A visit to the uninhabited Robert Adam designed Ayrshire neighbour of Culzean by Charlie Luxton. see also www.abandonedscotland.com/blog... [from BBC's Britain's Hidden Heritage series]
In this video they forgot to mention it's location Dailly! Great place where I was brought up we played in this castle through our younger years locally it known as the new castle and the old castle remains a 2 minute walk from the new castle, would love to see this castle brought back to life as it would bring so much to the wonderful village of Dailly 😀
Lived just outside Dailly at old Dailly , as a boy I often thought how I would buy it an do it up lol . I don't stay in Ayrshire an have not for over 20 years an was brilliant to see Dalquharran again.
'Robert Adam' for god's sake, Scotland's most famous architect, isn't that worth an effort ? Put some of that Lottery money into saving a national treasure and it would employ many artisans who need work. I've see a chateau being build from scratch here in France by volonteers and craftsmen and women so it CAN be done ! By the way HOW was an owner 'allowed' to deroof a castle, even in the 60's ? Couldn't he just have sold it on as was ? I KNOW that thousands of grand houses and castles were demolished up until the 70's but it still hurts. In my mothers town a beautiful Adam house was built, then demolished to make way for a gothic castle which then burnt and was again demolished, now it's a housing estate.
What a waste of a beautiful building , when you think of the cost to build it in the first place . Why didn't they sell it to a developer who could have turned it into flats and keep the history of it probably no one interested or just lack of money usual story sad but true. .... Shame
So sad to just let it go like that.
