Roddy Doyle reads from The Women Behind the Door in Kennys Bookshop, September 2024

Booker Prize winning author Roddy Doyle reads an extract from his thirteenth novel, The Women Behind the Door during a conversation event celebrating its launch in Kennys Bookshop.
This new book reintroduces us to Paula Spencer, who we first met in Doyle's book The Woman Who Walked into Doors in 1996 and again in his 2006 novel, Paula Spencer. Note that this book can very much be read as a stand alone novel! We meet Paula now as she is in her sixties and grappling with life as a widow post an abusive relationship, with her kids grown up. Her daughter Nicola knocks on the door one day and Doyle explores the mother daughter relationship so well, and how people deal with trauma, years on.
