I loved this tutorial!! I especially like her easy way of explaining how to set up the spinning wheel, how and why to hold the wool, and to practice everyday!! The teacher isa gift!!
Spinning from a prepared roving like that will produce a worsted spun yarn. Point well, taken- If you have to fight the wheel or the Roving then you are doing something wrong. A great video for beginners.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm a beginner and I learned so much from this video. I've been afraid of 'twirling' all the knobs to see what happens but I'm going to try it now!!
Hello, I loved all the tips. I am working on a traditional spinning wheel and I am a very very beginner. I'm unnable to feed the bobbin, it works fine with the starter yarn, but as soon as I try to feed the yarn I spun it kinda gets all twirled and doesnt go unto the bobbin, any advice for that?
Often your beginner yarn will be thicker than the store bought yarn you ate practicing with. Thicker yarn needs more take up and if you have a double drive wheel it might be difficult to get enough pull. So, without seeing your yarn, my initial advice would be to try and draft your fiber more to get thinner yarn.
Thank you so much for the video. I have been spinning for a 1-2 year on my Hansen but 2 months ago I got a Matchless and I am struggling with it, never no what ratio or bobbin to use. Wanted to spin some nice worsted angora yarn not overspun but I am so lost in this. n I was wondering what bobbin and worhl ratio you are using.
@@BethSmithCouture I have all the whorl exept the slow wpeed, but to get a slightly thicker yarn would you use the 22:1 ratio and h.sp boobin ? And by lower tension how do I lower the tension ?
I can NOT get this spinning right! My wheel goes back the other way, my fiber gets sucked in too fast. I am having all kinds of problems. I thought this would be so easy cuz i have watched videos and spun on a drop spindle for two years. Can't get the wheel 😕You're a great teacher. I just want to make yarn lol

If you are in double drive you loosen the drive band tension slightly.
@@BethSmithCouture Thank you so much Beth for your help I am going to try this tomorrow and se how it goes.
That was wonderful! What kind of wheel is that?
Excellent, thank you
Beth, did you pre-draft this fiber? I am learning to spin and I am using an spinner. Drafting seems to be the hardest for me.
I almost never predraft my fiber. I only do that when the wool is felted or matted.

Suzi Q it's definitely a bit harder than it looks. lol. keep trying. you'll get it. reduce your take up though.
The one I'm using in this video is a Schacht Matchless.
Are you still spinning? I am looking for a mentor.
