One invaluable lesson I learned from the panel is that the US is plundering Ukraine through Ukraine's privatization of assets (in a hurry too), which allows US companies to buy up the assets, and that the US would demand that Russia allow US companies to keep the plundered assets in exchange for peace in Ukraine. We are dealing with pure evil.

I beg to disagree: it all comes down to goods and control of them. This is what Russia demonstrated last year in fact. Money is just an aid to goods control and circulation, as such it's nothing but numbers, accountancy.

I agree with Michael Hudson on China not turning its economy to US bankers, whose excesses would drive the Chinese economy to 2008-type financial crises.
Besides, US banks would become convenient conduits for funds to foment insurgencies, as seen in the Hong Kong insurgency. China's refusal to open its economy to unbridled US financialization is what the US meant by China not opening up its economy.
China wants an economy based on manufacturing, not paper shuffling or mouse clicking to transfer the life savings of one person to another, which produces nothing for the country as a whole.

American history over the past century has been shaped by an increasingly powerful cartel of financial elites and the large industrial trusts they controlled. Their interests, not the interests of the nation and the population of the United States as a whole, determined the strategic priorities of this powerful cartel. Their overwhelming control of the national media has allowed their propaganda experts to present their interests as "America's interests." Most people in the world, including the Americans themselves, bought into this scam. You were simply deceived by your hypocritical Elite with the face of a two-faced Janus, promising you a set, democracy and the prosperity of America, and you fell for it like suckers. The same story happened with communism in Russia. 😀😀😃

Dr. Hudson keyed on the crucial move the Non-Western nations Must make before they become a sovereignty is developing a kind of "political union" of nations with their own Central Bank who can handle debts, balance of payment systems. We gathered that these nations are only at a beginning stage of development. If they can't create those necessary steps. then they will always be open to US Financial System of mowing them down. That's the Big Worry.

    The Conflict in a nutshell.
    Capital vs Resources and Production.
    Fantasy vs Reality.
The fantasy being the illusion of money (that which was meant to facilitate trade, rather than being something of intrinsic worth). The West
The reality, resources and production, real intrinsic value and worth (the trade of which is made easier using the illusion of money). The East and South
The end was inevitable reality always wins over fantasy.
The USA dominates over others in the west because it has resources and it controls Australia and Canada and their resources, it is reinforcing it's control over Australia with a major military invasion, a huge increase in US forces in Australia to control the South Pacific, the Indian and Southern Ocean.
The EU looks to be buckling and now will be in conflict with the US for control of African resources. It is very likely the EU will kick the USA military out of the Europe as a result of the failure in the Ukraine and growing conflict for control over Africa.
South America looks very much now to be developing into it's own pole, with the support of Russia and China, to weaken the USA.
However underlying all of this is the rampant corruption of the West and it's undermining of anything the West attempts, that corruption cares not one whit about the outcomes beyond gaining more profit and power for itself, it routinely fights amongst itself for greater share of corrupt profit and power.
You can never ignore the corruption in the West because it has such a huge impact in the outcomes of the West.

This is a question to Michael (if he ever sees it, as I’m not live).
If Russia is victorious, & wins the war, are legal contracts the West made with Ukraine devoid now the regions have voted to be part of the Russian federation?
And I heard that the corporations leased the land for 2 years & when the lease expires (which I think it expires in January or February, it would automatically fall into Americas hands? Could this war be even more necessary, because a country could go to war just for this? Another country can’t own all your country’s farmland or industry. Your population would have no future. My condolences. The worst thing is anyhow the lack of all political reaction at any level, and not just in Germany but across Europe. Paraphrasing Asterix: all Europe is occupied, all? Yes all. And Europeans are not even realizing yet. Just looked at the Berlin election results yesterday and extremely pathetic: more of the same and with enthusiasm, sure SPD lost something, CDU gained, etc. but where's the difference? Isn't Merkel and CDU collaborators with this slow-motion blow up of the pipelines since day one? Didn't she acknowledge her own guilt on powdering the Ukrainian time bomb? Did she or her cadres even protest the NS war act at all? Not even abstention grew significantly: most people are just brainwashed by what we can call NATOmedia, controlled directly or indirectly by US oligarchs.
We will awaken but it will take lots of misery and famine first. Reality check often works, but can be very deadly for the worse-off.

The discussions that we miss, are geo economic discussions like this one, that pulls together many complex strings from various sources. It's not often that we get such a broad, yet detailed and integrated economic perspective - mixed with real politik and relevant historical references. What an absolute pleasure to listen to!
It is also an antidote to the many somewhat hysterical "analysts" who predict the fall of the dollar tomorrow --- and on the other hand the naysayers living in the past with predictions of China's imminent demise and of course Russia's.
China's depopulation is very vogue at he moment -- it will helpful to hear some discussions on that.

Michael Hudson comments about President Obama bailing out the US banks after the 2008 mortgage-backed securities fiasco imply that the US banks such as Citibank should have been allowed to go bankrupt. But wasn't one of the lessons from the Great Depression is that the collapse of the banking system is the key event that caused the Great Depression? So should we have allowed the US banks to all have gone bankrupt? If so, how would that have been a better solution to what was actually done?

    • @joeblow3990

The FIRE sector of the US economy (Finance Insurance Real Estate) runs the whole country.
The 2008 crisis could have been an opportunity to let the FIRE sector implode and disappear and allow the government to launch PUBLIC BANKING that would transform the lives of Americans.
Millions of Americans pay exorbitant interest rates (10% or more) to Wall Street banks.
The same Wall Street banks can borrow money from the US government at 1% or less interest rates.
      Why?
What is wrong with cutting out the middleman and letting millions of Americans borrow at 1% from the government?
This is what was NOT DONE in the 2008 meltdown.

I'm only 45 minutes into this discussion. I find it excellent, which is hardly surprising considering the contributors. I do believe, however, that there needs to be a stronger emphasis on what I consider to be the PRIMARY cause of the current war, namely that the US MUST preserve the great economic privilege, worth many billions every year, which comes along with having the world's reserve currency. Should the US lose that privilege, -- or should I say, WHEN they lose the privilege, for the end is certainly coming soon, -- they will no longer be able to cover the interest payments on their enormous, multi-trillion dollar debts. Even now, with so many countries recycling the billions in profits they make on their selling us all manner of nonsense into US Treasuries each year we are in big trouble here. Losing such a massive purchase of US treasuries, to be preceded by a rise in interest rates as the dollar weakens, could very well tip us over into an economic disaster of one type or another. Feeling desperate to prevent such a thing from happening by trying to weaken the primary competition to the USD which will soon be coming from the BRICS bloc when they launch a new or decide on an existing currency, the US govt., or at least the section of it which has some clue about the basic economic and geopolitical realities, doesn't know what exactly to do. Obviously they cannot try to de-escalate, since that takes pressure off the global "south" to obey the US hegemon and their USD. And so we are seeing this endless, very DANGEROUS, series of preposterous escalations. The latest one, the over-the-top direct threat against Crimea, is the most dangerous of all, of course, since the Russians will under no circumstances allow Crimea to be taken back by Ukraine. Indeed, if the only way to defeat some Ukrainian operation seeking to accomplish their mad goal, were to use tactical nuclear weapons there is no doubt in my mind that they would do so. Fortunately, the Russian armed forces have by now so weakened the AFU as to render any such attack on Crimea highly unlikely. Ah, and finally here comes their discussion of de-dollarization, [around minute 47], which they will discuss explicitly next week. So it looks like they too are concerned with all these problems as well. ..... Well, as Gilda Radner used to say "nevermind."

Great discussion. And thanks for having the distinguished guests on Danny. The economic aspect is criminally overlooked by the populace at large. And it's a critically important topic when seeking to further understand the inner dynamics of the conflict, as well as it's impact and how it can be a measuring stick for the likelihood of Ukrainian success in a clearly unwinnable conflict. As an American, it's pathetic to see how the main stream overlooks how dire their economic situation is now, while also simultaneously (And falsely) conveying that Ukraine somehow has a realistic chance at defeating Russia. Along with policies that (counter productively) further encouraged the Russian economy to become self reliant due to failed U.S.-EU attempts at economic leveraging and sanctions on Russia.

Economic (pseudo-)Science is the Abracadabra Cult that acts as ideological backbone of the modern Capitalist Regime (at the very least in the Neoliberal version). I'm pretty sure that Hudson and the other respectable (alias "critical") economists would agree in general terms with this.

58:12: Dr. Hudson is saying here: it's going to be difficult for Non-western nations to put INTO place their own, independent economic/financial system. They need an independent Central Bank, a basket of currencies that run smoothly in trade/exports/imports. You'll need a "balance of payment" system to lend loans and pay off debt. Currently, this is NOT what is happening in these Non-Western countries. They had better get organized and get those mechanisms in place. Otherwise, they'll just keep spinning their wheels.

I don’t disagree with you. People here are often pitifully ignorant. Another sad thing is that the closer to war with China we get the more it will become politically incorrect Not to hate people of Asian descent or who are foreign nationals of East Asian descent. Look at the hatred towards Russians and everything Russian right now. I have a grim feeling this administration will sooner or later go from “stop Asian hate” to stealthily promoting this type of thing the same way it went from “white supremacy is the biggest threat to America” to giving such people advanced weapon systems in Ukraine.
People are sad. I remember during COVID a lot of Chinese and East Asian restaurants near me got very few patrons outside of me even though most of the people that run them probably haven’t been out of the country in years.
Once things go really bad the first thing people will do is start blaming Jews and coming after black people too.

    • @samowen2286
      @samowen2286 ปีที่แล้ว

@@TheGrindcorps Good points. I never thought about how ironic it is that it went from "stop white supremacy" to supporting unambiguous neo-nazis. I hope that it doesn't become politically ok to hate Chinese (or more generally Asian) people as the US inevitably ramps up war with China much like overt Russophobia is now ok. I agree that there already is a bit more of this Asian hate after covid, and the republican side is firmly in the anti-China camp.
You're right that if things get REALLY bad black people and Jews will be targets. Those groups get the most anonymous hate online by far.

    • @TheGrindcorps
      @TheGrindcorps ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@samowen2286 that’s what I’m saying. The COVID thing has not helped and is very ignorant. At the same time, at least there was actually something real to be afraid of even if people were woefully ignorant about the reality of how it relates to people of East Asian descent. When it went down I lived in an area with a huge amount of Chinese Nationals including international students including close neighbors and I felt perfectly comfortable. They were a lot more cautious, and considerate about the situation while at the same time being a bit less insane about the whole thing generally. What I mean is that they tended to be more on the same wavelength as me in terms of doing what they could to contain spread but still going on with life, taking sane steps that work like washing hands, avoiding unnecessary contact with people and adapting. Seemed like there was a lot better social cohesion in my complex and neighborhood thanks to them because there was more an environment of trust to everyone had more of a sense we had each other’s backs and doing what we can rather than insane virtue signaling, neuroticism and insane combination of mask obsession but in combination many social behaviors that expose people far more than a mask could ever protect them. With a lot of white people you would have masks on the beach or in the car by themselves but then go into closed environments where there is high potential for spread, but in a mask.
It’s realLu sad people were so dumb to think that even after travel from China was restricted that people with East Asian features, including a majority that have never even been to Eastern Asia were some boogeyman when it was entirely inconsequential once the virus had a foothold in North America. I simply don’t understand the logic in the slightest.
Considering how utterly irrational that is I find it hard to believe people won’t do the same or worse the closer we come to war with China. It’s absolutely crazy how bad things are with anti-Russian hysteria right now. Even a friend’s son who is like 8 was repeating some insane things about collective Russian character and how it is treacherous. It’s absolutely nuts and very concerning how prevalent it is on the left, even more so than in the right currently I’d say. Many on the right are sympathetic with Russia because of the strange view that Russia is some sort of conservative Christian utopia etc. it’s very strange and very concerning that many people that talk a big game about prejudice based on race/ethnicity, national origin, immigration status or even of structural Barrie’s to upward mobility based on these things do not seem to recognize such an incredibly extreme case of absolute, unadulterated irrational bigotry.
I fear if people claiming to be on the front line against this kind of thing are so fervent to engage in such complete and utter bigotry under the guise of human rights,” or “liberal democracy,” or I shit you not, even “anti-racism” then there is no reason that Sinophobia and more broad anti-Asian sentiment would be off limits. These “progressives(I call them regressives)” already will never shut up about China or Russia being “colonial oppressors” or essentially “racist states” when the circumstances surrounding such ethnic minorities would be extremely “progressive” if implemented here even compared to any of their ideas. It’s crazy because compared to indigenous communities or minorities in USA these groups have been and are treated much better. Outside of some things in the Soviet Era that were based on ideology rather than along racial/ethnic lines particularly the integration now and in past as full members in a wider society is leaps and bounds ahead of here even currently.
It makes very little sense. These groups they label as oppressed will likely be far worse off materially and socially if they get what they want with American dominance in Russia and China. If they are so oppressed by Russia and China and it is so intolerable wait until they get a taste of “freedom” America will bring them. There are a huge amount of imitation anti-colonialists on the left these days. They need to free the world of Chinese and Russian imperialism, but also American imperialism, by subduing countries into into subservience towards American interests and having their internal affairs run by America. It’s truly baffling. I’m all for LGBT rights but you see the colonial mindset even there to where these activists demand countries be sanctioned to death because an extreme majority of people currently have different views and laws regarding human sexuality and gender identity. When it is implemented it makes the situation worse for everyone, particularly LGBT identifying people as they are then blamed for situation these activists cause to feel morally superior, while everyone is starving and poor. It’s awfully to have to worry about being arrested or beaten up for something like an LGBT identity but people can get by not being out whereas after these loonies do all this shit to “help” worrying about that over food and very basic needs is almost a luxury. Look at Afghanistan. It is utter cultural imperialism to do things that way. It doesn’t actually help the LGBT people in any way, stokes further hatred of them and does nothing that might convince the countries to maybe not imprison people for such things as a first step. Unsurprisingly people don’t like having things they feel are another culture rammed down their throat in a modern form of white man’s burden.
Much of the left is so convoluted these days It would sadly not be surprising if much of the left is actually even more Sinophobic and anti-Asian than even the right. Certainly it will take a different form than the more basic often racial used bigotry of the right and people will go to great lengths to justify it as anything but what it actually is. I would guess there will be some kind of “noble” “progressive” ideological goal behind it and a tendency to dance around what such people are doing in truth. I’ve seen this with many things including Black Lives Matter. Such people come out as “allies” or “anti-racist” but they can’t even do the most basic things such as not reporting you to the police when you take a stroll in their neighborhood, God forbid you also live there. I have experienced this as a black man. Sad thing is they honestly believe in this shit so deeply they can’t even understand the most basic things in front of them such as such deep seated racism that they are terrified of you just going about your day. That is a reality I have often experienced so I don’t see why it would be different for anti-Asian sentiment. Much of the left will be “fighting anti-Asian hate” through marked anti-Asian bigotry perhaps. That kind of shit is so strange I couldn’t dream it up.
Sometimes I appreciate right wing bigotry compared to that. At least right wing bigotry tends to be more straight forward and honest as sickening as it is. With so many so called “progressives” they twist and dress things up in such a show and then when you suggest what they are doing is bigoted like that they will essentially try to say that you only think such blatant yet veiled bigotry is in fact bigotry because you are a bigot.

These countries should refuse to pay those IMF debts. Those debts are unconscionable on the face of it. In all those situations, these debts were granted on terms that Western European and USA did not face for their own debts. The only outcome is sanctions. That is why these countries are hoping that China and Russia can come through with the BRICS system.

Radhika raised a very good point at the end of the bancor discussion: the future of the dollar as a global reserve currency will look very different from today if countries stop incurring new dollar denominated debt. This is a logical evolution of the world changing from its current asymmetry configuration to a more symmetrical one.

pssst, Danny, re your PC, if you are doing a show like this can I advise that you build a desktop PC for the show and keep the laptop for general work. Point is a desktop is vastly cheaper to keep up to the standard you require and a hell of a lot friendlier to the world than a new laptop every X months due to them being un-upgradable and destined for landfill the moment they come off the line.
For Audio interfaces Behringer do a fine range that are cheap enough with higher end functions. Depending on what you need you can also find Yamaha Audiogram 6 combined mixer interfaces with 48v phantom power for very little money on the second user market and the drivers are still up to date despite age of product. As for how I know of these two subjects I am a musician and a computer hardware enthusiast for 3 decades, or because I am old o.o, which ever you prefer, ;o)
