I remember thinking everything was funny when I was hooked on pills. 15 years clean and absolutely nothing about that time and things I experienced is funny. I'm ashamed of the things I did and didn't do. The lies I told myself are probably the worst of it all. I got real honest with myself and realized how big of shitbag I really am. Praise God I'm where I'm at now and truly hope Jeremy makes it through this part of his life.
Yea, I was thinking the same thing. All these comments about how funny this is, and I’m just reflecting on my past, and thinking how sad I am for him to still be sick.
I bet his kids don’t find any of it funny. I hope one day he is able to get honest with himself and eventually find freedom. But, for the grace of God, go I.

Vicodin from the dentist was my first experience with opioids as well. 16 years old, and I was hooked. Years later it just got heavier until heroin became available, and then fentanyl. Had to get clean and relapsed so many times. I just finally stopped my suboxone and quit drinking and I’m 14 days clean. Depression is a motherfucker, after the sick it’s just so hard to fight the apathy towards everything. But I cannot wait to get my mind right again, and I pray to whatever God there is that I stay sober. I cannot go through that sick again. Im so tired man, I’m fucking 33 with three children and a great job and house and car and I just have to constantly remind myself of how much I have to lose. Dope just overrides all common sense, it’s so scary… and ever since my wife of 5 years found my dope last year, the shame I felt as she screamed and cried, asking me what the fuck she’s supposed to do if I die… it killed me man. Please, whoever is reading, dodge any opioids like the plague, and if you’re on it, please save yourself. It’s so hard but it’s so worth, and you’re worth it too.

I'm 1 year clean from fent and I just want to let you know it gets SO much easier as time goes on. I struggled with intense cravings and "missing" the drugs for about 6 months but at 7 months the memories kind of started to become foggy and I would think more about the present and the future then the past. Now that I've reached 1 year, I can't even imagine getting high again... it feels so foreign and weird to me that I used to shoot fentanyl every day and live that life. Sobriety will eventually come so naturally and the struggle will be gone so do not give up!
What's crazy is you hid a full on opioid addiction from your wife for 4 years, unless I'm reading your story incorrectly. I can't believe she wouldn't notice you were on something unless you were the most strategic addict alive, or your habit was manageable. Either way, depending on how long you were on suboxone and on what dose, you should be over the physical withdrawal, mostly. You're probably heading into PAWS, and you may be dealing with that for a couple of months.
Some things to note that many recovering addicts neglect is that substance abuse can mask real issues such as depression, ADHD, anxiety, chronic pain conditions, and these things may start coming back to bite you, and isnt necessarily due to withdrawal or PAWS. Be easy on yourself and don't hesitate to seek help for any suspected conditions. For example my father abused oxycontin, and when he detoxed and recovered he noticed his knee pain became unbearable, something his habit had been masking. These little things can push you towards using again, so don't neglect it and see a doctor.
A second thing, is the PURPOSE or REASON for staying clean. You have to want it. And here's the up side for you, I can tell from your post that you want it. You want it for your wife, your children, and your life. You're raw dogging suboxone withdrawal for something, you're putting yourself through hell for something you think is worth it. I think you will be very successful.
There's going to be a lot of rough times ahead. It will get better, then bad, then better, then bad again. You really should sit down and write down things you want to work on, and try and create healthy routines to occupy yourself. Maybe start getting info fitness, start eating better, planning day trips with your family, take this time to create healthy positive routines. Without active addiction occupying a large part of your day and brain space, you will undoubtedly feel a "void" in your day to day.
Work on communication with your wife-- she's recovering with you, don't ever forget that. You've been lying to her for 4 years, that doesn't go away over night. Talk to her, remind her every day you're working towards something better, build that trust up again.
You got this buddy, you're going to be okay. Trust me.
The idea that a dentist could prescribe opiods to treat post-op pain in teenagers out of hospital is insane
You know what's so fucked up? Losing your child, starting to do dope again the night of her funeral, and then 9 months later finding out you are 6 montha pregnant. Then your doctor tells you you cannot safely detox and has no experience with a pregnant women in addiction so really the only thing she can tell you is "don't detox", and then every detox you call does not work with pregnant women. Talk about disappointment.
One of my first highs was at the dentist and I never forgot it.
Stealing from people is a real scumbag thing to do.

I've watched 100's of these videos now and many many addicts admit to stealing to fund there habit at times but 99 percent of them expressed some degree of shame about it, of at least acknowledging it was wrong.
This guy on the other hand as he described his window cleaning job that allowed him to steal from his customers seemed to think it was cool, "funny" all a good laugh.
I said I don't think so. But there"s always some bellend like you that'll enable absolutely anything to show what a wonderful person you are.
This guy is very "slick"
In fact, he's a little scary. His delivery is too "O I'm not that kind of junkie" but his eyes are a whole other story. He reminds me of several people I had in my life.

It's unbelievable that our society tolerates this kind of guy. We put them up in hotels, pay for their addictions, all the while they steal and scam their way through life with zero consequences. Why do you think people are leaving California?

Fun interview, I think he likes telling stories and he tells them well. The stories are not so much about the dark side of being an addict but the adventures of one and how it all worked out in the end, so far. Wishing this soul a healthy future, I see a big potential in him to help others.

He's a likable guy.. I think he's one of the few that could actually turn it around if he wants. It's not to late dude.. you've got kids don't you want to watch them grow up and get married etc? I think you'd make a really good sponsor and maybe even a drug counselor. Turn your shit around dude.. I see potential! Get after it!!
The answer is no, he doesn’t want to watch them grow. If he had his way he’d do drugs without dying, while being there for his kids . Dude wont ever care about his kids more than his high sadly
I’ve always equated the name of the channel to the fact that all of your guests are everyday people, they are the structure of this country and at the same time they are the most vulnerable people in our society. Just like the soft belly of the beast.

That’s the way I alway saw the title of this channel, given its content. I’m a homeless heroin addict in NYC and found the title perfect, because we act tough, Heck!, we are tough, but growing up in a rough neighborhood, started dealing at 13, been locked up in Spofford as a juvenile, then Rikers Island as I got older. It’s scary. You don’t let it show, but you hide that vulnerable part of you and you act like you don’t give an F. Anybody from NYC? If ya lived that life ya know C74 ‘Adolescents AT WAR’. Anyway, I’m still on the streets in my mid 40’s and if it’s one thing I’ve learned dealing with all these street people, gangsters, on the inside and on the streets is we act tough…’act’. Some of the most vulnerable, scared, unsure of themselves, unconfident, people I’ve met in my life, the guys who carry a lot of fear and worries, are some of the toughest, scariest looking guys you might ever see. One look from them and you’d be shook to your core. But they all got something they would break down about on this show. That’s why it’s the perfect name for this channel. Some of the scariest most dangerous beasts still got that soft vulnerable underbelly part of them. Don’t get me wrong though, there are a few guys who don’t have none of that vulnerability, no sense of fear or nothing. Those are the truly dangerous. Those are the ones you really need to stay the F away from. There something deeply unsettling about them types.

People can function in life on drugs, you just don't see it. You see the people who can't afford a habit or who can't get them legally some way. The illegality of drugs and capitalism/poverty has as much, if not more, to do with why people end up on the streets. That and the judgment from normies.

Thanks for doing these interviews. Your work has inspired me to start a project on the same subject in the city where I live. My subject is the same as yours--the underclass: homeless, addicts, drunkards, prostitutes, beggars, clochards, pimps, gypsies, street people in general. Instead of video, my medium is paint. I paint their portrait while they talk. My goal is to raise awareness of their existence. I had my first exhibition, and it was a success.
This guy sounds like a bus stop rambler. Always needs a cigarette, some bus fare, maybe some gas money, and some change to call his mom.

Yeah well I'm still nice to those people. I buy them a water. One black lady was short a dollar or two on her beer and I covered it. That beer was probably the only thing she was looking forward to that morning as sad as that sounds I couldn't deny her that

Jeremy is capable of making his mark in a positive way. He's smart, he's self aware, he is obviously capable of completing steps necessary to achieve a worthy ideal. I hope he finds a way to do that. His kids need him. The world needs him.

AI isn't all the way there yet. And there are clients that still want genuine human voices. This is similar to hand-writing mailings. Computerized mailing lists do not have the same effect on the recipient that a hand written letter or post card.

He was interesting. I like this kind of interviewee. Because most others spend 3/4 of the time talking about childhood trauma which is so depressing I just click out.
Childhood trauma has affected our lives and who we choose to become.

Why are all these comments so negative? This guy tells his story with all the ups and downs, and you shit on him for not just having a massive victim complex. Some insane strung out mentally Ill transgender individual will babble and you all say “OMG what a beautiful misunderstood person I’m praying for them!!!”
Then this guy, who served in the military, has obviously had serious ups and downs, tells what sounds like honest stories of heavy drug use and also sobriety, something most addicts deal with.
I actually found him to be a great story teller, and he obviously knows how fucked up his situation is but is able to find the humor in the absurdity of it all. Great interview Mark! And I hope you can figure it out Jeremy.

Sad shit. I have empathy for addicts as I have been down that road after being hurt in iraq. At the same time I’m sick of addicts destroying the communities I live in. Complicated situation
most of the junkies don’t really care about what they do to their families and community in general
addiction is an illness that needs to be cured, but don’t forget that a lot of these guys perfectly understand what they are getting into when they start using drugs
This was sad in its own way.
My buddy was getting fentanyl and I went on a bender with him for a few weeks and this shit is not worth it. Some toxic shit.

The guy’s gifted and bright, I hope he gets clean some day. I used to live on the streets in New York, the stories you hear are incredible but once you get sober it all starts looking very different and far darker than what it did when you were ”on it”. -E.K.

Something that caught my attention - Jeremy saying he had to send his kids back to their mom (who had bailed on them and him years ago) after his parents sold the house they'd all lived in, because "he couldn't do it on my own and go to work and send them to school and all this sh*t..." Does he realize how many single mothers do just that? There is a lot of information about single parent households out there, but one example = "The 2022 Current Population Survey estimated 10.6M one-parent households (7.9M mother only and 2.7M father only)"
And lots of data that show children raised by single mothers fare far worse than children raised by single fathers.

Question remains - why didn't Jeremy feel "he couldn't do it on his own" - and send them off to a mother who apparently deserted them? My guess is his parents did the heavy lifting in raising the children, but there's a lot we don't know.
@@karenfryberger4260 Just because there are a lot of single mothers who do all of that doesn’t make them a good mother. I don’t know why people assume that. There are just as many deadbeat moms as their are dads. I actually know more moms that left their kids because they couldn’t handle it or found another partner who didn’t like kids or because they had them too young…etc. The grass is not always greener on the other side
@@eligreg99 I hear you. My original post just questioned why Jeremy said he "couldn't do it on my own...and all this shi*t." I'm not assuming all single mothers are good mothers, but I do think many of them have difficulties that single fathers don't face, as represented in the stats I posted.

I’ve used fent for years and in between those years I’ve gotten clean for months and each time I’ve relapsed .. I jsut relapsed recently after getting clean for 4 months :(( my mom passed away & it’s been so hard on me I’m only 19 and feel so stuck and such a failure :/

TJ is not the place you want to get lost on foot as an American. When I was in the military in SD, lots of us used to go down there all the time, but we were young and dumb. Eventually I stopped because of a few sketchy situations, and now I've heard they don't allow people in the service down there. I know the cartel stuff was really ramping up around the time I got out.
Mexico has American pharmacy plants Eli Lilly for example.
Jeremy is a good dude. Really hope to see him on the other side.

this one struck a 'memory cord!' i remember raving in the 90s & meeting people like this--stories of great adventure, it always seemed they were 'coming from somewhere else' then moving on. &, of course, all the crazy times we'd have high (mostly on psychedlics or K, which were what we used.) i know people who told stories of being on the mex border EXACTLY like his. they usually were there to smuggle Kitty. i feel like i met this guy. his story left me sad & contemplating--we can't only amount to our memories. we HAVE to be something more. it's like he's in an never ending PISCES cycle which is search for emotion, guideless direction, structurelessness & wild transpirings. yet pisces has it's place. it's just one sign. the sun comes up, there are infinite other varieties of human experience . . .
being nothing but a memory is why many people have built long standing monuments, why the rich pay to plaster their name on some institution

Jeremy is a nice looking and articulate young man but he is so in love with the drug lifestyle-he seems proud of it. Unless and until he can realize that this is nothing to aspire to, getting off the pills permanently will be difficult, if not impossible. Perhaps he is just laughing out of nervousness but there is nothing funny about this story. He reminds me of my late brother who paid a very high price with his health in the later years of his addiction and died way too young.

@@KoalaBeer. Thank you. His main cause of death was congestive heart failure and kidney failure but he had pretty much damaged every organ in his body before he passed.
I'm so sorry you lost your brother. I agree, Jeremy's nice-looking and articulate. I hope he can find his way out of the life he's currently living and can be sober for the rest of his life. I see so much potential in him.

This guy reminds me of me a little. A bit self destructive. That TJ story had my anxiety super high! I could picture all of that! Would love to see this dude put his addictive personality into something positive (like working out or something). It seems like there is a great guy underneath all those complicated layers.

I don't understand why older generations abandon their adult children and grandkids. My family abandoned me when my son was newborn. It's been so hard. I damn sure will be there for my grandkids if I'm so fortunate to have them. This idea you can check out on life and family and go to Florida or Arizona is morally wrong.
My parents both spend little to 0 time with my daughter, I'm 28 me and my wife moved back to Buffalo from Colorado when she got pregnant hoping my parents would be better grandparents than they were parents, both of them have a new partner and have little interest in my child, my mother is a little better. My father moved to Dallas with his girl and has seen my 5 year old maybe 5 times total for maybe 5 hours total. However your parents don't owe you a roof over your head or support beyond spending time with your child. Adult children should not rely on their parents to take care of them and their children. You need to handle your own life and if they don't want to have a relationship with your child, that's on them.
boomers were a generation of forever children. The world will be better the more of them are gone, but the legacy of a garbage generation will be lasting.
my mom did this after my dad died. lied to me about all sorts of stuff. lives an alt life compared to what she has told me. have no idea who that person is now and havent seen her in 2 years. not going to either. good luck.
I can’t imagine not being close to my granddaughter, nieces and nephews. All pretty much grown now. I sure did enjoy helping to raise them.
I’m a single mom. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I made plans to move back across the state to my hometown so my daughter could grow up with family.
Thank you for this comment. I went through a really traumatic and rough divorce 2 years ago and my dad moved out of state to retire in AZ shortly before that happened. Long story short, he got a new gf and barely speaks to me, has created a new life for himself and treats me and his son (my brother) like an after thought. I struggled with thinking that I'm just being overly sensitive as a 32 year old adult whining over my dad 'leaving me.' but perhaps I'm on to something afterall. It hurts that he doesn't try harder to be in touch with me. A phone call once per week or something can't be that hard..

The origin of the name Soft White Underbelly is fascinating. I always pondered the name of Marks channel. I only slightly recall Churchill used the term. The significance behind the title really suits the content.
