If it did you would see the drive in your PC and it will also have a little emergency hole to force open the drive in case it gets stuck or when powered off. The dummy drive is just a fake one, but you can put one... Thats why it has the slot for it.

I have a similar product (Aspire E15 E5-571G) it's like an upgraded version of yours, with a cd player, i7-4510U processor, a gefore GT-840M video card, and 1TB HDD I do use it for gaming, three things I didn't like: 1- The mic: it's really not so bad, but not what I expected to find in a 4th generation pc 2-The initial set up came with so many useless apps that are annoying me, I just hate having all these things running in the background all the time. 3- The camera: it is enough if you just want to have a skype conversation or something, but I really expected something so much better. otherwise, everything is just fine, I don't have that fan noise, the touchpad is just so fine for me, and the PC is just doing the job I wanted from it.

Nice review, thanks. I just bought one of these for my girlfriend after doing some research, and I'm happy with it. Like you pointed out, there are some flaws like the poor quality trackpad (she uses a mouse anyways), and the lack of removable panels on the bottom, but for the price I think it's pretty good. Installing aftermarket storage is kind of a hassle, but in the end, it's perfect for someone looking to do pretty standard stuff.

alright i own this laptop and you get what you pay for. I love the track pad on mine expect i have a bump for some reason in it. Still works fine thou, But there are some issues like the battery is pretty short but not terrible, but there are many good things like i have never heard the fan and its pretty thin and light for the size. For any student or older person that wants a laptop to surf the internet or do work on this laptop is just right for you!
I use it for gaming, payday 2, gta 5 runs on low specs. Low lag, around 30fps. (Got the 3.2ghz version) Amd proccesor too. Very great laptop, no bugs. Windows 10.
I just gott this laptop with Intell N3530 Quad Core processor. Was on QVC for around $384. Came with 4GB ram and a 5400RPM 1TB HDD.I decided to upgrage the ram to its Max of 8GB.Wow wut a chore to get to the RAM slot. You have to take off the back and then remove the motherboard to get to the ram .Acer does not make it easy.I also replaced the HD with a 7200rpm. Would like to eventually get an SSD but 1TB SSD are costly.(as much as this laptop) At any rate it does perform faster now. Can even play Blacks Ops Call of Duty and Modern Warfare 2. Its a good price for a starter laptop.Mine came in an ice blue color. Very nice looking.
Ok, bought my Acer E5-575-72L3 November 2016. At the beginning of Feb 2018 it began randomly shutting down. On Feb 10 the transformer on the charging cable went POP and the computer died completely. Used to love my Acers. Don't know what to get next.
I bought one last summer for my studies. I regret all of it... It is very slow, everything is very laggy. There isn't even a way to take out the battery, and it isn't a notebook. Finally the track pad is horrendous. It is not the lightest of laptops. The fact that it is overall bad, I'm actually faster with pen and paper than with "this". Overall I give it a 2/10. Do not buy this laptop, you'll only waste your time and money like I did...
My laptop is same like yours, but idk the exact model. One thing i gotta say is for playing games it gets very hot. The speed is not bad for this kind of laptop, but the thing is it feels like its gonna explode and it gets really hot in a short matter of time.

+Kar Ser Hi. Not solid state. We still use this computer just for browsing the Web and emails. If your not gaming, I think this is a good computer only because it is inexpensive. The Webcam sucks. And speaker is tollerable.
i bought mine last week and i'm pretty happy of it. My laptop doesn't make any fan noise at all, it is pretty silent and i love the keyboard feeling.. it's almost like a mechanical keyboard.. but one thing i hate about it, if you want to do a hdd/ssd upgrade or ram upgrade you have to split open the entire laptop and get under the mainboard to reach ram slots, which sucks.. but overall, at it's price it is good.

I haven't purchased a laptop in a while that had only 1 hard drive and had a "D" drive. Let's say you're on Windows 10, then you can use Disk Management. It's built into Windows so it's free.
I like this laptop only because of the price. It's good for web surfing, word processing, watching streaming videos. That's about it. Speaker quality is just OK, not that good because it's angled towards the floor. Webcam quality is garbage.
My Acer aspire is away for repairs for bsod this was just after I had charger replaced I have had less than a year it worked fine when I bought it now I'm watching this on my tablet I have seen dozens of other Acer victims 😔

If you get one with faster processor and better video card, then it can be used for games. With what I got, I cannot play games and screen capture at the same time. I use to use FRAPS but now I use OBS.

I agree about the touch/track pad and video quality, but I have to make my new relationship work. I just bought mine yesterday at Best Buy. However I did get the touch screen version. I felt dropping the extra $100 is worth it.
Hi. This can be used for non graphically intense games or games that require a lot of gpu. I can play quake like and lots of indie Steam games. Cannot play battlefield. Would need a better graphics card for those.
Mine came with a loose bezel I don't know if that's something wrong with shipping or the build quality itself I'd just look out for this although some super glue will fix the problem.
JulijsPRO Hi. In the microphone properties, see if you can boost the sensitivity more if you haven't done so already. Control Panel > Sound > Microhpone Properties

I have had this Laptop for 2 years or so. I can say, for what I am doing, its quality is good enough. I got it with cheaper specs and it's still good enough. I don't bother with the touch pad anyways, first thing I got with it was a mouse. Second of all, I would like to point another issue. The 1TB hard that it comes with stock, is garbage. It breaks from absolutely nothing. I had to replace with a smaller but more durable one. Third of all, it's an absolute pain in the ass to disassemble so you can perform basic mentainance.
Interested in your opinion on WIN8. I too have avoided it. Have been using WIN7 since it came out. It appears that you can toggle between the old type of UI to the ICONS of WIN8.

Empress Abby Not easy to compare since the HP is 11" and Acer is 15". Besides screen size, if I read it correctly, the HP only has 2 GB of RAM. That's like the bare minimum for Windows. They both have Celeron processors so it's not made for performance. They'll probably appeal to a student or someone that just wants to surf the web and check emails. Can't even compare weight because the 11" is lighter. I think it comes down to what screen you prefer. 11" or 15".

I think the laptop can handle web surfing and watching Netflix. As long as you have the Windows driver, it should work. Those USB network dongles work well. 11" is OK if you move around, room to room or home to other places. But for prolong use, my body posture wouldn't be ideal since I'll be arching forward trying to look at the screen. It's a personal preference. I have friends that love their 11" computer.
I don't use this computer for multimedia. This computer is more for word processing and surfing the web. Considering the low cost, I was willing to put up with the poor speakers.

It can play those games but not at high resolution because it doesn't have a discrete graphics card. I wouldn't consider this laptop for games like black ops or battlefield.
The specs on this computer are excellent. Compared to my Aspire 5560, this computer feels more durable, in terms of the chassis. However, the components included feel super cheap. The power cord, and even the battery feel like they belong on some 3rd party computer. Display isn't super bright and it's 1366x768 so it isn't the sharpest monitor, but it gets the job done. It'll play many games you try on it. I haven't tried a lot, but most people have been able to run Far Cry 4 and Crysis 3 with a fair amount of ease. The touch screen is fairly decent as well.
I got a new Acer a few months ago and it worked fine in the beginning. In the last few weeks, it has been randomly shutting down. It does not show the normal shut down message you would see when using power button or Start Menu but just shuts off. When it comes back on, it says Windows did not shut down properly. I seemed to have narrowed this down to when I move the screen or move the laptop. Any possible solutions aside from dealing with returning to Costco? I ordered online so they don't even carry in stores so it might be a big hassle.

Short answer is yes, I think this is a good laptop for university. It can play light games. If you like more graphic intensive games, I don't think this will do. For me, 90% of computer time was spent on games, 10% was on university work. So if you're the same, I would recommend a more powerful computer instead.

So I installed eset AntiVirus program, without uninstalling the old one, so after restart my laptop got extremely slow, and etc. I have just uninstalled the old one AntiVirus system, and should I expect smooth working now?

+meine culting Are you able to use the USB for sound also? If not, you have two choices. Get a 3.5mm adapter so you can combine the sound and mic into 1 plug. Or get a USB sound card that accepts the red and green connectors.

+Vuk Radovic I had Windows 10 on it, but it was so bad I changed to Ubuntu and it's running smoother. Still not great but there's an improvement.

I haven't purchased a laptop in a while that had only 1 hard drive and had a "D" drive.
Let's say you're on Windows 10, then you can use Disk Management. It's built into Windows so it's free.

I like this laptop only because of the price. It's good for web surfing, word processing, watching streaming videos. That's about it. Speaker quality is just OK, not that good because it's angled towards the floor. Webcam quality is garbage.
My Acer aspire is away for repairs for bsod this was just after I had charger replaced I have had less than a year it worked fine when I bought it now I'm watching this on my tablet I have seen dozens of other Acer victims 😔

If you get one with faster processor and better video card, then it can be used for games. With what I got, I cannot play games and screen capture at the same time.
I use to use FRAPS but now I use OBS.

For laptops at this price range, I've only used Dell, Toshiba, and Acer. None these $400 laptops had displays close to HD.

Hi. This can be used for non graphically intense games or games that require a lot of gpu. I can play quake like and lots of indie Steam games. Cannot play battlefield. Would need a better graphics card for those.

Mine came with a loose bezel I don't know if that's something wrong with shipping or the build quality itself I'd just look out for this although some super glue will fix the problem.

I have had this Laptop for 2 years or so. I can say, for what I am doing, its quality is good enough. I got it with cheaper specs and it's still good enough. I don't bother with the touch pad anyways, first thing I got with it was a mouse. Second of all, I would like to point another issue. The 1TB hard that it comes with stock, is garbage. It breaks from absolutely nothing. I had to replace with a smaller but more durable one. Third of all, it's an absolute pain in the ass to disassemble so you can perform basic mentainance.

Interested in your opinion on WIN8. I too have avoided it. Have been using WIN7 since it came out. It appears that you can toggle between the old type of UI to the ICONS of WIN8.

I did not get backlit keyboard. I rarely use it and didn't want to spend the extra money.
I purchased one from Walmart three weeks ago. It runs slow; it freezes; often a white page shows up; I'm not sure what that means. Then I have to close the window to re-open that page again. I'm already getting "computer is not responding" messages. It drives me nuts. I wanted to return it, but my kid misplaced the receipt. Now I'm stuck with it.
I don't remember if Wal-Mart has membership cards but if they do, I think they can tell it was purchased from them. I would try anyway. If they say no, at least you tried. If they say yes, you either get refund or store credit.

Empress Abby Not easy to compare since the HP is 11" and Acer is 15". Besides screen size, if I read it correctly, the HP only has 2 GB of RAM. That's like the bare minimum for Windows. They both have Celeron processors so it's not made for performance. They'll probably appeal to a student or someone that just wants to surf the web and check emails. Can't even compare weight because the 11" is lighter. I think it comes down to what screen you prefer. 11" or 15".
well I wanted it to basically surf net , watch Netflix and print stuff for my kids for school projects, I kinda wanted the 11" cause its easier to carry around but the bigger screen might be better when I want to watch movies I would also like one that can hook up internet directly to it but I am not sure if the hp 11' can do that.

I think the laptop can handle web surfing and watching Netflix. As long as you have the Windows driver, it should work. Those USB network dongles work well. 11" is OK if you move around, room to room or home to other places. But for prolong use, my body posture wouldn't be ideal since I'll be arching forward trying to look at the screen.
It's a personal preference. I have friends that love their 11" computer.

It can play those games but not at high resolution because it doesn't have a discrete graphics card. I wouldn't consider this laptop for games like black ops or battlefield.

The specs on this computer are excellent. Compared to my Aspire 5560, this computer feels more durable, in terms of the chassis. However, the components included feel super cheap. The power cord, and even the battery feel like they belong on some 3rd party computer.
Display isn't super bright and it's 1366x768 so it isn't the sharpest monitor, but it gets the job done. It'll play many games you try on it. I haven't tried a lot, but most people have been able to run Far Cry 4 and Crysis 3 with a fair amount of ease.
The touch screen is fairly decent as well.
I got a new Acer a few months ago and it worked fine in the beginning. In the last few weeks, it has been randomly shutting down. It does not show the normal shut down message you would see when using power button or Start Menu but just shuts off. When it comes back on, it says Windows did not shut down properly.
I seemed to have narrowed this down to when I move the screen or move the laptop.
Any possible solutions aside from dealing with returning to Costco? I ordered online so they don't even carry in stores so it might be a big hassle.

At this price range, all of them will have some soft of problem. It comes down to how much of that problem can you tolerate. Take this one for example, It's got a terrible trackpad.

I'm looking into getting a laptop for school within the next month or so. I want something that can handle newer games like ESO at decent settings while still being good for school. I'm a light gamer, so it honestly doesn't make sense for me to shell out $1000+ on something I'll slow down with in about 2 months. My budget is between $ 450-$550. Any suggestions?

Short answer is yes, I think this is a good laptop for university. It can play light games. If you like more graphic intensive games, I don't think this will do.
For me, 90% of computer time was spent on games, 10% was on university work. So if you're the same, I would recommend a more powerful computer instead.

So I installed eset AntiVirus program, without uninstalling the old one, so after restart my laptop got extremely slow, and etc. I have just uninstalled the old one AntiVirus system, and should I expect smooth working now?

Are you able to use the USB for sound also? If not, you have two choices. Get a 3.5mm adapter so you can combine the sound and mic into 1 plug. Or get a USB sound card that accepts the red and green connectors.

Hi. Normal would be C. D is sometimes a partition of C. You can use Windows or Partition Magic to make your own D. Or install a second hard drive and call it D.

Mine did not come with a CD Drive, that's why I paid slightly less then units that have CD Drive. On mine, it just looks like it had a drive but that's just plastic molding.

It's OK. Not good, not terrible. It's a computer that is good for general use, like being a student, browsing websites, word processing, watching video.
It's not a gaming computer. Gaming in the sense of playing with medium to high graphic settings.
