    I'm making my first one right now. I'm using this and other video's as well as reading material to learn. I didn't have lift cups and my friend suggested a small, 9oz Dixie cup cut to fit the bottom of my 3 inch shells. Looks like it will work well. Thanks for your video.

      you can also use a baggie or other small plastic bag and tape it well to the bottom. I've used plastic solo cups cut off for larger shells as well. For the 36" shell that they made at the PGI a couple of years ago I think they used a 5 gallon bucket.

I don't have my damaged firework dealer this year so product is low. I have a ton of end disks cases and tubes . Alot of Harry's sell out stuff to use this year. started but need to get a show this year from my Garage again.
    Bad time of year for accidents and when everyone is. cooking but I will try finding burst and paper on here.

    Im trying to coat some ricehulls and i got a feeling im not doing something right, the question is what, but the bp is slightly sticking to the hulls, an i do have dextrin in the comp an i spray the hull with water an shake it up then dump comp, shake some more. What am i doing wrong. I used a goof but of comp an it barley looks like i used any at all. I used about 100grms

    • @cuhhwetes
      @cuhhwetes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm fairly new to this too but, what I learned is that if you wet the rice hulls to much they start to stick to each other. You can always break them up with your fingers. But maybe try a few sprays of water then shake I usually do it in four layers. So add 25 grams at a time. Also maybe dont add dextrin to the last layer. So 75 grams with dextrin and 25 grams with out. That way when you dry them they won't stick to each other while drying. Hope it helps. A little trial and error is usually what it takes.

    I thought we're not supposed to use potassium chlorate for any kind of bursting or salutes? I thought we were supposed to use potassium perchlorate? And not with charcoal but aluminum? I'm still new to making a really good powerful burst color show shell. So I'm genuinely asking where did you get your information from and is the potassium chlorate and charcoal accepted as an industry-standard burst charge?

    • @Tarheel_Pyro
      @Tarheel_Pyro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      potassium perchlorate and aluminum is used for making flash powder for salutes, bottom shots etc.
      potassium chlorate and charcoal is used for burst charges. (I sometimes add a teaspoon or so for a little extra break in larger shells) You do not want to forcefully blow up your shell you want to break it and ignite the stars or other effects. I would suggest looking at fireworking.com, and
      subscribe. Ned Gorski is one of the best builders in the business and the site has a large amount of articles, how-to's and formulas, as well as a great forum.

    Thanks so much for this post. I was just now trying to get as much info as possible for my 4" shell. Your instructions are easy to follow. What was the amount of layers of the paper tape for the sphere?
    And once you added the lift cup, how much more of the tape did you need?

    • @Tarheel_Pyro
      @Tarheel_Pyro 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually do 5 rounds of both axis so basically 10 layers. A good rule of thumb is 3 x shell size for the circumference. The true circumference is actually multiplied by pi or 3.14. You don’t want it too tight in the tube and you have to take in account the quick match up the side. Nothing additional is needed after the lift cup is attached.

      75% potassium nitrate 15% air float charcoal 10% sulfur. Ball mill all these ingredients together with proper milling media (usually lead 1/2” balls) non sparking. When milling is almost done add 3-4% dextrin and mill an additional 10 mins. With the proper ball mill you should have good powder in 2hrs of milling. Now you must granulate with 75% water and 25% isopropyl alcohol.Add water and alcohol mixture slowly form a ball that Is glistening On the surface(should look like play doe).Now with a twisting motion run black powder ball through what ever size mesh screen you need. After this set in sunlight as quick as possible(fast drying helps make faster black powder). Also Eastern red Cedar Charcoal makes very fast black powder, as also Willow Charcoal does.
