Thanks for the tour, Ho Yan. I have never had the chance to visit the College when I was a student at the Royal College (of Art) next door. They seem pretty much the same inside but quite different outside. My neighbour was a pianist of the RCM too and thus I had had free morning music to wake me up each morning. But when I was an MDes student at RCA (back in the mid 80s), my College and yours shared the same student hostel called Evelyn Gardens in South Kensington. Our part was later sold to the Imperial College to build our Stevens Building in Jay Mews. When I was reading my doctorate at RCA (in the late 90s), they hired an Accommodation Officer to find us rented houses for us to share out among 3 to 4 students, normally in Zone 2 or even 3. Not as nice as when we had the Evelyn Gardens then. Take care and wish you have a bright and successful career ahead of you!
Hi Fauziah! Thank you for your comment and for sharing your story with me, really enjoyed reading it. Please take care as well and I wish you all the best!
You can check my part two video for more room tours! We have our classes in the Parry Rooms (the place I went at the end) or in the bigger practice rooms.
Hi all, yes, of course. ANYONE on this planet can be part of college! For detailed requirements, please check their website here: www.rcm.ac.uk/international/apply/ Hope this helps and wish you all the best!
Hi I’ll start in summer there. How many hours is one allowed to practice on grand Pianos per day and how much on uprights 🤷🏾♂️ Is it who saves the spot first or how does it work? Greetings
Hey Adriano, great to know that you are going to study in RCM! We are allowed to book 2 hours each day, no limitations on whether you book uprights or grands. However, we can use more allowances given that the room is free when you are about to book it. You can start to book the rooms 48 hours before the booking time, so you are going to see a lot of people staring at their phones to book rooms and renew their booking time. It's quite a competition haha. Good luck!
Please check rcm's official website for the requirements! I think what matters the most is the audition part, where qualifications/certificates are just a reference of your skill level (however is also relevant and could be useful when applying). I would say most people attending is around the level which is required to attain the Performance diplomas. All the best, keep practicing and hope this helps!
