There was a similar plane spawn camp in Battlefield Vietnam. The Khe Sanh map had a US base, I used to hide behind a fence at the runway and RPG the Phantom jets as they spawned. Was also able to camp at the far end of the runway and destroy the planes with a mortar.

If you hit the conversion bottom then double swap weapons you dont need to wait for the animation on the m1903. you can basically use it as a bolt action then quick swap to use the semi auto as a side arm if you get it down

Make use of the combat medic perk set to get the increased melee range, and sprint speed at low health. It helps a lot.
