Yes, the only difference between a bulge above the surface and a crater into it is the direction of the shadows. Quite often, if you turn a picture upside-down, bulges and craters seem to flip.
Small tip for people trying to cover a surface, as you do in the beginning, with orange.. do not only go left to right. Make one pass left to right, and then one top to bottom.
Did similar years ago on a med blue (toronto maple leafs blue) with a very dark blue and a purple on a goalie mask. Looked amazing. Yrs later did it on a young girls Ibanez dot with a pink base and purple and lilac water drop. Looked amazing as well. I used a garden sprayer to put on the droplets though and distilled water. My first 1/2 attempts was just with tap water but tap water has many contaminants in it and the paint wasnt working the way i expected.
We use Trident which performs great , if you are located overseas then you can purchase it directly from them for reasonable overseas shipping costs : dna-paints.com Hope that helps 👍🏻
Thank you , it’s a technique that was shown to me over 20years ago, it blew me away then and still does today with its ease of creation and effective end result 👍🏻
Nice video, never seen this done before. Why or how does the orange panel not turn somewhat black from the black overspray. Is the overspray being controlled, as I heard you are controlling the amount of air, so as, not to move the water droplets.
@@AirbrushAsylum I love my Iwata but, when it comes to covering such a large area as that panel a Minijet takes no time at all and you don't have to refill the gun. Don't get me wrong though, that was a great tech, you showed us there, I love your channel. I don't often use my Sats as an airbrush, it is great for panel coverage though. I have 6 different brands of airbrush and you're right, nothing beats an Iwata
Thew angle and the distance. The water drops make anything that doesnt stick "bouce up" and by the time the land again its to dry to adhere or its so minimal it blends in.
If you dont have degreaser will cloth with alcohol work.? And do you always use opaque for base. As you can tell iam very new to air brushing. Thank you.
I am surprised that you didn't go back and add the highlights to the droplets. Looks to flat/faded for my taste. Thank you though for the great videos!
I am wondering why you did not prime that panel with white Vs. all the paint to cover the black? acrylic may work for this if you sealed the paint in? before putting the water drops on. just a thought going to try it on my next car model
Heating it prob won’t work as you would eventually evaporate the water, but using an intercoat clear first may provide a barrier to allow it to be done with water based paints ? 🤔
I did this effect once on a X Box controller. I used my airbrush to make the droplets super small and hit it with the black and whites! Turned out so cool being that small. Looked like dew was sitting on it. Wish I could post a picture of it.
OK, I know it's a stupid question, but you say it multiple times, but I hear 2 different things..... Water Motive paint (which is what I hear mainly) and Automotive paint which I also hear but that just makes more sense in my mind. And I am probably wrong on both occasions.
Hello, I have a question normally when you apply base color if you leave overnight you have sand it before applying clear coat,. How this would work if you let the drops Dry over night. Can you sand it..or you apply clear over it...?
Wow that paint is unreal as far as cover and flow I'm from cape town using imported paints are expensive as much of my work is on large canvas or mdf board where is trident made
Trident is made in Australia by DNA paints you can purchase from them direct as they ship internationally at a reasonable price visit : dna-paints.com For more info hope that helps 👍🏻
Hi Mate, hope you are well. Great video and really insightful. I need to think of a way to do something like this with water based now! Ive used rock salt before, to get effects, but my mind is now wondering how to apply highlights and shadows with water based paint onto blobs of water, lol. there must be a way... I shall sleep on it :)
Like and sub makes me wanna get a gun me self now hahaha.. had a go at some about 5 years back wasnt to bad at it had a go at some water base paint.. water base paints are possible just a lot more work as it stencil work like real flames
I know , this is why I don’t clear in my studio lol, just thought it would be interesting to see it with a couple of coats of clear (even though it really needs to be wet sanded and flow coated to really give it a good finish). I know it would be awesome if this worked on curved surfaces 😉👍🏻
Such a cool effect! Thank you for taking the time to share your techniques! 😎👍
No probs thanks for your comment and glad you enjoyed it 😉🙏🏻

Wow.. excellent 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
After the finish coat, one viewing angle resembles water drops and the other looks like moon craters. Very unique.
Thank you

Absolutely Brilliant Mate!
I Have seen other water droplet painting videos,
Yours is flat out!
Best effect I've ever seen!!
Literally has to be flat out!

Awesom.

That was Awesome!!! 👍👍😎
Great video and Idea. It looks really good cleared. Thanks for the tips
Glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏻
Awesomely brilliant! I'm a beginner & so happy I found your tutorials! Thank you!
Awesome Carsten
This is also done like this with a spraycan :) in case anyone wanted to try it

One small suggestion, Sata-minijet 4. Cool vid
Definitely a great gun but I personally love the feel of the Iwata , either brand is fantastic I think it’s just what you get used to 👍🏻😉

If you used water based paint I'm curious if the droplets be done with cooking oil? Once thee paint dries the oil could be sucked off the medium
Great video. Wondering if you would do one on the grunge look? It seams to be a popular background lately.
Thank you and yes I am planning on doing a ‘grunge version’ glad you enjoyed the vid 👍🏻🤘🏻
how do you avoid the white overspray on the panel itself?
Thew angle and the distance. The water drops make anything that doesnt stick "bouce up" and by the time the land again its to dry to adhere or its so minimal it blends in.

Could you do this with water based paints maybe even candy but heat seal or inter coat first before he water drops
Heating it prob won’t work as you would eventually evaporate the water, but using an intercoat clear first may provide a barrier to allow it to be done with water based paints ? 🤔
Great video looks much easier then using my water drop stencil I use the Harder & Steenback stencil
Lol thank you , yes it’s a great easy technique 👍🏻
I use rattle cans to cover large areas
what types of airbrush do you use sir..?
can you do a vid on how to use water based clear coats.
Possibly , I’ll put it in the memory banks 👍🏻
Urethane basecoat and the droplets are done with water base paint? If not doesn't the water negatively affect adherence?
I did this effect once on a X Box controller. I used my airbrush to make the droplets super small and hit it with the black and whites! Turned out so cool being that small. Looked like dew was sitting on it. Wish I could post a picture of it.
Why are you lying and just making that up water won't absorb into the control you idgitt
Beautiful!!!

it happens the same to me,,, i just would like to know what paint to use... lacquer? enamel?
Hello, I have a question normally when you apply base color if you leave overnight you have sand it before applying clear coat,. How this would work if you let the drops Dry over night. Can you sand it..or you apply clear over it...?
nice I'm loving it looks easy hope to do it too thank you so much my god bless you and family
how could you do this effect of water droplets on a curved surface?
will there be difference if you started with the white paint first and then the black after?
could i use oil for the droplets on waterbased paints
Don’t think that will work 🤔 give it a go you may come up with some unique effect 👍🏻
My biggest problem so far is the mixing of paint and thinner?
Wow that paint is unreal as far as cover and flow I'm from cape town using imported paints are expensive as much of my work is on large canvas or mdf board where is trident made

There literally isn’t
these vidios would so much better if you tube didnt cut in every three or four minites to run advertizeing
TH-cam is making videos sometimes unwatchable
That's goddamn genius, never even considered using actual water droplets to paint water droplets.
do some kind of crazy octopus 🐙
😍
Damn, now i got water droplets on my screen.
Lol, thanks for your comment 👍🏻
QUESTION Will solvent based paints hurt your airbrush?
Like and sub makes me wanna get a gun me self now hahaha.. had a go at some about 5 years back wasnt to bad at it had a go at some water base paint.. water base paints are possible just a lot more work as it stencil work like real flames
Thanks appreciate the comment glad you enjoyed the vid 😉👍🏻
I can taste that clear coat from here. Hope you covered up your camera during.
I wish the water droplets worked on curved surfaces...
I know , this is why I don’t clear in my studio lol, just thought it would be interesting to see it with a couple of coats of clear (even though it really needs to be wet sanded and flow coated to really give it a good finish).
I know it would be awesome if this worked on curved surfaces 😉👍🏻
I'm using wicked colours and paasch paints .on Instagram. Mbking-airart your paint seems so much better quality
After the clear coat, I couldn't see droplets any more. All I could see was a brick of cheese.
Mikebking-airart
"The Red Cheese"
Why don’t you do your own clear coating? Are there inherent problems for the beginner, that we should leave that to a professional?
Do not spray 2k paint with your skin exposed.
I did this today but after water evaporated a couple hours later the paint blew off the panel like dust, any idea why?
