Hello, first of all i wanna say that i am NOT a hater. Im not a fan of bts and kpop in general but i got directed here cause a friend is a fan of jimin. She asked me to check it out. I usually listen to rock and hip hop music but i do not understand the hype behind this song and what makes it good. In my opinion it wasn't very amazing as i prefer lyrical songs that paint a story. Could you or someone kindly explain to me the hidden meanings or backstory about jimin and what makes this song good? Respectfully 🙏🏻

Back then in BTS' earlier days they were a lot different with a concept that contrasts the one they currently possess. They actually started out as a hip hop group and did a lot of rap based songs. Although that was still "them" in a sense, as their message has stayed true for over 10 years of their career. Jimin was a contemporary dancer before he joined BTS. The image the group held didn't necessarily reflect his true self I would say. He tried to fit the mold of the concept of their earlier days and tried to appear more masculine/hip hop and what not etc. Over the years and as BTS' concept as a group changed and became something more humble and real and relatable, Jimin slowly but surely started to let go of this concept that didn't really reflect him. He is now more himself and doesn't care if he gets criticized for being who he is. He's a gentle guy who cares for others and appreciates the beauty in everything unlike this alter ego of a macho man who's tough and can't be touched. And honestly all of the BTS members have let go of this concept and embraced their true selves. Through this song Jimin is asking to be "Set free" from his old self who doesn't define him. From the prejudice of the people who talk down on him. He doesn't care anymore because now he's gonna always be his true self even if "people mock him" as the lyrics say. That's why this song is so meaningful to him and us. I'm an ARMY of 7 years and I've seen all of them evolve into the men they are now. I feel extremely proud of Jimin.
