    I've been wanting to share this since April. And now I can! The new Raspberry Pi 5 is here! And I'm impressed!! Massive upgrade in performance in my tests.
    Note: I was not paid by the Raspberry Pi Foundation or anyone else to create this video. Eben did kindly organize that I get a Raspberry Pi 5 for free to test and review.

    I just can’t get excited about a product I will not be able to buy.
    “We’d like to thank you: we’re going to ringfence all of the Raspberry Pi 5s we sell until at least the end of the year for single-unit sales to individuals, so you get the first bite of the cherry.”
    This is an empty gesture as the first year is for validation, R&D and waiting for revisions to pan out anyway. Volume orders are not happening here.
    When are the hobbyist and educational sectors going to get a true commitment from the rpi foundation again? I mean a real commitment that will see retail standalone boards in stock without purchasing restrictions.
    Also, calling them out on this on their blog just causes them to delete your comments. They truly don't care anymore.

    For me, the key is easy running of an OS and a community to help software run on it. I intend to use this to drive microscope hardware. Too many of the control of scientific kit requires a power hungry windows machine (which I also have). Multiply this with the number of machines in a building and it is a lot of power. Switching to the Pi would mean each running on 6w which is a greener way.

  • @2kBofFun
    @2kBofFun ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't like this plays the wanne-be-fast game. If we needed one thing, it would be a completely passive cooled 10nm low GHz version, with added M2 storage. Like quad core 1.5 GHz with a 10nm chip running less than 5W on full power. To do things like 4K playback and gaming, grab a much more powerfull and cheaper yesteryears AMD based system that uses less power on load.

    I'd like to see if the very latest Godot and Blender work on a raspberry pi 5. Godot 4 fails and so does Blender 3 on a raspberry pi 4 because of the Open GL version is not high enough. I'd dont want to render much just have a low power consumption machine to develop on.

    Pi, fan, case, etc...
    My 4 in a nes settop box is doing well as a streaming media player, old game player and everything... ill probably wait for the 6 or something... as I'm not using it as a desktop PC, and even then the 4 8gb still holds it's own quite well
    Happy to see an update, though wish they'd have dropped more hints it was coming out, as I would maybe have set cash aside.. as $100+ for a full setup is just a bit much for a hobby box...
    Not that I don't appreciate iteration and such, as it's a better investment than the newest (fruit phone) model 1x that just has USB c now

If you can get a $100 13th Gen i3 CPU (you can... easily), something requiring more skill to fab than ANYTHING in ANY SBC, someone is faking scarcity for profits. "..this video is not sponsered by Raspberry Pi, they did however send me this Raspberry Pi, a keyboard..." How could we trust the rest of the content if such a clear contradiction is being made here? RPi literally contributed to this video. RPi sending you stuff to make a video isn't the issue here. The issue is your claim about not being sponsored by RPi. Being sent gear to review counts as sponsorship. Sponsorship carries weight with it.

    • @MarcusGarfunkel
      @MarcusGarfunkel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the device is not available to the general public yet, so the only way to review it is to receive the device from the manufacturer. If raspberry pi compensated David for his time to produce the video, that would be considered a sponsorship.

    • @aut0turret
      @aut0turret ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarcusGarfunkel The RPi itself is the compensation, unless he's sending it back and shows proof of that.

    • @ClickClack_Bam
      @ClickClack_Bam ปีที่แล้ว

      It's $80 for the basic one.
      So he's received over $100 worth of gear to play with whatever the keyboard etc costs.

      If this was a sponsored video, TH-cam would deffo force David to mark this video as such.

    • @aut0turret
      @aut0turret ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SchoolforHackers Receiving the new RPi iteration and its accessories counts as sponsorship/compensation. It has value, even though some may feel that it is not much value. Depends on who you ask. I come from small money, it would be quite the sting to my budget. With that being said, it still has actual market value regardless of how that value is perceived. There could be be some agreement where the unit is supposed to be returned, but I haven't heard anything about it.

    But can it play TH-cam videos at 1080p without losing frames? No, really. The RPi 4 struggles, for some reason. (Compatibility with browsers...?)

    • @josef188
      @josef188 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will have frame losses at Full-HD and you will not be able to watch 4K videos on TH-cam because that resolution is used by TH-cam and uses VP9 and AV1, which is not compatible with the raspberry hardware.

    Will RPI6 be RISC-V. I guess not cause both ARM and RPI is from UK, so you'll always be paying the ARM license when buying the Pi. And the Hass users will continue loosing their data when the MicroSD cards keep dying, cause no mSata or M2 on board.
