Saudi Arabia was a possibility but the lack of the right type of fuel needed for Baloo is not readily available there and it would have meant 3 or 4 stops and the fees for landing and handling in Saudi are very expensive.

They have had to leave out South America because of a number of reasons. The weather in the South Pacific is against them, there is no aviation fuel for their type of aircraft on the islands they would need to stop at and their time scale would not allow for any long delays if they still want to get back in California for the 10th November.
A circumnavigation or Round the World (RTW) must cover at least the circumference of the planet in distance flown...24,000 miles. This they will do, so they will have flown around the world. Earlier expectations of visiting a lot of places where they have had to now miss out are because of the time scale they set themselves. Add to this the weather systems in some places and the lack of aviation fuel in others has meant the route has had to be teaked many times.
They are not there yet! I check the map and they are in Hawaii at the moment. Just a cross from Hawaii is Mexico, so I think they have time to visit South America/Central America as well.
That may seem possible but the reality is that the aircraft has to be prepared for the long Pacific crossing from Hawaii to California...they will be at the limit of their range and although a quick look at a map may put Mexico 'close' to Hawaii, it is too far fro them to fly there with their limited fuel reserves. They are also having the aircraft serviced at Hawaii so that everything is working well for what may be a 12+ hour flight. Both JP and Louis also need a rest to be prepared for that epic leg across the Pacific. So, by the time they are ready it will be close to the 10th and at least they will finish on time.
