Meridian, Idaho has been voted as one of the best places to live in the country. Which area do you think you would like best - South (a more peaceful area and good freeway access), North (closer to Eagle and recreation), or Central (right in the middle of it all)?
Good observation. A drive through the neighborhoods will demonstrate which are more owner-occupied and give you a greater or lesser flavor of South County O.C.
I think some bloggers here are exaggerating to stop people from moving here. It's a great place, no religious craziness, no one keeps tabs on who goes to church, lots of churches to choose from if you are so inclined. The Village at Meridian is spectacular, activities are all over the place and it's clean. Most neighborhoods are kept up well and people are friendly and nice. The only downside is that it is large and spread out. I'm considering Eagle in the future only because it feels smaller and cozier.
I appreciate your honest comment. I agree. There are some weird misconceptions going around, maybe based on someone's personal experience with one crazy neighbor, but that doesn't make it true for everyone. Meridian is spread out and large, and Eagle does make a nice community when you are looking for something smaller, plus, it's only like 15 minutes from Meridian shopping when you need it.
What an incredibly informative video! My wife and I are looking to relocate and are considering the Meridian/Eagle area as an option. This video really helped breakdown for us potential areas of Meridian to consider based on our specific needs. Thanks.
For me and my family, Meridian was a nightmare. In fact we were essentially run out of town. The neighborhood was really nice. Great houses, friendly folks and schools close by. Our kids loved it and made friends their age: middle school and high school. A couple years after moving there the trouble started. Our kids had great friends and spent a lot of time at our house hanging out and occasionally emptying the fridge. By then we'd met some of their parents and were having a great time. Without warning, some of the parents started giving us the cold shoulder and some of them were getting angry at the sight of us. Word finally reached us through the kids; our family did not attend any church. Our car was the only one in the driveway on Sunday. We were immediately judged and some of the kids friends disappeared. We were accused of everything from drug dealing to breaking into houses. We ended up moving after both kids graduated high school because the pressure went to infinity after two of the banished kids got addicted to opioids. It was our fault because we weren't religious. There is a long list of other pressures that led us to quit our jobs, sell the house and move out of Idaho.
After reading your post I kind of got the feeling I think you might have been the problem. Who cares if some Bible thumpers didn't want anything to do with you. And why did problems go to infinity because a couple of their kids got hooked on some drugs after the fact? really has nothing to do with you I would imagine, unless you are a drug dealer and gave the kids opioids lol . And parents that make false claims about you whether it's your drug dealer or a crackhead or whatever who cares why would you associate with them any longer ... But regardless happy trails
We moved from Meridian (the working class part of Spurwing you chose to over look) to the foothills 15 months ago. We were not at all jazzed about all the commercial development and road construction. Meridian is being uncontrollably overbuilt. The previous Mayor and her crew never met a development they didn’t like. Pretty much rubber stamped everything. Too many apartments being built because so many locals can’t afford homes here anymore. And it’s growing so fast because they’re bulldozing all the farmland to build houses for all the people fleeing the left coast. Eagle Road is packed all the time with people rushing from one stop light to the next. Seems to take forever now to get from State Street to I84 via Eagle Road. Fairview is the same. And wait until they start widening Linder Road. It will be a nightmare. In general, the entire road system is not built for this explosive growth. You paint a roses 🌹 picture but anyone moving to this area should do their homework.
Thanks for watching and for your insight..and I agree, anyone moving here needs to visit and drive around and see for themselves. Which they usually do. And it is always about personal perspective based on one's past experiences. That is why I try to just show the viewers areas of town (and I don't choose to leave areas out, if they are left out, it is because I only have so much time to get video footage and can't video it all), tell them where things are, and give them an overall gist. For people who have lived here their whole life, they perceive the traffic issues and growth in the light that you do. But for many people, when they come to visit and do their homework, the traffic and growth here is so much less, and so much better than what they are used to, they love it. In fact, many people I help move here don't want to be "out" in the foothills because they are coming from places where they are used to Costco and Trader Joe's being 5 minutes away. So...I do my best to show the area like it is and let the viewers make their own decisions on what they like/don't like when they come for a visit.

Thank you for this video. We’re wanting to move to Idaho and this helps us to choose which area. I think I’d go got north Meridian. Congestion is an issue as too much population growth and roads can’t accommodate it until modified. How about Star and Eagle?
The East side of Eagle generally has less congestion because they are not building new homes there. The West side of Eagle and Star have all the new homes for that area, so there are some backroads you can take, but the main road from Eagle to Star is getting widened right now but will still bottleneck in downtown Star. Thank you for watching and commenting! Meridian does have many two lane roads across town still, but, they have more 4 lane roads in a grid pattern than any other city in the area, and there is road construction all over as they continue to widen those 2 land roads to 4. The public bus system in Meridian is severely lacking, but the city says they are working on plans to fix that. And yes, as you say, no real cabs to speak of. Meridian is a large city for Idaho but small compared to other cities in the west, and most people own their own cars and,as of yet, there is not really a demand for cabs, and if they need an occassional ride, seem to prefer something like Uber. And yes, Eagle road does have the most traffic in the whole state of Idaho.
Let's talk about how our schools are so polished with drugs and everyone moving around this area in general is making traffic so much worce and is part of the reason why houses and everything in general is so expensive mostly houses
Meridian is a suburban community. It's primarily comprised of young families and is geared towards family life. There are more and better jobs here than a handful of years ago -- rivalling Boise. There are services of all kinds readily available, as well as a multitude of shops and eateries, theaters, parks, public, charter, and private schools, as well as churches. The priciest subdivisions are more akin to the nicer homes in Eagle, and Meridian is located in closer proximity to freeway access, shopping, and Boise's dining, entertainment, and the airport (yet far enough away to not suffer from the noise and air pollution). Investors recognize the value of homes here, and subdivisions with a higher percentage of renter-occupied homes can be less pleasant, more densely populated, and not as well-maintained. No different than elsewhere. You'll know when you drive through and walk through the neighborhoods and will get an idea of which subdivisions are a good fit for your personal preferences. Most of the people are nice. You'll get better acquainted with neighbors and fit in more readily if you're married with school age children, but Meridian is still a good choice for singles and couples that are looking for a nice place to live. In general, neighbors are polite but not especially friendly or neighborly, unless and until you've made a connection.
We have the Boise Town Square Mall. It is the only mall in the area, and one of only a few malls in the whole state :). But it does have some nice stores. Don't expect it to be like South Coast Plaza in Orange County, though, but it is nice and has plenty to offer. The Village is also the only outdoor shopping mall in the entire state.
Yes the golf country club in Meridian is called Spurwing. I think it’s in the video. Home prices there range from about $800k for the section of smaller homes on small lots up to over $3million for the estates on large lots on the rim. All areas of meridian are fine- just depends on what you like. I tried to show the differences of the areas in the video. South meridian has lots of new homes and is closer to freeway access, middle Meridian has mostly more established neighborhoods with trees and closer access to parks and shopping but it is in the middle of everything, and north meridian is closer to eagle, the river, a mix of newer and older homes.. I have a video all about the weather in boise you can check out. (It’s the same weather in meridian). Avg summer temps are about 80-95 in July, 80-105 in august, back to 70s by end of September. June is a wild card, could be 60, could be 95.

Hi Summer! It seems like prices haven't been going up over the past couple of months. Have you noticed the same thing? Also, so you think the housing market is on the brink of going down in price?
Yes, in general, the prices haven't been rising as rapidly because we don't have as many multiple offers driving up prices. We have more inventory (still historically low). We are seeing the beginning of a fluctuation pattern as things adjust. Homes that are overpriced and not showing well are coming down in price while homes that are underpriced and show very well are still getting multiple offers. Some of the builders are having price reductions on new homes because there is great hesitancy for many people to get into a build job right now with shortages of labor and supplies causing all kinds or problems. The demand here has lessened a bit as fears from last years elections eased somewhat, and homes have gotten to the price point that many people who were considering moving here are now considering less expensive markets. BUT- our market is highly dependent on what is happening politically in other states. If the governor of CA, makes it through the recall and stays in office, I expect another huge influx of people here. That takes place in the middle of September, so we will see what happens. Also, we still have quite a few people moving here from OR and WA as they are unhappy with the politics there.
