So hard to find the correct program for myself, living in Ecuador the language learning has gone slow for me and I am really trying to find the right one. I am a visual learner but also need to be corrected when incorrect. So many videos to review on what the benefits and downfalls are.
Spanish I believe is the most practical language to learn living in the U.S. because each day I interact with workers who only speak Spanish. What a great language to learn, in particular for a 75 year old like me.
I've only used Babbel to learn Spanish and I agree w/ what you say, their lessons are very straight to the point and they give u all the essentials. Their grammar section is so complete, you can find anything you want to learn. And I love the fact they explain what is more likely to use in Spain or in Latin America.
Thanks for educating everyone about these Spanish apps. I did try a short course on Audible from Pimsleur once in the past. I thought it emphasized the sounds and audio portion very intensely. I think it is great that you bring out the best points in all these courses.
Interesting! I have spent two months on Duolingo basic, checked out Coffee break Spanish, tried out Language Transfer, dabbled in Yabla Spanish, and did Pimsleur CD beginner set. I wanted to know what is the best method for me. Pimsleur CDs were drawn out and I am a visual learner. I have not tried the 7 day free trial of Pimsleur yet but shall do so this month. After listening to you, it sounds like Rocket may be the better choice. Your input is very valuable to me. Thanks for all your dedicated work!
After checking out some of these reviews, I definitely think I want to jump in audio wise with something like Rocket or Pimsleur. Focusing on grammar in the past has kinda been like a straightjacket for me when it comes to conversation. I think I'll get used to the feel of the language first, then later supplement that with something more grammar focused like Babbel. I'll test out Pimsleur and see, since they have a trial.
I will definitely be looking into Rocket- I’d like to become fluent in Hebrew and Spanish, Rocket sounds like a great way to move forward in my Spanish goals!!
Excellent overview of the top classes. I have been doing Duolingo and was pretty happy with it, but recently fell into their what I'll call a trap all their points, awards, and etc. I hadn't been paying much attention to the points other than it was a measure of how much I was doing each day. Then I discovered I was second from the top of what the call Leagues. So I figure hey crank up the points for a bit and get to the top league then don't think about it. So that's what I did for two weeks really discovering every trick to mount up points. Even before I got to the top I realized I was getting points but my rate of learning had slowed way down. Then I thought once at the top your there forever and no more focus on collecting points for another week. I was wrong at the top the people were even more insane about just getting massive amounts of points. Also if you don't keep up the points you do start falling down in the league rating. I decided screw this points stuff and got back to focusing on learning. Trouble is the whole points earning system is staring you in the face all the time so hard not to care at least a little. I think the Duolingo focus on consecutive days is great and valuable tool because daily practice is the key to learning. But as I've said before there isn't enough listening and speaking in Duolingo for me so I'm looking to try something different and you review of Rocket sound like the one I should try.
That is for sure one of the big issues with Duolingo. Sometimes the gamification of learning overtakes ACTUAL learning. Maybe try Pimsleur...sounds like it could be a good fit for you!
I completely agree, I have seen it happen to many people (myself included) where you end up doing the bare minimum each day just to keep the streak alive… it does take away from the learning at a certain point, and becomes quite counterproductive.
I'm learning spanish because as a singer I love the spanish music so much and when I go on holiday, singing duets at karaokebars in Spain with my father who lives there, I want to understand and feelwhat I'm singing so we together can give the best performance we can. And be able to talk with the people who live there. Thanks for the video! nice style of presenting and good mentions! I will check those out
Thanks for the information. I bought a house in Ecuador in an area where not many people speak English. It can make doing things like looking for tiendas that sell curtains very time consuming. It gets lonely because you end up not speaking to people much.
Thanks for the heads-up and great information. I was curious, even tho it was not listed, did you test Ouino and decide it was not qualified to be mentioned
I have a tempted to learn Spanish numerous times over the last 40 years! Four years ago I walked the Camino in Spain. 800 km across northern Spain. I loved every moment of it I only wished I had been able to interact with the locals I’m sure it would’ve been a much richer experience. This winter I’m going to the Baja and would love to be able to interact with the locals. I’m a senior now but still determined ! I realize that I need to learn how to listen. I’m OK with the written but not so much with the verbal. Thanks for your reviews it’s teaching me a lot and bringing me closer to choosing which program to go with.😊
I am recovering from a knee replacement surgery and my goal is to walk the streets of Barcelona and see the bridge at Ronde. Travel is my motivation. My new partner is willing to help but i soul rely on her. Wish me luck.
@TestPrepInsight Just the review I was looking for -Thanks!! I'm a homeschooling mom and I've forgotten all my Spanish from school. So I'm looking for a Spanish course that my three kids and I can all learn together. What better way to learn as a family so we can practice with one another :D. Would love to win a Spanish Language Learning Subscription too YAY!
I'm thankful for your explanations! I've been a competitive latin dancer for 15 years but STILL CANT SPEAK SPANISH haha! Slacking. As they all are generally outside of my available budget, I'd be grateful to fin a free course! I'll be liking and commenting on videos moving forward! Thanks for your easy and detailed reviews always!
My husband and I are going to Mexico in 3 months for a friend's wedding, but ultimately would like to learn for myself. We live in Florida which has a high number of spanish speaking individuals. My nephew is bilingual as well, so that would be nice to talk with him in both lanuages.
Trying to find the best program for my son to do while taking Spanish I at school. This video was very helpful! Makes me want to give it a go myself and what better way to encourage him right?! Thank you
I'm thinking I'll do rocket or lingoda. I have been doing a lot of duolingo for a while but they are constantly making unnecessary changes. The new drastic change has made it so I'm gonna go with a different program. Duolingo sucks now but it was free so that was nice. Gonna go watch some Mexican Netflix now. Thanks for the vid.
The only reason I really want to have a good spanish app is because I'm going to spanish in 8th grade right now and I want to get some early preparation before I start the school year.
For children, I would suggest Babbel or Memrise, as the lessons are shorter (better for holding their attention) and contain more imagery (more engaging content).
I appreciate your explanation. I was getting a little stressed out about which app to download to learn Spanish. Im 17 and just got a job a month ago, and I wanna further my language knowledge. Thanks for this video and to all the helpful comments.
I would not really say that it rates you on a score of 1 to 100. I have never seen a score that is not a perfect multiple of ten. So that is a score of 1 to 10.
I’m not learning Spanish, but I’m trying to learn French because it’s such a beautiful language! It’s going to allow me to speak with way more people, and my mum speaks it so it would be awesome if I could talk to her without my brother or dad knowing 😊! If I was able to speak another language as well, I’d either do German or French because they sound very interesting to me!
I studied French religiously all through middle school and high school. Couldn’t regret it more. Wish I learned Spanish. My French has done almost nothing for me. The French don’t want to speak French with you. They want to speak English. They aren’t very excited when you don’t speak it correctly either. Guess it depends on where you live to how valuable it would be but I wish I would have studied Spanish. Lots of Spanish speaking people around here and they appreciate every little effort you put towards learning that language.
Most apps focus on Latin American Spanish, not necessarily Mexican Spanish specifically. Best advice would be to learn more general Latin Spanish, then supplement with a Mexican Spanish bonus course (I think SpanishPod101 has one)
I’m wanting to learn Catalan Spanish, so which would be the best course for this. I have used Duolingo for quite a while but it doesn’t let me choose Catalan only Spanish.

I want to learn spanish so that I can speak to my neighbors and watch Spanish shows without captions.
You can do it i am Spanish speaker and i am here watching this in English
Actually my grandmother learned alot of the English she knows simply by watching American TV shows and reading the captions
Are you still learning it?
Spanish I believe is the most practical language to learn living in the U.S. because each day I interact with workers who only speak Spanish. What a great language to learn, in particular for a 75 year old like me.
Absolutely, it's definitely the most useful and practical language to learn in the US, especially if you live in the Southwest. Thanks for watching!
I've only used Babbel to learn Spanish and I agree w/ what you say, their lessons are very straight to the point and they give u all the essentials. Their grammar section is so complete, you can find anything you want to learn. And I love the fact they explain what is more likely to use in Spain or in Latin America.
For sure, totally agree. Thanks for watching!
I’m more interested with babbel
I use Babbel now.
I used to study Spanish at university but barely get to speak it anymore. After watching this I want to start practising again thank you!!
Thanks for watching!
Eduardo is definitely a Rocket Man! He really likes Rocket's audio lessons. Great comprehensive review - a lot of options to choose from.
Gracias Eduardo
How did you know I wanted this video?! Awesome job as usual!
We're mind readers! Thank you :)

Thanks Roseanne! Have you tried Babbel yet? Might want to give that a try as well if you're a visual person. Thanks for watching!
I've been meaning to get my Spanish out of the attic for years. This videos are really motivational!
Really helpful video, thank you!

For sure, that's a great call. Sometimes it's better to learn language chunks and "feel" first, then sharpen it up with grammar
I've tried Babbel before. It's good to hear about others
I will definitely be looking into Rocket- I’d like to become fluent in Hebrew and Spanish, Rocket sounds like a great way to move forward in my Spanish goals!!
Yep! Thanks for watching :)

Helpful breakdown. I like your list. I may have to try Rocket for their audio lessons.
I think there are so many benefits to learning with Spanish being a common language in the US
Good breakdown, in my case I think I want to actually pair Lingoda with Rocket or Babbel.
Thanks for the review. If I have the budget I would go with Rocket Spanish for giving me the best learning course.
Might give babbel a try! Thanks!
