Acireale (Italian: [ˌatʃireˈaːle]; Sicilian: Jaciriali, abbreviated locally in Jaci or Aci) is a coastal city and a municipality in the north-east of the metropolitan city of Catania, in Sicily, in southern Italy, at the foot of Etna, on the coast facing the Ionian Sea. It houses numerous churches, including the neo-Gothic basilica of San Pietro, the Sicilian Baroque basilica of San Sebastiano, the 17th-century cathedral of Acireale and a seminar for the training of priests. Acireale is also known for its art and paintings: here is the oldest Sicilian academy, the Accademia dei Dafnici e degli Zelanti.
