does anyone knows something about a band called ANNA which had a song/video called Anna too?? I ask here because it sounded a bit like Gene and from those years, it was a very nice song. cheers.... This is my favorite Gene song by the way....
Oh god, I remember this very well, I used to adore this band! Thanks for sharing this. I don't suppose you also have the version of 'Say Hello Wave Goodbye' that Gene did with Marc Almond on the same show? I remember that being so incredible. Bah, I wish that I hadn't got rid of my vhs with that on!
Reading the comments I see some Smiths comparisons, and indeed Martin Rossiter had a very Morrissey-like voice, and during this first album they sounded almost like Morrissey's solo stuff, but by the time I saw them live in 97, their guitarist had gotten a lot bluesier with his guitar solos, so it's unfair to put them in that copy-cat category... Anyway, thanks to the poster for this video!
Stop saying everything was UNDERRATED!!! Just cause it wasn’t fuckin Oasis. Gene were massively rated. Ask any guitarist about Steve Mason or anything from first albums. If your playing and selling records and have respect...guess what. Someone rates you. Christ!!!!
You mean, like, it was a nostalgic nod to the Smiths already in 1995? Harsh. These guys were pretty good in their day. The kiddies wouldn't even hear the music without the ridiculous pop-rock image that is required now. See: Emo.
Gene are brilliant! So underrated it hurts!!!!
The BEST band ever ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
love this tune, they used to have the studio version on youtube but no more..
I remember this too - and also had it on VHS. I love Gene - they always were an underrated band. Thanks for sharing!

steve mason is SILKY smooth on that guitar. sounds a lot like early knopfler circa dire straits/communique era.
