They also purposely chose the name Activision so that they would come before Atari in alphabetical order. Which a group within Activision would do the exact same thing upon leaving the company and formed Acclaim entertainment.

The thing you forgot to mention when it comes to microtransactions in games like Crash team racing is the fact that the microtransactions were added AFTER release and when all the reviews were done so they could avoid the backlash.

The crash team racing one was particularly egregious since the game initially was released without microtransactions, but they added then after the game had been out and reviews been released.
A positive thing I'd honestly say about Activision is when they brought back the crash franchise they did it it passion and care , which is more can than other developers (Cough Cough Star Wars battlefront Ea)
Then they placed microtransactions in CTR since you HAVE to be online to get coins AND only get a pitiful amount for each race, forcing you to either grind or pay for the items. Also, they lied to everyone about not having microtransactions.

There is a mall I go to, and obviously every mall has an arcade, inside that arcade is a Guitar Hero game that is literally Guitar Hero 3 except for 2 differences. 1. It's $1 to play a song and it's not a dollar to play them all, it's a dollar to play one song at a time, and 2. it has half the songs from the original game, hell I think it even has less then half of the songs. So not only am I paying a dollar to play one song at a time, but I'm paying a dollar to play one song at a time, from a song list that is half or less then half from the original.

Activision firing those two guys who were about to get the rights to Call of Duty so they could keep the rights themselves reminds me of how Disney fired the guy who was about to make a Star Wars: Dark Forces movie and we got Rogue One: A Plagiarism Story instead.

I liked Skylanders, but imo the weakest entry in the series would be Imaginators. Not because of the character creation. I milked that for all I could, but the minute I saw the chest system, I had a hunch about how this would go down. In all fairness, I didn't buy a single chest, and playing the game for about 2-3ish months got me to where most of the good armor pieces had at least 1 stats bordering 100. It really helped me with the luck stat, cause it turns out the higher your luck is, the more you gain from treasure. I actually thought Superchargers was the best in the series, seeing as though it felt like a good end point, and there times where I actually went "Whoa. This is getting real". Of course, there's also the flaws with the Skylanders roster system by itself, and even though I think it would be more beneficial than costly, Activision won't make it so all of the past skylanders are already playable from like this big roster list, and you'd be able to switch on the fly without the need for a toy. This would also work since, for some reason, the past skylanders still work with each new game. I just hope they don't completely run it into the ground with this series.
@@jaketucker2559 I didn't know of the Hyperscan by the time we collected almost all the original Skylanders. Me and sis didn't continue with the series either after the first one, mostly due to Ebay scalpers and just realizing it was a hell of a cash sink. An ok game but you're always going to have issues with this real world+digital gimmick.
Francesco Lombardi personally I think superchargers was the weakest in the franchise. The story was fine but even for a series which is defined by gimmicks the chargers where just much much more gimmicky since unlike the other ones this one was just for some extra racing sections whereas the other ones just added into the core gameplay
18:06 Looking back on this after recent events, Toys For Bob is REALLY FREAKIN' LUCKY to have survived close to 20 years under Acitivision's belt, avoid shut down and going completely independent amidst the onslaught of early '24 industry layoffs. Hats off to them for being the one studio to live and tell the tale. Now if only we could see more instances of this in the future...

20:20 - 20:30 Augh that still hurts Activision pulled that shit with CTR: Nitro Fueled...I have yet to pay a single cent to those damn microtransactions and it makes me glad Beenox (they never wanted the MTX implementation even from pre release interviews so it's all on Activision) the guys who made Nitro Fueled have added quality of life updates to make the microtransactions less desirable being adding the Double Weekend Bonus to all modes now not just Online Races, a new mode that depending on player skill gives more in game currency the better you do (depending on the track of course) and of course the best feature that was patched out fast giving all players Wumpa Coin Awards online even if they get a DNF after the 30 second timer begins to countdown after the 1st place racer finishes the race.

just saying. i would not really take competitive advice from sakurai. the e-sports aspect was by accident and brawl was made specifically to be anti-competitive. it was not until ultimate that smash bros had quality of life features specifically to accommodate competitive play. however, i do agree that the game has to do well before you even consider endorsing the competitive scene
I would say about number 8 and number 3 were both fails but Infinite Warfare was not a bad game the trailer was just a bad first impression. Number 3 unlike Josh said in the video the attack had to do with the story. It was a live report of the Coalesence Disaster which is the basis for the entire story.

Please don't judge it on the MTX. The developers Beenox have done such a good job of getting around Activision forcing MTX in. Its received 6 months of free content updates and will be getting at least several more. Everything can be obtained by just playing the game and they've made the in game currency easier and easier to obtain. Also the option to buy MTX is never promoted and its hidden away in a side menu. Plus all of the unlocks are purely cosmetic, the raw game play relies entirely on ones own skill.
I hate Activision far more than I hate EA. Always have, and don’t really see that changing. The last entry on this list compared to the last entry in “Top Ten EA FAILS” basically sums it up: EA overworked its employees, while Activision did the same, but also broke several laws and lied to their stockholders.
What happens if you turn down a request by EA or Activision to have a merger with your company? I imagine they'll make being independent a living hell.
Fun fact: Back in 2021, Jamie Kennedy had a podcast and he revealed what had happened and why things were the way they were with the E3 Activision 2010: • Jamie claimed he wasn't drunk or on any drugs during the conference. He stated that he was tired. (I doubt that) • The next thing that Jamie stated was that he wasn't the original actor that Activision picked for this. He was a last-minute change since the original actor opted out. The original actor was going to be B. J. Novak (aka Ryan from The Office and Ben Manalowitz from Vengeance). Jamie didn't even know that this was for E3 and it was supposed to be a huge event. It just seems to be extra cash to him. • He did react to the E3 2010 Activision video clips and he realised that some of the 'jokes' he made weren't good. He even knows that it was garbage. It was just a case of him not knowing what he was getting into.
Y'know... I love the remake of CTR. But I will agree, the microtransactions addition felt like a major gutpunch. And to make matters worse, they were not up front about them, sneaking them in after launch.
I'm surprised the number 1 isn't how Activision unintentionally contributed to causing the video game crash of 1983 their success as the first third party game dev spurred on other companies which lead to an oversaturation of the market which was one of the biggest reasons the crash happened
I don't know if this fact will be possibly included on Blizzard's fails, even as an "honorable" mention, but: I remember when Overwatch launched, Blizzard, was actively tracking down and removing rule 34 stuff from Overwatch. I'm not kidding, they actually were tracking down r34 material... This can be considered a fail?
Actually, for several years now, Activision has been patching in microtransactions to a game after it was already released to avoid critical reviews and ESRB ratings until after the game has sold 90% of its lifetime sales. CTR Nitro Fueled is just the one where online pundits like Jim Sterling had finally had enough and publicly called Activision out on it.
As a little bonus fail for Activision when they announced the Spyro Reignited Trilogy they said that all three games would be included on one disk. However when it was release people found that only the first game was on the hard copy plus a few levels in the second and the third. The rest needed to be downloaded in a Day One Patch. Now I have heard that they have started to make hard copies that have all three games on it and Toys For Bob was the company who made the game which given how they handled Spyro in Skylanders I was quite surprised by the care and quality of the Remastered product. Every bit as faithful and loving as the Crash Nsane Trilogy. Still dick move Activision.
Never knew that end credit screen was something I needed in my life. Good video too! That's the whole reason I couldn't get behind the Remastered cause I during the time of when XBOX LIVE was on Xbox 360 I had gotten the DLC and stuff for the Three CoDs, and the prices were decent but then when they jumped the moon on the DLC for the recent games I had to do a hard pass

Okay. Who's here after Activision started actively sabotaging their old CoD games by send C&D letters to clients that allowed people to play the games safely. Mind you, several of the old games have several security issues that make the games unsafe to play on PC, security issues people have been exploiting to kick people out of servers and take private info. But instead of fixing it, or asking these community devs to help do it for the official games, they just take away the only sage way to play games like Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3, Modern Warfare 2, etc...real smooth Activision.

A positive thing I'd honestly say about Activision is when they brought back the crash franchise they did it it passion and care , which is more can than other developers (Cough Cough Star Wars battlefront Ea)
And that they give each game at least 2 (sometimes 3) years of development with rotating developers.
Then they placed microtransactions in CTR since you HAVE to be online to get coins AND only get a pitiful amount for each race, forcing you to either grind or pay for the items. Also, they lied to everyone about not having microtransactions.

Josh said that "Activision will try every sleazy trick in the book to walk away with your money" guess what, they managed to find a way to do just that without you needing to play on a console or handheld system. There is a mall I go to, and obviously every mall has an arcade, inside that arcade is a Guitar Hero game that is literally Guitar Hero 3 except for 2 differences. 1. It's $1 to play a song and it's not a dollar to play them all, it's a dollar to play one song at a time, and 2. it has half the songs from the original game, hell I think it even has less then half of the songs. So not only am I paying a dollar to play one song at a time, but I'm paying a dollar to play one song at a time, from a song list that is half or less then half from the original.
To be fair, that’s an arcade machine. The arcade owners would be taking the money made from that machine.

@@ChrisX_212 honestly, i feel like the situation is more morally grey than people think it is. when blitzchung made his stunt, he effectively forced the blizzard execs to choose a side, and no matter what they chose they would be screwed over. they were stuck in a no win situation, so while it can be considered a fail, i would hardly consider it #1. blizzard were forced into their situation, while the aforementioned companies were motivated by personal gain
I love Nintendo, but they are slowly creeping up there with the companies doing shady and greedy shit. I think their exclusivity is starting to really hurt them as well

I liked Skylanders, but imo the weakest entry in the series would be Imaginators.
Not because of the character creation. I milked that for all I could, but the minute I saw the chest system, I had a hunch about how this would go down.
In all fairness, I didn't buy a single chest, and playing the game for about 2-3ish months got me to where most of the good armor pieces had at least 1 stats bordering 100. It really helped me with the luck stat, cause it turns out the higher your luck is, the more you gain from treasure.
I actually thought Superchargers was the best in the series, seeing as though it felt like a good end point, and there times where I actually went "Whoa. This is getting real".
Of course, there's also the flaws with the Skylanders roster system by itself, and even though I think it would be more beneficial than costly, Activision won't make it so all of the past skylanders are already playable from like this big roster list, and you'd be able to switch on the fly without the need for a toy. This would also work since, for some reason, the past skylanders still work with each new game.
I just hope they don't completely run it into the ground with this series.

@@jaketucker2559 I didn't know of the Hyperscan by the time we collected almost all the original Skylanders. Me and sis didn't continue with the series either after the first one, mostly due to Ebay scalpers and just realizing it was a hell of a cash sink. An ok game but you're always going to have issues with this real world+digital gimmick.
Francesco Lombardi personally I think superchargers was the weakest in the franchise. The story was fine but even for a series which is defined by gimmicks the chargers where just much much more gimmicky since unlike the other ones this one was just for some extra racing sections whereas the other ones just added into the core gameplay

Augh that still hurts Activision pulled that shit with CTR: Nitro Fueled...I have yet to pay a single cent to those damn microtransactions and it makes me glad Beenox (they never wanted the MTX implementation even from pre release interviews so it's all on Activision) the guys who made Nitro Fueled have added quality of life updates to make the microtransactions less desirable being adding the Double Weekend Bonus to all modes now not just Online Races, a new mode that depending on player skill gives more in game currency the better you do (depending on the track of course) and of course the best feature that was patched out fast giving all players Wumpa Coin Awards online even if they get a DNF after the 30 second timer begins to countdown after the 1st place racer finishes the race.

Out of curiosity, when exactly did the Double Weekend Bonus update happen, because it may have been a month ago since I last played CTR, but I genuinely feel at times like that never happens for me in offline modes. I'll need to check to be positive, but still.

just saying. i would not really take competitive advice from sakurai. the e-sports aspect was by accident and brawl was made specifically to be anti-competitive. it was not until ultimate that smash bros had quality of life features specifically to accommodate competitive play. however, i do agree that the game has to do well before you even consider endorsing the competitive scene

I would say about number 8 and number 3 were both fails but Infinite Warfare was not a bad game the trailer was just a bad first impression. Number 3 unlike Josh said in the video the attack had to do with the story. It was a live report of the Coalesence Disaster which is the basis for the entire story.

The presence of microtransactions actually turned me off from buying Crash Team Racing
Please don't judge it on the MTX. The developers Beenox have done such a good job of getting around Activision forcing MTX in. Its received 6 months of free content updates and will be getting at least several more. Everything can be obtained by just playing the game and they've made the in game currency easier and easier to obtain. Also the option to buy MTX is never promoted and its hidden away in a side menu. Plus all of the unlocks are purely cosmetic, the raw game play relies entirely on ones own skill.
Buy the game, it’s fantastic, just don’t buy the microtransactions. Hopefully that would send Activision the right message

I hate Activision far more than I hate EA. Always have, and don’t really see that changing. The last entry on this list compared to the last entry in “Top Ten EA FAILS” basically sums it up: EA overworked its employees, while Activision did the same, but also broke several laws and lied to their stockholders.
EA is already hanging by a thread in terms of reputation, but Activision is on thin ice as well.

Fun fact: Back in 2021, Jamie Kennedy had a podcast and he revealed what had happened and why things were the way they were with the E3 Activision 2010:
• Jamie claimed he wasn't drunk or on any drugs during the conference. He stated that he was tired. (I doubt that)
• The next thing that Jamie stated was that he wasn't the original actor that Activision picked for this. He was a last-minute change since the original actor opted out. The original actor was going to be B. J. Novak (aka Ryan from The Office and Ben Manalowitz from Vengeance). Jamie didn't even know that this was for E3 and it was supposed to be a huge event. It just seems to be extra cash to him.
• He did react to the E3 2010 Activision video clips and he realised that some of the 'jokes' he made weren't good. He even knows that it was garbage. It was just a case of him not knowing what he was getting into.
Y'know... I love the remake of CTR. But I will agree, the microtransactions addition felt like a major gutpunch. And to make matters worse, they were not up front about them, sneaking them in after launch.

Actually, for several years now, Activision has been patching in microtransactions to a game after it was already released to avoid critical reviews and ESRB ratings until after the game has sold 90% of its lifetime sales. CTR Nitro Fueled is just the one where online pundits like Jim Sterling had finally had enough and publicly called Activision out on it.

As a little bonus fail for Activision when they announced the Spyro Reignited Trilogy they said that all three games would be included on one disk. However when it was release people found that only the first game was on the hard copy plus a few levels in the second and the third. The rest needed to be downloaded in a Day One Patch. Now I have heard that they have started to make hard copies that have all three games on it and Toys For Bob was the company who made the game which given how they handled Spyro in Skylanders I was quite surprised by the care and quality of the Remastered product. Every bit as faithful and loving as the Crash Nsane Trilogy. Still dick move Activision.

Never knew that end credit screen was something I needed in my life. Good video too! That's the whole reason I couldn't get behind the Remastered cause I during the time of when XBOX LIVE was on Xbox 360 I had gotten the DLC and stuff for the Three CoDs, and the prices were decent but then when they jumped the moon on the DLC for the recent games I had to do a hard pass

Okay. Who's here after Activision started actively sabotaging their old CoD games by send C&D letters to clients that allowed people to play the games safely. Mind you, several of the old games have several security issues that make the games unsafe to play on PC, security issues people have been exploiting to kick people out of servers and take private info.
But instead of fixing it, or asking these community devs to help do it for the official games, they just take away the only sage way to play games like Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3, Modern Warfare 2, etc...real smooth Activision.
We made need a new Activision fails list for 2023 alone at this rate.
