Greg Michaels No, I'm aware of that, I was a member of that following, but some would argue it is not as renowned as say game of thrones. I love equally though.
TheMadThresher Yes I agree with you 100%. I love them both the same like you, Game of Thrones does have a larger following, but Spartacus was very big too.
When someone says Andy was a good actor or a handome man, etc I always remember Spartacus words about Varro after his death when Doctore tells him that Varro left this world a gladiator and shall be remembered as such, and he replies sth like, " No. He will be remembered as a husband. A father. A friend amongst enemies". Such strong words! And that's how Andy shall always be remembered, besides a great actor he was a magnificent person, and that's above all other things
When i first saw that fight scene between Spartacus and Varro - i was in some kind of a dark shock for two weeks. I watched Spartacus dozens of times since then, but i always skip that episode's finale, right after Andy gains the upper hand. This was such a crushingly dramatic scene...
Still after 9 years whenever I watch an episode of Spartacus it takes me so harshly knowing he's gone. He was so amazing in every way. It is an absolute heartbreak!
I really like how he addressed Andy Whitfield's children very early in the interview, making sure to leave them with a special thought about their father. But he also showed respect to Liam for taking on the difficult challenge of doing justice to the character. You could tell that the people involved in this series mean a lot to him. Great stuff.
Honey Boo boo Thanks for the answer, I remembered. I think she wasn't the right woman for Crixus, she was only whining and crying... Doesn't matter how you call her (Navia, Nevia or Naevia), for me she was domina's slave.
Andy Whitfield was the heart of the show. Sorely missed by all his fans. Liam did as good a job as any actor could do replacing the role of Spartacus, but there was no replacing Andy. He was unique and no one could be him in that role. I really wish we'd of had one more season between Vengeance and War of the Damned, where they freed the villages and grew into an army. I am glad for the prequel though as we might not of had Gannicus in the show.
Gannicus (Dustin Clare) was a great character. He masterfully managed to combine being ultra tough and deadly with being vulnerable and at the mercy of the fickle fate. And he had the most badass one-liners. Gods of the Arena was terrific. Too bad this actor didn't do much else. And we got to register Batiatus as a "likeable villain".
@You hate Facts :D Well, Gannicus' best lines are in the Gods of the Arena. Especially the two that he delivers to before and after his blindfolded fight. (i stopped counting how many times i quoted the first one) Even though he does continue to be a total badass in the subsequent seasons. "...I am the will of Marcus Crassus..." Gannicus: "...and who are you..." (LOL) By the way, my band and i wrote and recorded a song for Spartacus, and dedicated it to Andy Whitfield and all the heroes of the ancient world. If you like traditional metal... th-cam.com/video/RiiMVHNfh9c/w-d-xo.html
Not just outside this show. Every other movie/series too. He seems to have his movie voice and his real-life voice as two completely different things. Some actors do that.
Manu Bennett and Jai Courtney's careers have ascended greatly after the Spartacus franchise and rightfully so. They earned their roles and I respect that. Andy Whitfield probably would have been an avenger if he were still with us. His roll as Spartacus helped give me confidence in my high school years. I owe many of my habits to this man and will always cherish them. I wish your wife and children the best Andy. RIP brother.
Andy was an incredible actor. He was actually at the beginning of his career and died so young...man, we lost what could have been one of the best actors of our time, I'm not even joking.
You're right, Andy's voice held so much strength. That's what stood out his voice and ability to draw your attention. Really miss him and would've love to see where he'd be today.
Well 99% of the time whoever plays the character 1st are who people say are the best and sometimes they are, though it is subjective. People tend to not really give anyone else a chance because they are use to seeing someone else protray the character first. It is human nature and all do this.

manu bennett is the only one in the series that lasted all 4 season of spartacus and being in the series actually he was one of my favorites and still is!!
bibbyshibby his a beast I agree he was always a character I wanted to see in all of Spartacus sad that little pussy boy of craxus killed him In a cowardly way!!!
The Starz 'Spartacus' series was fabulous in its '300' style of comic book sex and violence portrayal. What is often overlooked though is how wonderful love was portrayed in the series too, especially the love of Crixus and Navea. It rounded out his character and showed more of what Manu Bennett is capable of as an actor. The same can be said of all the love scenarios in this series, Peter Mensa in 'Gods Of The Arena' stands out in my memory, in fact all of the love was portrayed tenderly and with passion that was the perfect balance needed in a series such as this. Timeless stuff!
Manu you are a good man and a great actors. you have a tendency to always think of others ..i am glad that you made it to the red carpet, wish you much sucess in your future and hope to see more of you in the movies!

having watched the first season knowing of Andy Whitfield's death is heart breaking. Seeing him alive and so full of life to be taken away by cancer within such a short time is mind boggling. My heart goes out to his wife and young family. Your loss is unbearable. By our gain is watching such a fine young man act and become part of our hearts as Spartacus. I'm so sad of his untimely demise. My heart goes out to his family and I thank you for sharing your talent as an actor. Forever in our hearts. Such a sad sad sad loss. :(
Wow! I had no idea Stephen Ammel auditioned for Spartacus. So glad he didn't get it. I have nothing against Liam McIntyre. Don't really know his work but Spartacus Season 2 was TORTURE for me coz I just couldn't see anyone but Any Whitfield as Spartacus. Even today, when someone says Spartacus, for me it's always (and forever will be) Andy Whitfield. What a way to go! Eyes still well up when I think of how young, fit, talented he was. He was a great father from what I read and felt. On a happy note, great to see Manu as Slade in Arrow. Just love it! Arrow and Stephen Ammel as Oliver Queen is just so perfect! East Indian proverb "waqt se pehle, aur kismet se ziada kissi ko nahi milta" never ceases to amaze me! RIP Andy!
Aahh, Andy. If only you could Be Here Now. I think you would have felt Liam did you proud though, when he picked up your mantle. And Manu...you are truly gifted, whether as a gladiator from the past, as a part of a fantasy world, or in the universe of comics on television! Now, I think I have to go binge-watch Spartacus ... again.
Manu Bennett really showed a huge range of acting with Crixus. All of the characters grew over the series. I think his was shown the most. In season 1 him just seemed like a brute, Then the Navia arch comes in and you see his humanity. Then his backstory in God's of the Arena. Where he has to learn quickly. Season 3 you see his passion and leadership. In Season 4 when he says goodbye to Spartacus he gives a brilliant speech. It apposes the rights of all humanity to be free.
RIP Andy Tu nous manque tous, thanks for your great performance, you was such amazing great actor and courage to your familly until you get reunited one day.
Andy. I miss you so much. You were such a amazing actor and great human being and your light just shined to bright for this world, so God brought you to heaven to entertain Him.

not sure being interviewed by PacificRimVideos can be called spotlight, but still good human, RIP Andy

RIP Andy!
Manu is such a cool dude. U can tell he love what he do and is fascinated wit these projects
Andy Whitfield was the man for me to watch R.I.P
The series wasn’t the same without Andy... he legit owned that role!
I agree. I was so bummed and bailed after the first episode with the new Spartacus actor.
I did the exact same was like watching a different show
Andy Whitfield was an incredible actor. His portrayal of Spartacus was simply stunning. An awesome actor and human being. We miss him
Aahh, Andy. If only you could Be Here Now. I think you would have felt Liam did you proud though, when he picked up your mantle. And Manu...you are truly gifted, whether as a gladiator from the past, as a part of a fantasy world, or in the universe of comics on television! Now, I think I have to go binge-watch Spartacus ... again.
andy rose the bar so high that liam needed a full season to catch up a little. but still performed very well
Manu Bennett really showed a huge range of acting with Crixus. It apposes the rights of all humanity to be free.
i love to see actors in real form. his voice demeanor is so different! love him!
I have massive amounts of respect for Manu. Seems like a really a humble and nice guy.

I cried when I heard of Andy’s death. I still find it hard to believe someone so talented in film could be gone so early.
