In Feb, I remember that there was a Chinese research paper that had used CCTV recordings and tracing documents of bus riders that indicated that infection was being spread by air and not surface. (for example, there was passenger that got off the bus about 30min before another person got on the bus via a different entrance.)

Darius Moon You are absolutely correct. People on the bus which were about 14 feet away from the infected person contracted the virus. Also a study in Singapore around the same time found the virus on surfaces all over the patient's room and in the air conditioning filter. Seems everyone knew this except the WHO, or did they? Trouble is medicine and science are politicized and monetized. People like Dr. Campbell that put people first are not in positions of authority. We could use more medical professionals like Dr. Campbell, he certainly has my respect.

I watched CBS This Morning ( the show ) back in late Feb or early March and they had some one saying stuff like airborne. He said it could rain bleach and it would not stop it. He also said flu like death tolls not worth shutting down schools for. Mask are stupid. They did not have him back, the world went nuts denying math and science, turns out he was pretty much right.

If true, this makes our schools death traps in September. No requirement to wear masks, too many packed into a classroom, airborne transmission, poorly ventilated in winter. Same goes for offices and public transport. The economic implications are huge. I would expect a second wave as soon as the temperature drops and the UK is back indoors.

    • @rijamor

'death traps'? At the height of the virus (Apr/May Eng & Wales) in the UK, there were 3 deaths due to C-19 between 5-14 yrs. During the same period in that age range there were 98 deaths due to other causes. I'd worry more about the other causes. Similarly, 25-44 was 474 due to C-19, other causes 2,526. Chill!

@@rijamor If there is a dengue style second infection increase in severity of corvid symptoms for those who have already had Corvid 19 then the outlook could be very bad. Normal seasonable flu combined with Covid 19 makes the coming winter a very risky time. Treatment is getting better but there will be deaths. Depending on how long antibodies are effective and several other factors we could have very many deaths and severely impacted younger people. Time will tell but we could see a lot of older men die and many younger women getting long term illness. So don't chill, keep informed, aware and stay safe.

Another interesting fact - during the lockdown in Italy there were no Sudden Infant Death Syndrome fatalities - not one - instead of the usual handful per day - the other thing they stopped doing was vaccinating babies. Of course, your opinion means zilch to them as they go on ignoring serious symptoms and usually dismiss you with "neuroticism." I am going through my own hell right now, suffering daily; been ignored for nearly two years and now finally one specialist wants the very CT scan I have needed for over a year now! I’m desperate for my own children to go back and I’ve been working throughout but I am concerned about what happens in September when social distancing will be entirely different and lots of children mixing. Even “year bubbles” aren’t going to do much as most have brothers and sisters in other years and secondary children (like mine) often need to use public transport to and from school. I feel like it’s going to be an unfortunate lottery for school staff and families of school children. I know children that have been poorly (not hospitalised or seriously) from this so to say children don’t get sick isn’t true, they can then send it home or bring it into school.
Parents always send children with colds and under the weather into school as they need to work. What may seem like a small illness to a child could be deadly to someone else.

Coughs and sneezes spread diseases by droplets. This video is about airborne transmission. COVID-19 doesn't spread by airborne transmission generally (just in virus dense hospitals sometimes) according to most experts. Measles, for example, does spread by airborne transmission - you get measles just by entering a room that a measles infected person was in recently. It depends how fragile the virus coating is, I think, whether it can spread by airborne transmission or not. The video doctor is a PhD teacher of nurses, not an epidemiologist or even an MD, not an expert.

Princess Diamond seems to have no infections thru air conditioning.
The vast majority of infections happened when poeple still met face to face in common spaces like restaurants etc.
After cabin lockdown there were only intra-cabin infections and some of the serving personnel.
Read the reviewed papers regarding Princess Diamond case.
It is not a proof that air conditioning cannot tranfer the aerosol and the disease, but it was not the case on Princess Diamond. It could be worth to know how air conditioning on Princess Diamond was/is designed.

There are cases near me of shop workers who've been working all through the pandemic close to the public only coming down with the virus in the last couple of weeks. And viral load is an important factor. And others present are at risk too. Trying to ventilate an area is a small harmless action when compared to the high risk of death and or suffering someone may be subject to.

Yes, but the study wasn't pointing directly to aerosolization. It's more on droplets ejected from a cough or sneeze. Aerosol literally means dissolved in air (although not scientifically correct), but you can imagine it like that. It means the really small droplets can be advected and diffused in the air for longer distance and time.

  • @willmiller7794
    @willmiller7794 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Took my sweet time to get to this IMPORTANT video. You, yep you, gave the information of the aerosolization transmission in March and since that time I have subscribed to its validity. There can be no denial, albeit by fools.
In my locality, in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. we have two significant illustrations of aerosolization transmission. The first was in Mt. Vernon, Washington, March 10th, where a three-hour choir practice resulted in the infection of fifty-two of the sixty-one participants with the death of two members of the choir.
A bit closer to home, at least in my State of Oregon, at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Island City, just east of La Grande. Of 365 church members tested, 236 returned positive for COVID-19. To be sure this is a portion of the State where the people are adherents to Agent Orange (President Trump) and scorn the scientific recommendations to the extent as to believe that the Coronavirus is a hoax. (Once Agent Orange makes a declaration his followers adhere to it.) Eastern Oregon is also sparsely populated, the folks spend most of their time outdoors or with doors and windows open in their homes (they don't have the inclement weather of Western Oregon, that is similar to England's) and the spread of the coronavirus had been slow, until the time of encouragement to ignore the State's orders to limit gatherings to ten people or less. As soon as they congregated in their church, sang their hymns, the virus spread like wildfire.
Being an adherent to the wisdom of the Gospel of John (Campbell), I have been diligent in avoiding enclosed areas and limit my time in a store to less than fifteen minutes while wearing a mask and avoiding anyone without a mask.
If anyone has been so diligent to read this far I will share my current endeavor. The cloth masks that I wear are a bit difficult to breath with and become moist in a short time. Because of this, I am working to employ a "mini-air conditioning fan" that will blow fresh clean air into my mask. The fan itself will be in a microfibre bag so the air will be filtered before it enters my mask.

Finally. I have been trying to explain this to people since the very start of the virus. I have been questioning why people didn't start with the assumption that this happens until proven otherwise. I still don't understand why people decided to assume the best case scenario (that the virus isn't in microdroplets) until proven otherwise instead of playing it safe and assuming the worst case scenario until proven otherwise. We have lots of data on other viruses, why would this one magically not be spread by microdroplets? Epidemiology is just a hobby of mine, yet somehow my predictions have been more accurate than the official ones. Very frustrating, but I'm glad to see it finally being handled more reasonably. Better late than never. I'm just glad my family took my advice over the official announcements and put masks on as soon as it showed up here.

In another reply I had explained that my husband has 160 patents and was one of the top10 inventors in USA. He has recently passed away. However he did have a unit ready for production eight years ago for hospitals, surgical theatres, hotels and clinics. These units could be put into rooms for a duration of time (10 hours or over night). But since the FDA thought it would cause harm if used improperly, it was denied. But times change and the novel coronvirus came along and the federal rules changed on their political whim. It would have worked in certain situations. He also would have invented a medium sized unit, that could have hooked up to Bluetooth that would have prevented any harm to people in a room with the unit on. But all that is moot now that he has passed away.

With that said, the scrubbers need to be quiet enough for the application and the filter replacement needs to follow safe handling procedures. They do make retrofits for HVAC as well.

John, you make me proud to be British with your no nonsense videos. Its a while since I have felt like that really, especially with the far right rubbish going on the past 5 years. Anyway, my Aunt who trained as a nurse in the 1950's would be turning in her grave at the filthy state of modern hospitals. I remember her saying, that in her training, they would even throw away a cup with a tiny crack in it because it could harbour bacteria. How things have changed.
5 years ago I had a baby by c-section. The state of the ward. So dirty. And they insisted I get up and have a shower, in a filthy shower room, on the same day as the surgery. No big surprises there, the wound got infected. I was in a little longer than most women, 3 days. On the the 3rd day I was the last in that ward, and they told me they were going to do the "cleaning". As I was sat there in bed, the "cleaning" turned out to be them pressing a button and a cloud of misty stuff puffed out of some vents in the walls. AND THAT WAS IT. :-O

The WHO just said they have no evidence of COVID-19 airborne transmission and they would look at any new evidence. That said, most experts outside the WHO doubt airborne transmission happens except in virus dense conditions like a hospital (this was already known).

It's true about hospitals these days, I spent a lot of time in Cedars Sinai with my mom and the air was so stuffy in there. I'd always come out with a respiratory infection and conjunctivitis, or a GI infection. I always wondered why there was no way to open the windows, the air inside was really unhealthy.

VIt d, sun, vit c, zinc, zinc ionophore. I have a deviated septum and got about 2 sinus infections a year. Then I started taking zinc and quercetin, haven't had a sinus or any could in 4 years. Even though people all around me get sick.

Windows are sealed shut in hospitals to prevent, for one thing, patients jumping out of windows. Believe it or not, this has happened in the past. The first hospital I worked in, Duke University Medical Center, had outdoor balconies for staff to bring patients outdoors for fresh air. Very therapeutic!

Are there any studies where UV-C in closed recirculating systems has prevented transmission?

Difficult because the only places that have UV sterilisation in the Air Systems are some hospitals and Class 3 or higher biological research facilities. They have more direct problems.

My husband was an inventor years back. He was working on Ultra-violet lamps for commercial use. Yes, it does work...but there are safety factors involved. Hotels, public restrooms, clinic and hospitals were being considered by the FDA because of the trained personnel involved in its usage. However they turned down the use of this type of light for the average public. They felt there would be a liability factor to the manufacturer if someone was hurt. Now today anyone can buy one on Amazon. It is amazing how rules change on the whim of government organizations. Just ironic!

UVC light kills all viruses. The mechanism is very well understood as it directly affects the integrity of the viral DNA and RNA that all viruses have to have to be viruses. The key question is how we use that knowledge effectively. Using UV light for surface disinfection is effective but problematic as UV light harms people and so you can't just hang a UV light in a populated area, but say a public toilet could be closed regularly and irradiated.
Airborne sterilization is not as well understood nor often implemented. The design is simple on paper, effectively you need a closed off tube that has recirculating air being passed through it that is continually irradiated with UV light, either via the HVAC system or a separate recirculator fan.
The question then is what combination of recirculating air volume, size of sterilizer and power of UV light internally and in what sized room is this effective against Covid-19 and is it practical. Of course, if you believe there is no airborne transmission nobody is looking at it and so that is where we are. Some HVAC systems have UV sterilization, but that is often focused on stopping things like legionella that grow inside the HVAC system and not sterilizing the air if that makes sense. I think what is frustrating is that if airborne transmission was recognized sooner we could have had studies looking at the size and design of sterilizers and we could be close to mass production of some viable designs that can be placed in rooms the minimize this route of transmission.
Other well understood easy to mass manufacture technologies are air ionizers (note not ozone generators), that although look gimmicky when you first meet them actually do a good job of forcing particles out of the air. A high voltage potential ionizes nearby particles that are then attracted to grounded surfaces. It doesn't kill the virus or bacteria in the particle, just forces airborne particles to settle on a surface where hand washing and surface cleaning routines are now effective.
Reference on effectiveness of air ionizers for airborne virus transmission: "Ionizing air affects influenza virus infectivity and prevents airborne-transmission" www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4477231/ Has some evidence that this is effective, also can be used as a way to capture and indentify pathogens from the air.

If you want 99.9% safety against SARS-CoV 2, stay home.
    Easy isn't it?

My experience may be of interest.
The only illness I'm aware of having this year occurred as follows:
About a month ago I developed a persistent dry cough for several days. I then experienced painful intermittent intestinal cramps that got worse overnight. I phoned the NHS helpline and eventually spoke to a GP who diagnosed a norovirus infection ('gastric flu'). The cramps gradually diminished over the next few day and after a week I was back to normal. For two days. Then it started all over again, although with less severity. After another week I was back to normal again. At no stage did I have issues around breathing.
A number of factors led me to be sceptical about the norovirus diagnosis:
    The initial dry cough.
The absence of vomiting or diarrhoea (the defining symptoms of norovirus infection); in fact I had three to four days of constipation with each bout.
    'Recovery' followed by relapse.
Reports that some Covid-19 patients experienced abdominal pain.
Last week I paid for an antibody test that yielded a positive result.

My friend had vomiting and diarrhoea early in the year. She also lost her taste and smell and was so fatigued she couldn't stand. Said she had never had anything like it. I suspect she might have had Covid 19 and not a norovirus infection. She now wants to take an antibody test.
