This is maddening. I've been asking my GI doc if stomach acid issues could be a reason to my pain (Gerd/ irregular z-line in the esophagus area from all the acid reflux) and he shrugged it off. Then I asked, while he's doing my upper endoscopy if he could check my stomach acid levels and he said it's not possible. So then I did my own digging and did the low stomach acid test where you drink a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda with some water. Sure enough it took me 30+ minutes to burp, and it should be 3 minutes tops. So I went back and asked what can be done. He said, it will adjust eventually. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ completely dismissing the fact that I have Hashimotos and gallbladder sludge. So I went to my functional medicine doctor who finally told me to buy some Betaine hcl with pepsin. Why are these "GI Doctors" so useless?! He's my fourth GI doctors in less than 3 years and they all just want to push gallbladder removal or PPIs, none of them dig deeper. Ever.

Do you know what caused these deficiency in stomach acid the first place, so you can take care of that?!

I'm convinced this happens because of a malfunctioning thyroid. There's a huge correlation between gut issues & the thyroid.

@@AICB369 I personally thought it was because I was put on PPIs for 9 months. I hurt my stomach by taking ibuprofen for a week due to pulling my back. My back pain was so bad that I completely forgot I'm too sensitive to NSAIDs. It was the perfect storm. Then during this time I had abdominal surgery whilst still not recovered from my severely inflamed stomach and irregular z-line from all the acid going up into my esophagus. Then I started to feel pain in my liver/gallbladder 6 months into taking PPIs and asked my GI if I should be supplementing with enzymes or anything to support digestion. He laughed and said I don't know should you? Knock yourself out!....this was summer time...By winter time I was feeling pain in the back and thought that I had something going on with my kidneys. I took a urine analysis strip test and my bilirubin's were elevated. I still wasn't sure what all this meant. I got in to see my new functional doctor and turned out I had Hashimotos, pancreatic insufficiency, gall bladder sludge(mri), SIBO and all my fat soluble vitamins were deficient. Since then my pancreas is back to normal. I am no longer eating gluten.

@@katush80 sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Betaine HCL is a manmade product for temporary use only, and can make you feel better THEN make a bad situation worse.
Stick to chewing DGL 15 minutes before meals instead 🙏🏿
Also try on an empty stomach, Bhumi amla for gallbladder sludge. It words pretty well

I have been suffering for months with stomach issues. My GI doctor and primary and physician’s ALL dismissed my suggestion of low stomach acid. Their go to is acid reducers and look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them the acid reducers make me feel awful. I tested negative for SIBO. By the way, all three told me I should try an antidepressant!!!!!! 🤦‍♀️🤯

I have all the symptoms of low acid. I also never burp when I do the baking soda test on an empty stomach. Have you checked your thyroid?

Unfortunately, I have done a low fodmap diet as recommended by my nutritionist (was referred by my GI doctor who dianosed me with IBS which I feel is just a blanket term for my digestive issues). Low fodmap made me ridiculously sick. I have Sjogren's Autoimmune disease and also have Fibromyalgia and severe endometriosis. I am also checking in to see if I have Autoimmune Hepatitis and / or PBC (Primary Bilary Cholangitis). I will be going to the doctors office at the beginning of December to get a Sibo breath test done.

@melriini8280 No, I have to pull teeth to get any testing done from my GI doctor. Now that he has seen I have elevations in my liver, he wants to do a liver biopsy on me. I had to push to get him to even get me to do a sibo breath test.

Thanks for discussing this topic. I got sick with this unknown condition during covid, but didn't know it. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with gallstones, got my thyroid checked because I was incredibly fatigued, that came back negative, I ended up losing my job because I could not cope with the normal pace of life being so unwell. I have had chronic fatigue with no diagnosis over the last 5 years.
2 months ago I ended up with jaundice, my crap previous doctor helpfully moved to Sunny Queensland so I found a new one who took me seriously (looking yellow probably helped my case that I was indeed sick) she off the bat ran lots of blood tests including vitimin B12 which had me diagnosed within 2 weeks. The jaundice was due to pernicious anemia I had undetectable B12 levels in my blood and liver. My hb was 78 (should be >120) MCV blood was 125 (should be

Please have your iron (storage iron, iron transporting protein and blood iron levels as well as your D3 checked.) I had b12 deficiency also, due to chronically low ferritin (menstruation) but this can also happen for celiacs. Consider, depending on where you are age wise, to have your sexual hormones checked as well. Low dose progesterone helps with less bleeding, but I suspect my estrogen dominance made me a heavy bleeder. Estrogen can accumulate in the liver. Unfortunately many doctors are clueless, utterly clueless. My ferritin should be at least in the 60-80s and was around 10-20 which made me feel like crap. Like you I had to get treated for exhaustion. 3 Iron infusions this year. And, guess what, lower stomach acids as welll.
You could also check for a generic variant that would result in KPU/HPU, where the body has a higher need for certain nutrients. In my case, I need zinc b6 and b12 as well as the iron to feel normal. Before I thought I had Adhd. No, just deficiencies and doctors who where clueless for 20+ years, unfortunately.
Sorry thats a lot of info but if it helps someone, its worth it. Best of luck to you.

Hi, please have your iron levels all free of them especially ferritin checked. Consider getting yourself tested for a genetic variant where the body is excreting nutrients called KPU/HPU as welll. I was a heavy bleeder and had iron deficiencies B12 deficiencies D3 deficiencies. Once I started my own health journey, I figured all of these things out and my health got a lot better. Also, please consider for some time to go on a low-dose progesterone because it can improve bleeding. There is also a way to detox the Liver From oestrogen With a supplement. Livers can accumulate hormones.

Looking forward to following your channel. Have been suffering from diagnosed gastritis and an undiagnosed gastroparesis for the past 2 yrs. The acid reflux has subsided but the bloating, and abdominal tenderness,pain/discomfort, burping, tiredness has lessened but still very much there. My qtn is I was first put on pantoprazole which helped. Since this lowers stomach acid how can it be that I actually may have low stomach acid?
