    Great work as usual! I'm not buying the Neca dio either, not just because of the price, but mostly because it wouldn't work in the space where I'm displaying my figures.

    The price tag might be fair if you were buying it from a person who made it to order specifically how you wanted it. This is a large toy company making these in a foreign country for pennies on the dollar labor costs combined with large volume material purchasing, again, in a much cheaper foreign market. You hit the nail on the head when you said it would cost $75 dollars, most people have knives, paintbrushes, glue etc... you don't need foam cutters, a dremel or wood burning kits to make it. And there was nothing involved that would be beyond the average person's abilities to make something very similar. $300 for a direct to consumer simple diorama design from a large toy company with established distribution and production capabilities is ridiculous. Not to mention that you have to buy an add-on accessory pack to even make it complete!

    • @dripmode
      @dripmode  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea but the outcome and passion is what drive those to built it themselves or just be a consumer and just get. That is the world we live it. In regards to a company making it , I’m not hating on what it would cost them, it’s still a blessing that a company is making a piece for our childhood classics. Consumers can be selfish and just think about getting a deal.
      And let’s be real, we spend more buying figures per month, so you can save 25 a month and pay it off in a year or 100 each month and pay it off in 3 months. It’s not that bad lol , but I wanna say thank you for the constructive conversation. It’s always good to have good dialogue with other collectors. And thank you for watching :) peace

NFT Walmart drop is a new idea that neca and the other companies are trying out, if you don’t like it , just don’t buy it, I don’t support NFT or digital collection cause it’s all bs unless if already comes with your purchase.

      As a counterbalance to this rant (without hate on those commenters I agree that the volume, wagepoint, molds and stuff will up their margin more than your layout of it. It's almost like they are running a business with business choices behind it for mainly their own gain, for a market of consumers way too eager to just buy every plastic brainfart with a pop culture license🙄. ) I really appreciated the way you gave an insight in these costs. Why are you not working for Hasbro? I suppose then your hobby would be your job and then you wouldn't have a hobby anymore, eh?
    But, you're talking about the cost of making versus buying and I'm thinking the whole time, nah, man. Because look at the experience you're gaining and the mental exercises you're doing PROBLEM SOLVING. It's math people. Finding solutions to problems to make them work, you don't get that by buying something. The fact of the matter is, not everyone can make something like this, it's not meant to be that way so if you can't it's no big deal, you're better at doing other kinds of things. The world doesn't need a plethora of surgeons and lawyers. The world doesn't need only architects and artists. Everyone has something they contribute others don't to keep balance, it was always intended that way, but this dudes got talent with art. In his mind it's easy, but it wasn't always easy, he had a basic foundation of talent that he worked on and developed that leveled up through time and he learns new techniques and finds new ways to solve problems given his talent and knowledge, plain and simple. Building dioramas isn't for everyone and can be frustrating and impossible because you're meant to do something else in another area you excel at.
    I like ya did the cartoonish look on purpose too. The signs I think you do better than just paper though but the wall poster and the scroll ya nailed. Super cool diorama in the end and good vid.
    By-the-way, totally up to you, but as a kid we called them toys. As an adult who collects, I think they've graduated to figures or action figures

I am glad i did watch this just for the brain refresher on the little tricks and tips. I always forget that primer, with mod podge, I can see the difference. I had to use a spray sealer as I noticed my model starting to have paint chips..I live by the beach so constant fog over night messed it up..The more you do the more issues you run into, but i love the process...thats what makes a tru artist...you gotta stick to it.. looking forward to the next video Drip!

  • @king_eternal
    @king_eternal ปีที่แล้ว +1

    IDK man, seeing an artist put a $ 25-an-hour price tag on a lifetime of skills acquired through experience hurts. You should definitely be charging more for labor considering dio making is YOUR craft. The average person won't have the skills, experience, or foresight to problem solve if something goes wrong like melting the foam lol. It's difficult to put a price on something like that.
    I also think that the bits and bobs you have lying around used for the lamp and other props were super creative but from a financial standpoint should have been more specific to the exact items one could buy. So if you got 10 buyers interested in acquiring your services after seeing this video, or someone at home is brave enough to replicate this price the materials would all be the same and the price would be reflected. I am also curious how much time was invested into locating picture and reference files as well as the time required to mod or alter them digitally. Sometimes it takes me hrs to find the right images since copyrights are on everything. Seems like what I find can't be saved and the images I can save are tiny and grainy. It's also a benefit to have a go-to spot that has stuff I've previously made mental notes about.
    In the end, financially speaking I think the average Joe would be better off buying the NECA and artists could really have a blast making their own. The most important element required you can't put a price tag on is having skills. With that said I always encourage others to try making things like this and you have made a very awesome piece!

    • @dripmode
      @dripmode  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for all the touch points and yes I’m estimating on the time cause you right about the researching and looking up or recreating the references. It the price of having passion over a creation. And yes collectors that don’t have the time or skill to try it would be better off buying it from neca and that was my point but people think it’s overpriced. Thank you for your feedback and your support :)

    Awesome build! Love the breakdown but you should factor in the fact that now you have those tools YOU CAN BUILD MORE! That is an investment and an awesome thing to have! I've been meaning to get a foam cutter like that! BTW why does it seem like you are whispering in the video? Like you can't talk at full volume? Love the video, and will be subscribing, keep it up

    I totally agree on what you were saying about keeping the NECA figures in line with the diorama 👍🏼

    Great work and thanks for the spotlight at the beginning! Those were all points I tried to highlight on the facebook groups upon the announcement of the price point. It's easily affordable to build your own, but it's still a lot of work and requires (if you want to do it well) quite a few tools to get it there.

    • @dripmode
      @dripmode  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem bro , you did a great job and us dio builder understand , consumers don’t and I get it with everything being so expensive now but still once you break it down …. You get more understanding . 😎👊🏼

      The points are irrelevant. If I go to Anthony customs and he tells me it will cost me 275 for a custom figure by him, should I start paying neca or hasbro 200 for their figures now?

    • @dripmode
      @dripmode  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sirmustardofhousemayonnais9907 neca hasbro and other toy company pays the sculptor a lot of money because the company is going to duplicate the master mold for mass production. That is why they can sell the toy for a affordability price like hasbro does, neca changes more cause they add more details like paint application and detail and accessories. That is not cheap, but you are just complaining instead of being grateful that at least these companies are making toys that we all want. Remember this hobby is a luxury and some of us really have passion for the craft and hobbies and we don’t do it for free.

    • @sirmustardofhousemayonnais9907
      @sirmustardofhousemayonnais9907 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dripmode you are brainless when it comes to business. What does a company paying a sculptor have anything to do with the customer? How is that comparable to paying a person to make a dio for 500 vs paying neca 300. You're ass backwards. Companies should be grateful that we have any interest in anything they are selling, not the other way around
