    I started with HW's about 6 years ago. Since that time I've recently stopped collecting all HW's except RLC, for many reasons. As I get older, I want nicer things. I like to find all the different details. So I'm pretty much looking at resin models at this point. As far as them not rolling or not opening......I don't play with them. I just look. So for me, resin is the way to go. For diecast I like minigt and Tarmac.

    I like how you arranged the certificates behind each model.
    Regarding the resin vs diecast topic, for me personally it doesn't really mater if the overall quality of the model is good. Diecast models usually have more weight and give you the impression of a more solid product, but the details from a resin model are outstanding ...
    At the end of the day, for me the better investment is the model car that you love and can afford :)

      Thanks, yes they both have pros and cons I tend to lean more for diecast models but your absolutely right collect what you love and can afford 👍

    so far on my watch list for potential 1/18 that i can afford (mostly autoarts):
    AA Lotus exige S (composite)
    AA Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3 (composite)
    AA Lambo Gallardo GT3 (composite)
    AA Lambo huracan super trofeo or gt3 (composites)
    AA Aston Martin V12 Vantage (diecast)
    HWE Ferrari 458 Speciale or GT2 (diecasts)
    All of these are on ebay for around 100-130.
    So far where i'm torn at is depending on which one i get i'll either have great exterior details like fully detailed wheels and brakes (AA) as opposed to the solid pieces from HWE 458 GT2. The flip side being that the HWE has a lot of details on the engine and other compartments. if it had moving brake rotors then it would be a no brainer for me but i'm kind of particular on the models i choose to spend a lot for. I just wish the Mclarens and Pagani's weren't so drastically expensive but i just cant justify paying those kinds of premiums for them.
    Maybe i shouldnt be so picky......

    • @CarsWithHNK
      @CarsWithHNK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the premiums are ridiculous on some models and they are not even worth the money some collectors are listing them for on eBay like the Pagani Zonda s , F1s and McLaren s from AUTOart especially, that’s a good list of models I like the hwe models also and they are getting rarer now 👍

    Great video. The last models i bought were like 20 years ago which are stored away in my loft, but recently I felt the urge to start a new little collection for a shelve. It's hard to know where to start though. I really wanted to go Autoart as I love models that open and they lean more towards my McLaren, Aston Martin and Lamborghinis tastes. With their move towards composite im really not sure their models will keep their value. Diecast models from Autoart are going for a premium on ebay which im reluctant to bite the bullet on 🤔

    • @CarsWithHNK
      @CarsWithHNK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi yes seems like a bit of a catch 22 situation I agree with you I think that the autoart composite models will drop off quite a bit because they are so expensive new and on the other side the more desirable diecast models are listed for a big premium. I would rather have 1 or 2 diecast premium models from autoart than more composite models, quality over quantity for me, please subscribe for more videos to come 👍

    If you buy model cars just to make money, well man, you have not a real passion for cars and this is really sad. I really dislike videos and people that have this mindset. If you buy a model car it's because you like THAT CAR and you are happy to have a little scale model in your collection, not because you're just thinking how the value can increase or not in time. Of course is my opinion and you can do what you want with your stuff but still a sad thing to me.

    The huge problem IMO often overlooked when resin is compared to diecast - thin plastic film used to replicate windows. I know a collector who is now selling his entire set of MR resin models and each one has issues with windows. They either "waved" or simply peeled off. As he explained - it is a well known issue due to film is so thin it cannot hold form or is deformed by glue. But due to overall high end appearance of resin models - windows issue is overlooked (he also mentined that MR replaced windshield with a thicker clear plastic on Aventador models but side windows are still suffering from the same old issue). How is it even accepted by the car model enthusiasts community? For the money these models cost - such issue should not exist. More so - should not persist for years.

    Great view of the market. Otherwise, I'm not even leaning on premium values, I buy what I like and want to keep. I'm waiting for occasions toward the models I like (mainly locally), then often make sure that if I *ever sell or leg the thing, the purchase price is way under a premium, so that I don't have to ask for a premium if I'm in trouble reselling it. Usually, people who only want to make profit from the hobby don't have much of my attention. Plus I feel repairing premium cars does more for the hobby than anything... I can't stand those videos where they burn diecasts... they should at least try something with them...

    i wish i could just borrow a composite model so i can understand how they feel. i wouldnt mind plastic as long as it doesnt feel like it would break from handling the opening parts too much. All the better diecast autoarts are either way to pricey or the bottom of the barrel of desirable brands and whatnot like the lotus europa or pt cruiser. there's still a few in the 110-130 range that are diecast but it doesnt seem like they represent autoart's best efforts when it comes to overall details.

      Hi Kouki, yes I have one AUTOart composite model the Porsche 918 and it’s not a bad model and definitely doesn’t feel like it would break when you start opening up all the compartments, it does feel plasticity and the weight of the model is a lot lighter than the diecast models but overall they are solid, good and nice models but they are way below some of the older signature models in terms of details and materials used 👍

    Yes resin models come with a high presentation value and the details are stunning. However diecast models are a dying bread which adds to the desirability. That been said one should maintain the paint on the diecast models with care as oxcidation will get a problem as time goes on.

    • @CarsWithHNK
      @CarsWithHNK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Resin models are more presentable and do look more expensive than the diecast counterpart for me I still prefer diecast models and I will always still be collecting them how do you maintain the paint on the diecast model when you mention oxidisation? Thanks

    • @danielharry1075
      @danielharry1075 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CarsWithHNK paint oxcidation takes place over years due to UV light (almost all light sources like direct and indirect sunlight, globes ect), oxygen and heat (doesn't have to be extreme either). In other words it's nearly impossible to stop this but we can slow this process down by waxing and polishing our models every other year (or when needed). Good quality car products work brilliantly. Resin models are less likely to show paint oxcidation (tend to happen slower on these models) but it's nevertheless a good idea to give them a good waxing every other year. I collect since 1993 so have a pretty good understanding of what you can expect. Different colours, different makes react differently over time. AutoArt's paint is from the less likely models to show paint oxcidation (rash and micro bubbling) but the same can't be said for Kyosho and Hotwheels Elite. Hope my advice helps.

    I used to lean towards diecast but after I was introduced to a resin model from Otto, it isn't too bad and price is affordable. One thing that got me worried was when my buddy's Autoart Nissan Fairlady S30 from Midnight Wangan, had zinc rot. Apparently when it happens to one, it means that this batch of production for this model, are prone to zinc rot. The paint will have bubble popped out of nowhere. That's my only worry about diecast.
