This franchise was the first book/movie/tv show to make me cry. To this day, I've only cried during the ATLA finale, Service and Sacrifice (I fucking lost it when Tenzin took off Jinora's hood) scene, and the TLOK finale. Hell, I didn't even get misty eyed when Iron Man died in Endgame! So the fact that just listening to "Peace" or "The Legend of Korra" (final scene, final song) can make me cry on command should be a testimony to how great this universe and its characters are.

@Donald Hariot I can somewhat agree with that; however (this is mostly my opinion), good "kid shows" are a bit hard to come by. And the same thing applies to some mainstream shows since I feel most shows nowadays are a bit bland when it comes to writing... like:
"this villain has a predictable character arch and the storyline is extremely bland and basic", which sums up most Netflix series and movies for the most part.
Like I said though, this is my opinion, and I probably feel this way to most shows because I grew up with shows and movies that have in-depth world building or character archs n' all.
And I'm sure there's good shows/films out there as well, they're just not as popular as mainstream ones.

I feel like most people don't give Korra enough credit:
Learning energybending from Aang, which is a skill that hasn't been lost since her connections were destroyed, and restored all the bending of those affected by Amon
Survived after having Raava ripped out of her, defeating unalaq and restoring the Avatar Cycle
While also restoring the connections between humankind and spirits
Restoring the Air nation, and surviving poisoning of a ridiculous quantity
And lastly, overcoming her past and her fears to stop Kuvira, while also saving her and opening a spirit portal
Korra was an amazing Avatar, what Tenzin said at the end of the animated series was true, she changed the world more then Avatars did during their lifetime.
EDIT: Thanks for the likes! Im honored to have a lot on one the greatest OST videos out there ❤️

Deep down I don't think the past lives of the Avatar are truly destroyed - they're just dormant. It was the connection that was destroyed - not the actual past avatar's spirits. Perhaps the next Avatar will re-connect themselves with them.

I love how this music is shown several times in Book 4. First, it appears in Korra Alone, when a spirit leads Korra to the Spirit Woods and Toph. Then, when Toph helps Korra get rid of her remaining poison. Next, when Korra allows Zaheer to lead her into the Spirit World, and finally, when she saves Kuvira by spliting the spirit beam, and later confronts her. It's also notable that it gets progressively longer each time. It's as if it shows her progressive psycological recovery, and the steps she takes for it. Finding a mentor, releasing her fear, confronting her former enemy, and helping her new enemy. It's the little things, ladies and gentlemen, that make this series so great.

    • @Frizzleman
      @Frizzleman ปีที่แล้ว +1

I definitely feel like the music itself also supports that. The early track is very heroic but sad and still bombastic but it slows down and gets really hopeful and bright and then slowly comes back down. Right near the end it gets almost sad again but then it gives you this beautiful harmonic chord and the track picks up again and ends light and bright but still melancholic hand retrospective. I love this music so much

I don't think any sequel ever lives up to the original series because of the emotional attachment to the original series, but LoK was still a pretty damn good show which covered LGBT representation and deeper issues as well, even if some of the writing was poor but that's to be blamed on Nickolodean, not the writers. He totally changed his mind ...like Zuko did aswell... and Aang contradicting all his past Avatars to fight the firelord without killing him.

I don't care what the haters say about Legend of Korra.
Yeah sure it's not like the original Avatar the Last Airbender. Well here's the thing it's not suppose to be like ATLA. Its a continuation of the story and things are going to change, the some of the original characters aren't going to be in series anymore because years passed. And Aang... well come on once the avatar dies the next one will be born.
Both shows had their own mistakes and cringy moments and their badass scenes. And each character get their own backstory and development.
I love the original ATLA and it will be my top favorite in Nickelodeon shows, but LOK is great as well :)

I don't mind it's different, it would be lame if it wasn't in some way unique and new.
But I do have some serious problems with how they approached the series, specifically with how they wrote Korra and some of the changes in the art style, along with some of the retcons that ruin part of the mystery for the original series.
Korra is a good show, I won't deny it didn't have great and memorable moments, and I can see why people who grew up with it would love it just as much as I love Avatar... but it's just not as good, and not only is it an objective downgrade in terms of character development and world design, but it also pisses on the legacy of ATLA and Aang as a character.
No matter what they write into the comics, Aang will always die at 65, he will always be remembered as a poor father, Wan will always have been a thieving little shit, and Korra will always be the cocky arrogant idiot that always got her way.

ATLA and LOK aren't even in the same universe. In ATLA, the avatar state comes from the experience of all your past lives. In LOK, they introduce Raava for the first time and losing her past lives makes no difference, so it means that the avatar state is not being able to access others' experiences, it is Raava power. The first bending teachers, were they lion turtles, or the moon, dragons, badgermoles, and flying bison? In ATLA, the avatar state is overpowered and whole armies can't beat it when the avatar is mature and ready. In LOK, lots of people can beat it. In ATLA, the bending was tied to martial arts, in LOK, a punch will do for any element. In ATLA, being able to bend well was connected to your inner being. As an example, in ATLA, lightning bending was a high art that required peace of mind, and Zuko could not bend lightning because of his inner turmoil. But in LOK, lightning bending becomes so mundane that it becomes a factory job. So I can objectively reject LOK as a legitimate sequel due to its inconsistencies.

Oh my God, I asked Jeremy to release this track in a comment on his Soundcloud! I know that he surely didn't release it because of me (that would be silly to think), but I still didn't think that he would've released anything like this! I'M SO HAPPY.

Korra's mental struggles seemed to occur at the same time as my own. I connect with her so deeply because of this. And just her personality in general. I was watching her fight herself in Book 4 around the same time my depression was just beginning to come upon me. I became obsessed with the episodes where Korra was haunted by her Avatar state self (from when she was poisoned and fighting Zaheer) because I was so troubled and was seeking something or someone to relate to. While I wasn't shadowed by another version of myself or experiencing psychosis and night terrors, I was still a scared child in a scary world,
and part of me sought to destroy itself and everything I hold dear, whilst I feared the impossible day and night.
^ Depression and anxiety. When you don't face much mental anguish in your life, your defenses against such things are weak, so I took the hits harder than I should've...

It's so painful especially when you realize how many traumatic experiences Korra's went through but still she needed to fulfill her duty, because everyone expects the Avatar to do so..
If we're able to sympathize with a 'fictional' character so much, we should also acknowledge, that what we watched was no ordinary show.
Avatar is so many things it's just... indescribable.

Never bothered to watch LoK before cuz of its bad rep. A year ago I felt so lost and depressed. I considered trying out this show for the heck of it.
1:40 - Korra fighting her fears
1:50 - Korra persevered and found herself again
It spoke to me… taught me all these lessons that we go through in life and to become stronger for it. I found this show when I needed it most and can say it’s one the best comfort shows for lost young adults out there

On the left, Aang. On the right, Korra. A 12 years old boy, and a 21 years old woman. A curious, full of life kid, and a energetic, confident adult. Both have been through the absolute worse. Both have lost many things. Aang had to fight his principles as a pacifist airbender, and Korra had to deal with anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder. Yet, both have shown amazing inspiring stories, full of meaning and adventures. They both have slowly discovered and understood the world around them, just to know how to keep peace and harmony.
And, after two great series, watching them standing right next to each other, "guarding" the horizon... Holy shit I wanna cry

This show taught that accepting who we are, and what we want, can help us achieve who we are meant to become. Zuko wanted his honor back, but only gained it once he came to an understanding of what he truly wanted. Some never take the time in this busy age to look at ourselves, to look at who we are, and if we are okay emotionally, maybe afraid of who we will find, but this intentional ignorance is the most damaging thing we can do to ourselves. or creating an imbalance. This is fixed by being merciful and humble, even to ourselves, and to let old wounds heal. We are not the sum of our failures, nor our successes, we are who we aim to become.
