step2 to replace all four wheels. The wheels and bushings I used were much higher quality then the original wheels. If you decide to replace only 1 broken wheel it can be done for around 20 dollars using the same parts I used, if you want to do it cheap you could probably do it for around 12 dollars; using plastic spacers and cheaper lawnmower wheels. I did not want to use harbor freight wheels as their quality does not meet my needs.

    How did you get the wheel off?! I am really struggling to find a way to take the wheel off

      You can either pry the cap off, it’s pretty difficult or cut it off. If you pry it off you will usually ruin the cap and that’s why I just cut it off. I used the angle grinder to cut it but a dremel would also work.

      I’m assuming the end cap, black, is still on and holding the wheel onto the axel

      This is so helpful. I didn't even know bushings existed and now I know I have options. Thanks!

    How you’d put the push nut in? Did you just push it in there like butter or did you have to shove it in with like a tool or something?

      @@jeremiahalvarez1500 I'm glad that worked out...usually you either push them hard or give them a light tap with a hammer...if you hit too hard the plastic will break...

    My wheels do not turn very smoothly. Should I replace the axle or just clean it?

    • @jamesbubnick
      @jamesbubnick  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would just clean them and lubricate. you probably don't even need to clean unless they have a ton of caked in mud. I'd just spray with WD-40 and spin the wheel...it should free up rather quickly.

    How did you cut the axle?

    • @jamesbubnick
      @jamesbubnick  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used a 4 inch angle grinder with a cut off wheel, you could also use a Dremel or a hacksaw.

      @@jamesbubnick also do you have to secure the bushings or does the push nut keep it secure? (After cutting down the axle) like what makes it not move inside the “hub” of the wheel

    what's the size of the push nut?

    • @jamesbubnick
      @jamesbubnick  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it was 3/8 inch but measure the axle to put the correct one. It's the diameter of the axle for the push nut.
