Finally.... a new hardest at last! Crimson Planet is a level I've had my eyes on for a really long time now, and I don't know why but I just decided on a whim to actually go for this level after getting 52-100 for fun. 2 completion bias aside, this level is actually incredibly well made. The song is intense, and the gameplay matches it very well! The gameplay manages to be super intense and hard without being too much to handle, or too unbalanced. I was surprisingly having a blast with this level, getting 2 new best flukes (39%-52% and 52%-70%). Even after getting 70 the level was still going super smoothly, which never happens when I get 70%+ new bests on extremes. Whether fortunately or unfortunately, 2.2 did drop a bit after I got 70 on this and to my surprise the level actually felt a little easier due to wave being a little less delayed. Everything was going so so swell, and I was getting ready to beat it within days at most. That is, until absolute atrocity struck. Since startpos switcher wasn't available when 2.2 dropped I decided to play in practice mode to warm up and make sure I was good at everything. That is when, by pure mistake and nothing else I actually did 0.67-100%. This run came out of nowhere and absolutely surprised the fuck out of me. Despite already doing a run like this on another level (aftermath type beat), I was still surprised to see that it was actually able to happen again. Immediately after getting this run, I started performing horribly. It went from easily one of the smoothest and best experiences not just with a new hardest, but extreme in general, to an absolute disaster much akin to all my other list demon experiences. I thought this would be different, but time and time again it is proven to me that I am predisposed to very specific experiences with every extreme demon, no matter my skill level and confidence. This run shattered all my consistency with the level, and despite even getting 14-100% the day after, I still couldn't get anywhere no matter how hard I tried. Day after day, grinding attempts for nothing. What could've been the worlds first extreme demon completion of 2.2 (which by extension would've made it the first list demon and main list completion), turned into an absolute nightmare of an experience, and one that through hindsight I'm not at all surprised ended up happening to me. Eventually though, on the 23rd I decided I might actually be able to beat it, and from around 9pm to 2am I grinded the level out, ignoring all urges to say fuck it and get off the game. That is when I actually pulled the completion out of my ass only around 15-20 minutes after getting 79%. Throughout this entire experience I've had to deal with searing neck and upper back pain due to shitty, old desk chairs offering little to zero support for my body. This made the experience so much worse, and harder to sit through (lmao).
I would like to extend a thanks to "insert cringe" (otherwise known as "JesusGMD") who I talked to about my Crimson Planet experience for basically the entire way through. He offered useful advice, and wise words about the level and experience to me and I appreciate that greatly.
