With the midnight sky and big brown eyes did you stumble on a pearl? Wake me from a thousand meter stare With a halo hanging just a little too heavy And another evenings curls Mixed up with the morning in your hair Like a country girl that came across a cat out in the rain Like a country girl that played it true to form Gonna lay a little pity on the prodigal son who parted with his name Little shelter for a stray out in the storm You can try to put the past behind It’s on your clothes like burning pine Is that gin or turpentine you keep in your canteen? If pressure makes a diamond babe, I still might come out clean For a walking ghost that southern coast was a lawless piece of Heaven There were bayou dives and oyster knives and liquor for to drown And the Q-Beam lights and the rooster fights And the months I don't remember My wedding hand went busted And my luck was now winding down In the southeast Texas setting sun I sat surveying damage done We wish you luck and fortune hun, but we're closing in an hour I was backed up to the trinity With no more road to run No longer could I wander on alone under my own power You can try to put the past behind It's on your clothes like burning pine Is that gin or turpentine you keep in your canteen? If pressure makes a diamond babe, I still might come out clean.... Tejanos curse in Spanish And a Cajun eyes the weather There’s black mud on the belly of a yellow colt I ride Never thought I’d catch myself so calm out in the open As a gulf storm deals in bucket loads And hits from every side You can try to put the past behind Perhaps it’s only in your mind They close the doors at nine at Channel Marker 17 If pressure makes a diamond babe, I still might come out clean
I love Evan and Turnpike are in my all time top three but Isbell is on a whole different level. Kristofferson/Prine type stuff when it comes to writing.
Incredible songwriting that gives us a glimpse into his life for the last few years. Evan has been living and working out on a ranch not far from my home here in SE Texas and it sounds like maybe it was the right kind of therapy he needed at that particular time. Channel Marker 17 is a cool little bar and grill that sits on the shore of Trinity Bay and I never thought I would hear it mentioned in a song. Looking forward to the new album in the works.
Wow this is awesome. I was born in Port arthur, raised in Nederland area. It's a crazy feeling to have this legend of a songwriter that close to where i grew up
An amazing songwriting talent, so excited he’s back and doing well. Can’t wait to hear this one with the full accompaniment from the band, and hear the new album.
@@kadelondon50 I mean, they've been saying since they got back together that they were *fully* back together, not just back together to tour. That means getting back to releasing new music. So, yeah, there'll be a new album eventually.

He's back and better than ever.
You're a legend for transcribing this.
There isn’t a songwriter that can compete with Evan. This tells one hell of a story from the past 3 years.
Yeah, those lyrics are next-level, even for Felker. Seriously, these are Townes-level lyrics.
@@ChrisEdwardsTX words can’t describe how amazing it is to have him back.
Zach Bryan, Vincent Neil Emerson, and Charles Wesley Godwin are all phenomenal lyricists too, but boy it’s awesome having Felker back!
It's a short list, for sure. But I'd have to put Isbell up there as well.
I love Evan and Turnpike are in my all time top three but Isbell is on a whole different level. Kristofferson/Prine type stuff when it comes to writing.
Only someone that has been drunk under the 90 bridge or on the banks of Double Bayou in anahuac can rightfully appreciate this
