RED VELVET ROSE (Sections 1 and 2) - How To Crochet a Stunning and Elegant Shawl / Wrap

  • Hey, beautiful soul!
We have a demo for you today on how to work sections 1 and 2 of our Red Velvet Rose crochet wrap / shawl pattern. This has long been one of my most popular designs!
You can find this series of videos here: • RED VELVET ROSE (Secti...
    Pattern: www.expression...
•An intermediate pattern for those comfortable with crochet. If you're familiar with following patterns, you'll be fine! Nothing too complex here.
•This is a gorgeous, softly-flaring rectangular wrap for use anytime! Toss on for a fancy dinner or while curled up on the couch reading a good book.
•Fun to crochet! You won't get bored because the pattern changes as you work it. There are a total of 4 sections, each different. They start off dense and open up like blossoming flowers as you crochet, resulting in a lovely lacy look.
•You can technically stop at any point if you want a thinner shawl, so having enough yarn isn't make-or-break to this pattern.
•Ideal for solid or tonal yarns, but use any colorway that you love, even variegated.
•You'll need a size H (5.00 mm) hook. You'll want to be comfortable with single, double, double triple and triple crochets, as well as chaining and slip stitching.
    Pattern: www.expression...
    Yarn: www.expression...
We used Red Velvet Rose colorway - 5 skeins, but any shade will do if that one is out of stock.
Oh have a delightful day!!! I shall talk to you soon!

THIS PATTERN IS A 8+3 , not 4+3. You must do 8 + 3 to get section 2 to work. I started with 187 and section 2 was off. I had to start all over. This is a beautiful pattern. I could not afford this yarn but Caron simply soft with the sheen is a nice substitute. You will need to block it at the end. Thank you so much for this fabulous pattern. If you are like me and get bored half through your projects this one will keep you interested due to all the pattern changes. Love, love, love!!!

I did 191 stitches to add a few extra inches to it. It came out lovely but I Did use a size K hook ( I crochet tight) and went with red heart super soft. If I was going to use Caron simply soft I would use an I hook and add 16 mores stitches to the 191. I think it came out to 60 inches at the top but the lace part “ flares out” so that does add length. Hope this answers your question:)

    • @ruthannklos9649
      @ruthannklos9649 4 ปีที่แล้ว

You said you started with 191 stitches to make it a little bit longer. Do you know how many double crochet stiches you had at the end... l like to start with dc foundation stitches. 😉

I too always just work into the space of the last stitch instead of the top. That's the way I was taught to do it way back in the 70s, and there's also less chance of that stitch pulling out of shape. To me, its just a more secure way to end the row. But as in all art forms, to each his own! Love this shawl. Love the color!

    • @ExpressionFiberArts

Yes you can! You'll want to chain more stitches to get the same width. The sample in worsted weight chains 183 in the beginning for 49". The repeat is a multiple of 4+3 so you'd check how many chains you'll end up with to reach about 49".

I am making this shawl now. On the 2nd section.....using a browns/blue/ black verigated roving yarn. I’m not as good at crochet as you, but it’s looking good so far. 😀. I love watching you Chandi.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I started crocheting it but when it comes to changing to the next sections, I didn't really understand the written instructions. Although I did finish the shawl, I'm sure I made mistakes whenever I had to change to the different patterns in the sections. Looking forward to the 4 th section as well, as I want to crochet another one. Love this pattern.

Thank you beautiful. You look so cool in your wrap I just had to make one. Not for myself but for my daughter. Now I'm in the process of making this wrap. A few questions. In the gorgeous picture of you with this wrap, Section 2 only has 7 dc4 rows and you tell us verbally to make 12. Saying after completing rows 1 +2 twice, 5 more times after your visual equals 12 maybe even 14. Section 2 spacer row the last part is different chaining into a chain 2 space that is not mentioned in the original example. I guess I'll just wing it.

Yes, correct - just work the pattern as written and it will look like the one shown. Sorry for any confusion.

      Hi Swati,
thank you for your question. I'm happy to help!
For the Red Velvet sample we chained 183 stitches. I hope this answers your question.
      Have a great day! 🥰

Have a question. Does the 180 sts of this shawl include the chain at the beginning? Also most rows yo u say to skip the first stitch except section 2 row 3 I believe. I'm having problems lining up the rows.

I have had to restart this so many times because my rows aren’t lining up. I am moving so slow now and I keep a stitch marker ever 20-40 stitches to try to keep track and I’m still ending up goofed up… today I took the whole thing apart and I’m starting completely over……..
