What a great scene this is! "Now you done it Mr. Hawk you've made Herbie very angry!" I get such a kick and a laugh out of Helen Hayes in this movie! So cute! Thanks again. :)
I've always loved this scene cause it was hilarious and grandma just goes freaking nuts. Seriously just put some horror music with some editing over the scene and then it turns into Christine
I don't know who was a better Disney villain, David Tomlinson, who was spectacular in Mary Poppins, and The Love Bug, or the Amazing Keenan Wynn as Alonzo Hawk in this movie and flubber. They're both terrific. I almost want to say Alonzo for his more aggressive temper, but David could get pretty heated as well.
Yeah i remember that Herbie hated David too like when Jim was leaving the car place when the guys were pushing him back to the shop. He wanted to get away from there and wanted to go home with Jim. Also at the race when he tired to go after him and his race car. We never want to piss off Herbie.
redmr2na they're both hilarious in there own way Tomlinson was hilarious because he had a scream that made the nostalgia critic jealous and an incredibly short temper But Wayans was amazing also because of his unbelievable short temper and his voice while not as over the top as Tomlinson is still hilarious Tough call but if you twisted my arm and force me to pick one I'd probably go with Tomlinson BUT Wayans would be in a very close second
@redmr2na There were other Herbie villains which are Max and Quincy from "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo" and Mr. Prindle, Mr. Quinn, and Mr. Shepherd from "Herbie Goes Bananas."
Yes, I guess as soon as Herbie was turned all the way around, the hidden string was removed before the people watching the film could see it. I agree, it is interesting to wonder how things were done, especially since when you see a movie that you enjoy, you start to think about the plot, characters, and the things going on in the film.
I think Tennessee Steinmetz from "The Love Bug" asked Jim Douglas (the owner of Herbie) if he can leave Herbie with his senior citizen aunt Mrs. Steinmetz for Herbie to take care of her which Jim said "yes." (The house Mrs. Steinmetz lives in used to be Tennessee Steinmetz house from the "The Love Bug" where Mrs. Steinmetz told Willoby Whitfield that her nephew Tennessee moved out of the house to live with his guru where Mrs. Steinmetz moved into his house).
THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!! Also, it actually fits this movie and the rest of the films in chronological order when you realize the context of each! The Love Bug (‘69) is of course the first in the timeline, and if Mrs. Steinmetz’s firehouse actually is the same house that Tennessee, Jim, Herbie and the gang all lived in in the first film, that makes sense why we see Herbie there in this film! It’s not just that Herbie is watching over a family member of one of his friends, it’s that her residence is actually the same place as the first film, plus it explains how Jim and Herbie are back together in the third film coming out of retirement! During the events of this film (or maybe in between this and Love Bug, or this and Monte Carlo, Jim met Wheely Applegate and hired him as his mechanic and most likely did a few races with him as part of his pit crew, with half of the races being with Herbie and the rest with other cars while Herbie was busy helping Mrs. Steinmetz and making new friends (not just human friends, but vehicle and machine friends: the decommissioned trolley car named Old 22, and that jukebox music machine, along with nearly every single VW Beetle in the area!) The placement of Rides Again, Monte Carlo, and Herbie the Love Bug TV Series (not the TV Movie remake, that 100% takes place after the 4 original movies) have always confused me when trying to apply a timeline to them. But it seems that it really is just as simple as the movies taking place in the order of their release! But hey…that’s just a theory! A HERBIE THEORY!!!
@@drewo.127 Yes, I would guess that Tennessee Steinmetz made agreements with Jim to have Herbie take care of Mrs. Steinmetz and Mrs. Steinmetz also mentioned that Jim was starring on other races in foreign countries without Herbie. Regarding Wheely Applegate, I was confused as to why he was used as Jim's assistant when it could have been Tennessee as the assistant even though it was mentioned by Mrs. Steinmetz that Tennessee moved away with his guru but, he could come back to star with Jim. The only other thing that didn't make sense that is Jim married Carole Bennett after "The Love Bug" and on "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo", Jim was dating Diane Darcy without an explanation on whatever happened to him and Carole. The only other thing that didn't make sense is that, out of all the four Herbie movies, the first three ended with a marriage or love interest scene but, the movie "Herbie Goes Bananas" didn't have either one but only ended with Pete, DJ, Aunt Louise, and Melissa having a toast wishing Herbie Good Luck in winning the race with Paco as the driver.
Fun Fact: 1974 seems to be the year of the car phone as one is seen in several memorable films released that year. That I know of a car phone appears (and is used) in: Herbie Rides Again Gone In 60 Seconds Earthquake! I guess they were either common or it was a sign of product placement run amok,
One other thing. I guess out of all the bad guys Herbie battled which were David Thorndyke and Havershaw (The Love Bug), Alonzo Hawk (Herbie Rides Again), Max and Quincey (Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo), Mr. Prindle, Mr. Shepherd, and Mr. Quinn (Herbie Goes Bananas) that Alonzo Hawk was the worst since he destroyed millions of buildings, he had a bad temper problem, and he threatened Mrs. Steinmetz to move out of her home so he could destroy her home.
It probably wasn't Mrs. Steinmetz or Willoby Whitfield preventing themselves from falling. It was Herbie doing that since he's a car that's alive so Herbie was probably balancing himself staying close to the wall so he doesn't fall.
I guess Mr. Thorndyke and Mr. Hawk were both bad in different ways. Mr. Thorndyke wanted to steal Herbie for his very own (because he found out Herbie was alive) and Mr. Hawk was more afraid of Herbie and didn't want to have anything to do with Herbie, especially since Mr. Hawk had a nightmare of Herbie where Mr. Hawk was dreaming he was King Kong on the Empire State Building. Plus at the end, Mr. Hawk was running away from Herbie and a million Volkswagons.
Simon Moore III also wanted a living Volkswagen, so he got Dr. Gustav Stumpfel to create another VW beetle with a mind of it's own, which turned out to be a devil car by the name of Horace The Hate Bug.
My guess is that maybe Willoby Whitfield and Mrs. Steinmetz for real life are not really on top of a high building where the background just shows some scenery of a poster of a big city from far down making it look like Willoby Whitfield and Mrs. Steinmetz are high up and the directors and producers probably arranged for a hidden string tied on the passenger side of Herbie which pulled Herbie up making it look like Herbie is balancing himself as he's turning so he doesn't fall.
0:33 “Now you’ve done it, Mr.Hawk! you’ve made herbie very angry!
Helen Hayes was adorable in this movie. I remember seeing it as a kid and wishing she were MY grandmother too.
She always reminded me of a hybrid of both of my grandmothers.
I love this scene sooo much, so many good memories back into my head. Whos seen this more times than me haha??
Don't make Herbie angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

HAHAHAHA!!!! I always forget the one thing Herbie is afraid of, I'd never do it either! Oh I love Herbie, he's so funny! =D
Magical movie
Ken Berry was a hilarious actor!
It has now been 5 years since we lost him. R.I.P. 1933 - 2018

Very silly and funny! LOL
**Comes sliding out the door with soap all over** Assistant: “Will you be going out for a while Mr. Hawk?”
Winston Renting I honestly loved that part.
Wheeeee!!!!
famous last words: "Now you've done it Mr. Hawk, You've made Herbie very ANGRY!!!"
To quote Mr. Wu from the first Love Bug movie, "Small car very angry."
yeah you did
@@BenJabituya*panting* and very strong!

Mr. Hawk had a temper much shorter than Mr. Thorndyke! Those villains stop at nothing to pick on poor little Herbie.
Boy, and I thought Mr. Thorndyke was bad, but Mr. Hawk was EVEN WORSE!
Always loved Herbie. Ever since his 1st film to his last. Herbie 1!
Best grandma ever.
Die Herbie-Filme sind meine Lieblingsfilme. Ich find es immer wieder spannend was dieser kleine Käfer alles drauf hat.
now you've done it Mr hawk you've made Herbie very angry
@dogalways There are many herbies available to buy, I plan to get an old 63 beetle and restore it to a Herbie somewhere down the road.
best... scene... EVER!!!!
CLASSIC....
thanks my favourite was fully loaded!
I've always thought Mrs Steinmetz and Herbie made a great team, so funny :)
Scariest part of any movie from my childhood

absolutely nice and funny :)
0:30 - Important lesson: DON'T PISS HERBIE OFF!!!
Herbie went Sicko Mode
It probably wasn't Mrs. Steinmetz or Willoby Whitfield preventing themselves from falling. It was Herbie doing that since he's a car that's alive so Herbie was probably balancing himself staying close to the wall so he doesn't fall.
Hear hear. Dean Jones was brilliant.
“Herbie, stop it!”
Herbie is 46 years old.
Magnificent scene this
02:46 😂😂😂😂
If you want to see it on TH-cam it's titled as "Herbie Gets Punished."
Dont get me wrong - I love Herbie but it doesnt seem right without Jim Douglas
Not even right without Tennessee Steinmetz, either, let alone Thorndyke and Havershaw.
0:30 triggered
Lesson #53: NEVER MAKE HERBIE ANGRY... OR ELSE THAT WILL HAPPEN!!!!!
ahh yeah, that could be how they did it, it makes sense :) its interesting to wonder how things were done. ^_^
When herbie was up high I would be sick
wouldn't you be upset if someone wanted to knock down your house? lol
Mrs. Steinmetz had 'reason' to keep her fire house is because it IS a historic landmark and it needs to be preserved.
Obviously.
herdie car lol
"lovley Morning" haha
I love the love bug
and so the killer car genre was born
La bellezza di quando a maggio posso farmi ancora la doccia calda
Not even right without Tennessee Steinmetz, either!
how come I can never find any music from the herbie movies on youtube, and do you have the clip of Mr. Hawk's herbie-related nightmare
@RocketSauce515
LOL You would drive it like Bubba Smith drove a little Honda in Police Academy.
@ShukakuTheCrazy1 That is true. Many people went to search but never found the Vehicle. Sad.
