Thanks for the video! For my money, the biggest selling point of 17, like 30, is no contests (AKA man-made band closures). Taken together, they offer 24 -hour access to ham radio, with nobody bullying you off. And they're both great for QRP, what with great propagation characteristics and the generally favourable attitudes of those who live there. I've been a 10mhz guy for 30 years; only just added 18, and am finding it just as valuable. Being 100% QRP now, I spend most of my key time on these two. I've also noticed that 17m is getting a lot more attention and becoming more popular, thanks to 20m-like DX and those short little antennas, which make for great portable possibilities.

If I may butt in? I enjoy 17 meters along with 30 meters because of no contests. Contesting has gotten out of hand, and also digital, the digital people have gotten where they use way to much power splattering there signal.
I enjoy CW/QRP that is now the only mode and pwr I opperate, as the gentalman said 20 meters is a nightmair on the weekends, contest, contest, contests. Sorry I had to get this off my chest, hope to make a CW contest with you sometime on 17 meters 72' de N7KO

Got on 17 meters today for the first time and made a few contacts calling CQ, nice quiet band after coming off of 20 meters.

17 rocks! I made the best DX contact ever on 17, I worked Mirny station in Antartica using a homebrew Bitx17 putting out 7 watts and a homebrew 17 meter EFHW antenna. 12,000 miles from my QTH!

I agree, 17m is a fantasic band. 2 or 3 days ago I used my KX2 (walkie talkie style) with the MFJ-1817T whip and about 10ft of aligator clip/test leads and made a contact in Japan. How cool is that? Been a Ham since 1974 and still get a big adrenaline rush making contacts like that, especially QRP.........on a 4 foot whip antenna!!! Keep up the good work/videos. Tim K5DEZ

I like the comment in the intro about having to shave, then seeing the targeted advertisment around 2 minutes.

Now that you have learnd Morse, I bet 17 meters is your favorite band, unless you dig contests Been 5 years since you made this video.
