- Hello everyone again here’s another bus ride here at London Walthamstow station, it’s supposed to be Route 33 bus but I ride it before and is a small bus also it takes more than one hour to get to destination and way way out of London I don’t know if you know this place, Lonsdale Road To Fulwell near Twickenham. That’s way we are here at Walthamstow station riding route 34.

A BIT OF HISTORY ROUTE 34:
Route 34 commenced operation on 3 October 1934 between Stratford Broadway and Whetstone The Griffin via Maryland-Crownfield Road-Leyton high road-Bakers Arms-Crooked Billet-North Circular Road-Edmonton-Palmers Green-Arnos Grove-New Southgate-Oakleigh Road. The route was initially operated by London Transport from their Palmers Green (AD)and Leyton (T)garage using AEC Renown’s.The route was re-numbering of route 604.
On 17 February 1937, the route was withdrawn between Leyton Green and Stratford.
On 6 October 1937, the route was extended in Whetstone from The Griffin to Black Bull and the AEC Regents STs were replaced by AEC Regent.
On January 1938, the route was converted to full AEC Regent operation.On 1 June 1938, AEC Renown’s were introduced. On 12 October 1938, part of the allocation was transferred to Tottenham (AR) garage.On 7 June 1939, the Tottenham (AR) allocation was transferred to Enfield (E) garage
On November 1939, the route was withdrawn between Crooked Billet and Leyton Green. On 15 May 1940,On 3 January 1951, the AEC Regents were replaced by Leyland Titan RTLs.On 6 May 1953, the route was extended from New Barnet Station to Chesterfield Road replacing withdrawn route 207. The Leyland Titan RTLs were replaced by AEC Regent I I I RTs at same time. On 17 October 1956, the Sunday service was withdrawn between ‘Palmers Green and Walthamstow, this section was replaced by route 84. On 26 November 1958, the Sunday service was withdrawn. The section between Chesterfield Road and Whetstone was replaced by new route 134A and the remainder of the route was replaced by Route 84.On 27 April 1960, the route was extended from Walthamstow to Leyton as part of the Trolleybus Replacement Program and part of the allocation was transferred to Leyton (T) garage. On 12 October 1960, the Saturday service was withdrawn between Leyton Green and Downsell Road.On 10 October 1962, the Saturday service was re-introduced between Leyton Green and Downsell Road. On 29 January 1964, the Leyton (T) allocation was transferred to Walthamstow (WW) garage. On 1 July 1964, the route was withdrawn between New Barnet was Chesterfield Road,this section was replaced by new route 261 and the Saturday service was withdrawn between Leyton Green and Downsell Road. On 3 October 1965, the Walthamstow (WW) allocation was transferred to Palmers Green (AD) garage. On 23 August 1969, a Sunday service was introduced between Barnet Church and Walthamstow Central replacing withdrawn section of route 84 and was extended daily from New Barnet to Barnet Church.On 10 September 1977, the Monday to Friday service was withdrawn between Green Man Harrow Green except for odd journeys and further withdrawn outside Monday to Friday peaks between Whipps Cross and Green Man but the weekend service was extended to Whipps Cross.At the same time, the route was converted to one person operation using Daimler Fleetlines. On 19 September 1981, the Daimler Fleetlines were replaced by MCW Metrobuses and Leyland Titans. On 21 July 1990, part of the allocation was transferred to Woodgreen (WN)garage. On 9 December 2023, the Edmonton (EC)allocation was withdrawn.(1) At the same time, frequency decreased from every 8 minutes to every 10 minutes,the PVR decreased from 22 to 18 and the route was also revised to terminate on Selborne Walk instead of Walthamstow Bus Station. On 9 November 2024, the route was retained by Arriva London. Brand New BYD BD11s will be introduced from 2025. The 24-hour weekend night service will be reintroduced from TBC.
