      On basis on metabolic energy consumption, transport is of following types
      Passive (along conc, graadient..no energy used)
      Passive = simple & Fascilitated diffusion
      Active : against conc gradnt..so energy used
      Active= primary avtive & secondary active

      Osmosis takes place through semipermeable.. she is right..
      Osmosis means movement of solvent only..
      That is what defines semipermeable membrane.. semipermeable memb alows movement of solvent only...
      Selective permeable memb alows movement of both solven & solute (ions / milecules) but that is decided/selected by presence of concerned transporter protein..
      Our cell membrane is selectively permeable

    I can not understand the coupled active transport part. If Na+ going down the conc gradient, it doesn't need energy, neither it produces energy. So what's the need of coupling???

    • @catsandrandom3844
      @catsandrandom3844 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Going against the gradient releases free energy, which can be utilized to transport molecules against the electrochemical gradient (charge of particles is also responsible for creating a charge gradient, so it's called an electrochemical gradient).

    • @botanyatoz5272
      @botanyatoz5272 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Water diffuses through the membrane without a protein because it's a small molecule with no charge (despite being polar)

    • @zulqurist
      @zulqurist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry water is hydrophobic and hence the the polar head is hydrophilic that is why water cannot diffuse easily hence need protein channel to pass out water into the cell
