    I bought a bottle without having any experience with Aultmore simply because it hit all the right notes, non-chill filtered, 46%abv and so on. I was so pleasantly surprised that I immediately looked to see if you'd ever reviewed it and well here I am. Reasonably priced and a real gem that stands out from the crowd.

    Aultmore 12yo malt, one of my favourite malts for some time now. Love the way you put the flavours to words. Thank you!

    Reminds me of a 19 year old Glenkinchie lowland (amontillado finish) which after decanting and some time away, has blossomed to my great delight. I learned so much in my push-pull experience with the Glenkinchie 19 that I get the Aultmore's "morphing" process. WOW. Fantastic bottling. Many, many thanks for the tip.

    Thank you for the care and thought that you put into sharing the malts with us. Always very useful and interesting information. As I go further with my whisky journey I am gravitating more and more to integrity bottlings like these which are not chill filtered, coloured, or bottled below 46%abv.

    Ralfy, you are exactly right about the development in the glass for this whisky. This turns from a sweet whisky to a bomb of spice and cloves in the space of 25 minutes.

    I've experienced this "bottle in a bad mood" with a few Ralfy-recommended malts, which are now favorites: Old Pulteney 12 and Highland Park 12. I think the subtle peat tricked me into tasting a strong, unpleasant, vegetal celery-like note at the time (having tasted both at once). I also initially hated Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. But definitely love them now. Thank you, Ralfy.

    Actually got a chance to try this one at the Aberfeldy distillery of all places for a very reasonable price, it was quite amusing to have a malt from another distillery blow pretty much everything Aberfeldy produced out of the water and in their own distillery to boot! Though, I did also try a 28 Year Old Aberfeldy Cask Strength which was wonderfully complex and flavoursome.

    In Germany we use a similarily sounding word, "geplättet", derived from "platt" = "flat". So if you drank too much, you are "geplättet" = "flattened" (you're lying flat on the ground)😆

    After a few drams of this one...I invested in another (backup) bottle. This is a superb whisky at $50 and to my palette is a bargain. I'm not sure whether I'd overlooked this on the local store shelves or whether it is a recent addition. I hope that this bottle remains readily available for years to come as this is worthy of my regular rotation. I was surprised after having purchased the first bottle that Ralfy had reviewed it. This one fits me like a glove. I seldom spend more than $50 to $65 on whisky....with this one I feel I am truly getting my money's worth.

    Excellent excellent excellent review. Entertaining, educational, informative and warm. You know I started getting seriously into whisky because of Ralfy's vlogs but I have been watching a lot of other whisky review vlogs over the last year now and I must say that Ralfy's remains heads and shoulders above anything else out there.
    It isn't until you have watched Ralfy's videos that you realise the sometimes complete nonsense spouted by other reviewers. I sometimes have to smack my head when watching some "expert" say that this this cask strength fifty something ABV whisky doesn't need water and then go on to say that it has an unpleasant burn at the back of the throat or tastes closed....or when they tell us that the peatiness comes from the water and that salty taste comes from the sea air getting into the worm tubs...that the orange glow of that Speyside is its natural colour....'..and the local cafe selling fish and chips and Watney's Red Barrel and calamaris and two veg and sitting in their cotton shirts squirting Timothy White's suncream all over their puffy raw swollen purulent flesh 'cos they 'overdid it on the first day.' (am I showing my age?)Ralfy. You are the simply the best!

    How interesting Ralfy - in Australia the same word has come down from our early days of Colony as 'Blotto' which means the same thing ... essentially 'Blind Drunk' ... I was not aware of the Scottish origin of the word but it makes complete sense now that the Etymology is connected and a development from our nations Scottish ancestors ... mine own included.

    It’s funny, each time I come back to my bottle and taste it I come away with a different impression. At times it seems more herbal, at times it’s more sweet and fresh fruity, at times it’s more mild yet citrusy. Has anyone else picked up on this changing nature?

    On the flip side of breathing and oxidation Ralfy, how often do you consider re-bottling a fine whisky in smaller bottles to delay the further oxidation of a bottle you intend to last a LONG time? How long after the initial opening and first couple of drams?

    Hi Ralfy, have you got any tips for opening old bottles of whiskey? I recently tried to open a 15 year old bottle of glenmorangie 10 Y/O but when i tried to remove the cork, the part of the cork that you grip with your fingers came off in my hand leaving the other half of the cork wedged in the bottle. the cork is quite dry and flaky so I'm afraid to have a go at it with a corkscrew. If I just knock the cork through and put the whiskey in a new bottle will the cork harm it? love your videos and any help would be much appreciated. many thanks from a malty Manchester United mourner.

    • @ralfydotcom
      @ralfydotcom  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jonathan Young . . . this happens a lot ! soft-cork is just not made for long-term keeps. I recommend you remove all the cork as best you can and fit a new cork, dry old corks lead to spirit-evaporation over time.
