4:04 It’s pretty cool how, despite it being basically impossible for anyone to realistically get 99 stars without TAS, that there’s a message saying that you have the max amount of stars. I figured it would still allow you to buy a star but the counter wouldn’t increase
When you code, it is important to secure every dumb way to achieve something like this. Imagine you get 100 stars and the game crashes, that would be a shame, especially on the time where games wouldn't have patches (aka Cartridges). As seen in the video (4:10) when a CPU gets to 99 stars, he cannot gain any more stars. But when he have enough money to steal a star, the code will try to steal, but fail because of the limit of 99 stars. Sure, something that is impossible would be a waste of time but what is impossible these days?
Really weird how the star cap is 999 in the GameCube games and nowhere else, makes you wonder if the devs actually thought you could reasonably get over 99 in a single game
3:52 oh man I have a funny story about this minigame. When my sister and I first played Mario Party 3 when we were 9, my sister landed and Game Guy and got Game Guy's Roulette. Game Guy asked if my sister wanted to know no the rules and she said "Nah." And I was like "wait, but you need to know how to play!" And my sister said "I'll figure it out." We were then on the roulette screen and we quickly realized that neither of us knew how to play and we panicked. My sister said "What do we do???" And I said, "This is why you should've read the rules!!" And my sister said, "These games are usually easy, I thought it'd be obvious!" And the timer was ticking down and we were panicking even more. So I said "pick the x 64! Bigger numbers are better right???" And my sister is like, "Are you sure? I don't think it'd be that straightforward!" And I'm like "There's 2 seconds left just do it!" So she bet on the x64 chance of it landing on Shy Guy, and we both watched it horror as Shy Guy put down a shell and spun it, and we realized we were actually betting on where it would land. My sister was like "This is your fault!" And I'm like "How was I supposed to know?! You're the one who skipped the rules!" But then our jaws both dropped as the shell finally stopped, on the sliver of the roulette that represented Shy Guy. And my sister maxed out at 999 coins and we had to sit there for a good couple minutes and watch each of those coins drop on Yoshi's head. We were both freaking out, I've never seen anyone win with those odds at Game Guy ever since 😆
I have a similar story. Someone was watching me play through Mario Party 3's story mode . I was down on my luck, and only had about 30 coins by the end of the game, so I landed on a Game Guy space, got Game Guy's Roulette, and bet on Shy Guy. What happened next would leave everyone in hysterics for the entire day.
Reminds me of Chuggaaconroy getting the x10 reward in Game Guy’s stair game twice in the same game (over two sessions). He was so rich that his total was still 999 when Bowser’s Communism happened next. He was “so rich that he broke Communism.”
While I do understand the disqualification of 9/10, I DO think a video going over how many mini stars you can rack up in each board in 9/10 could be cool, since that's a pretty interesting subject (even if they break the usual formula pretty badly)

The car mechanic is so interesting from a design perspective. I think it *could* work, but in 9 and 10 I don't think it *does* work, if that makes sense.
I'm harsh on it in the video but I don't think the car mechanic is inherently bad, it's just very different and makes it pretty weird and jarring if you've played any other Mario Party game.

Some may say the game feels slow, and doesn't have the same chaotic nature as other Mario Party games, but that feeling is amplified by the the final few turns having plenty opportunities to either grant you the win, or get completely screwed over.
