Since having shoulder surgery 8 wks ago my sweet husband had to transport me to $tree so I could purchase 3 jars and 3tubular candles for my Bible study ladies. He asked me what I was going to make. When I said make candles, he could not stop laughing!😂 “ your going to buy candles to make candles? “. I proudly said “Yes I am”. I could just hear him now when I buy soap to make soap! Hahaha. Great idea!

This DIY soaper is going to give a few tips to anyone wanting to try this. 1) I would transfer ingredient list to the tag somewhere 2) please don’t use actual cinnamon… your recipients delicate areas will burn. 3) Using a course salt is a great exfoliant. 4) whatever appliances you use to cook be sure to clean extremely well before placing food in them again. This is a fun project and might actually get you all interested into truly soaping and making bars gentle on skin
@@pamwood3956 in normal soap making where the lye hasn’t processed yet, no you cannot interchange between food usage and soap making. However, with this project the lye has already processed so it should be ok. However, if this becomes something you do often then I would dedicate your items to soap making and get new for food. Just using 1 or 2 shouldn’t be a problem and washing thoroughly along with sanitizing option on a dishwasher should be sufficient.
When I was younger, my mother would take all of the slivers of soap bars that were left over, and boil them down in a pot. Once the soaps melted she would form the liquid into bars, and we would have new soap!

I’ve always loved the light clean scent of Jergens bar soap. I started using it back in the 80’s because of allergies. It’s nice to see someone using the soap 🧼 ❤❤❤.. oh and love lavender scent.💜💜💜💜..

Jergens really is an old fashion soap anyway. I remember my grandmother, she used to buy and use Jergens soap and hand lotion when I was a little girl, and I am 66 now. That makes this DIY even more old fashion and rustic to me. Thanks, love this soap making hack. You could even use other molds and make different shapes.
It's the only soap we use. All the others have that antibacterial stuff in them. Our hands break out and itch terribly. We love the scent Jergens has too.

I "created a monster" one year by making soap and everyone wanted it again. At DT the Shugar Soapworks lemon soap is a large bar sand so well-scented it's good to melt/mold for gifts.

But, this is nice for “soap making” on a budget without any knowledge. There’s no measuring of oils, and sodium hydroxide which can be harmful if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Not only did we use ivory soap flakes and water, but we also rolled them into balls and made “guest soaps“ and put them in a bowl on the back of the toilet for our guests. We also added some food grade food coloring (very little goes A LONG Way) if you find that you have not made it enough to make it as sick as you wanted because your crockpot is too small or you only chopped up three bars or whatever, you can always go back and add a second layer. This looks rustic/high end decorative
So fun! Do let folks know to unwrap the bars and let them cure for several weeks before using them~ the bar will last longer and the lavender and oatmeal won’t get moldy in the packaging. 🙂

Hey! I tried this craft last night and wanted to share my hack. I used a croc pot liner. When the soap was the smooth consistency I wanted, I lifted the liner out of the croc pot and smashed it down into the container I had. Super easy clean up, because you just throw the liner away after the soap has set. It peeled off easily. I was getting really frustrated trying to line the container with the plastic wrap 😂
What a great idea. I didn’t know you could just melt down regular soap instead buying soap making supplies. I’m going to try this for a bridal shower. 👍

Hi Kelly ~ I love this idea with the soap, I used to make soap with shea butter added but I have to say you have to watch with cinnamon as it can burn your skin. Hi there this looks fun. I melt down bar soap sometimes with a little bit of water to make shower cream soap. I found that calendula petals work well because they don't rehydrate like other botanicals and get that brown color which is actually I think the flower going bad but I'm not sure.

I agree with not using "hot" essential oils such as cinnamon, thyme, clove and Oregano for any products that comes in contact with skin.
I think I would worry about oatmeal and lavender clogging the sink or shower drain.

Hey! I tried this craft last night and wanted to share my hack. I used a croc pot liner. When the soap was the smooth consistency I wanted, I lifted the liner out of the croc pot and smashed it down into the container I had. Super easy clean up, because you just throw the liner away after the soap has set. It peeled off easily. I was getting really frustrated trying to line the container with the plastic wrap 😂

Hi Kelly ~ I love this idea with the soap, I used to make soap with shea butter added but I have to say you have to watch with cinnamon as it can burn your skin. Ground almonds is a good exfoliant also~ Thanks so Much for sharing~Awesome idea~~I pray for Ray and your Family so all goes well~~ God Bless~ Terri

Hi there this looks fun. I melt down bar soap sometimes with a little bit of water to make shower cream soap. I found that calendula petals work well because they don't rehydrate like other botanicals and get that brown color which is actually I think the flower going bad but I'm not sure.
