They are also great dehydrated
Dried c2.5kg down to c560gms yesterday, with another kilo or so over ripe (coulis?) And a handful under ripe to eat fresh when they are ready
YUM!😋
I sadly will have to do with store bought. I just ordered my drier. Do u also dry your tomatoes?
I don’t have a dehydrator but as I can only store so much tomato sauce due limited freezer space I do dry a good number, thyme leaves and slivers of garlic go onto prepared tomatoes together with cracked black pepper, a small amount of salt and a tiny drop of balsamic vinegar to finish. Placed on oiled baking sheets I then put them in the oven at 160c for 2 to 3 hours until they are dehydrated. I open the oven door every 20 minutes of so to let steam escape and to check progress. Frozen between sheets of baking parchment, I then just snip a handful into sauces and stews to add an in-depth tomato flavour. Well worth the effort in my view, especially as storage requires so little space.
I have a young apricot tree first-year producing apricots how do I prune my tree in the winter. Apricots are my favorite and I love my tree just need to learn more about
It's best to prune apricots in the spring or summer. More details here: www.rhs.org.uk/fruit/apricots/grow-your-own
Hi Ben, which apricot variety are you growing please?
Hi Christine. I've no idea as the tree was here when we moved in a few years ago. I'm so impressed with it though, as I'm not in the sunniest part of the world, but I guess it's loved the warm summer we've been having here.
What's the name of your dehydrator please
The dehydrator I use in an Excalibur. A bit pricey but really, really solid and well made and a joy to use.
What is there shelf life?
They should be good for at least a couple of months if kept in a dry, dark place.
Gyat 💀
I blended my apricots to make a purée, added a little nutmeg, then dried the purée in thin sheets of fruit strips. Delicious! My kids ate through the supply pretty fast. Better tasting and also healthier than the store-bought and sugar-filled fruit snacks.
That sounds like an awesome snack - yummy!
Awesome
Sounds like fruit leather
