Furina's english VA is insanely good. She did 3 completely different tones as Focalors and Furina yet still managed to not sound like totally different persons.
I love how nuanced of a take on healing and moving forward Furina's story is. Logically, a hard cut from something so close to your previous life and trauma makes sense. However, when you're depressed or lost after trauma, sometimes exactly what you need is a reminder about the things you love to get your groove back.
Fun Fact: Furina’s English VA Amber Lee-Connors founded the voice acting studio Sound Cadence Studios in 2013. It is the VA studio that many of the English VAs for ZZZ work under.
1:48:21 Furina: "If a Vision is a gift from the gods... Then I should do my best to honour it." Arnold: "FUCK THE GODS!" This made me laugh so hard. Goddamn man 🤣🤣🤣 Also I loved this character quest a lot. Really hope they do a part 2 for Furina or Nuevilette.
I know right? Most people were too sensitive or overreacting about the Traveler's role in this Story Quest. It is totally understandable that Furina had been through a lot and how her 500 year act took an emotional toll on her. However, Focalors wouldn't want this for Furina to continue her depression slump after she finished her Archon role. She wanted her to move and be free in life with the pursuit of happiness that she truly deserves. Which is what the Traveler was doing now to pick up her feet again.
I remember when this SQ dropped in 4.2 in 2023. There was a lot of controversy surrounding it. Some in their anger and overprotectiveness missing points in Furina's character growth and that during this until her vision being granted by Neuvillette. She was a very lost soul until she came realize and decided on her own pass her 500yrs worth of experience to the next generation of performers, actors, and directors. Cause who better to teach a buddy talent like her? And I say this as someone that used to not like Furina until Act 5. Id love her meet Maulani, Xilonen, Nilou, Amy/Fischl, Yun Jin, and other archons.❤😊 Yes I do think Paimon was very tone deaf this SQ but she does it every archon.😭
I could understand why people hate paimon and traveler in this quest, but I don't want Furina spent her live alone cooking pasta for 20 years. She is just normal human now, a little push is what she needs. Lamenting 500 years of past won't change things, a decade won't be enough if you focus on healing that 500 years. That's not what Focalor's want.
Thank you! Oh my god, this is what some people need to pay close attention to her character lore and what she really need. No matter what they say about the Traveler and Paimon being tone-deaf on this quest (well Paimon was kinda rude but still), they did the right thing to pull her out of her stagnant misery and relive her life once again with her old passion of acting. Even in Furina's profile voice lines highlighted this fact in About the Vision that she thought about locking herself up for a long time, but she no longer felt anxious once she is on stage again. Because she can finally be herself for once after 500 years.
A phenomenal quest! Love Traveler and Paimon giving Furina the push she needs rather than coddling her like some infant, and love Furina going out and reclaiming what she loves. Sometimes it takes someone to push you, not baby you. It’s a wonderful message for so many people who struggle to express and find their passions like that. You go, Furina! Take that stage!
I can get that, honestly, I treated furina like any of our other friends in this game, instead of treating her like a celebrity or fragile thing, I went as a friend she needed, having her in my party helped see most characters I interact with regularly, no matter how high status they are, some respect here and there
Ehem, one might also say Neuvillete’s love for the human Furina extended to all humanity and that is why he could never allow Fontaine to dissolve. Truly the most devious plan from Focalor, allowing her humanity to spend 500years alongside the Hydro dragon.
Just wanted to add this for people looking for some context: I know a LOT of people disliked the tone and handling of Furina and her trauma by various characters in this quest. And I get it. However, something to point out is that some of the way this was handled is due to a fundamental difference in culture between Asian countries and the West. In countries like China, trauma and depression is adressed VERY differently than elsewhere in the world. In China when someone is in a slump, their friends and family will often push them to get out, go do things, distract themselves, get back into the swing of things, etc. The idea being that moping, spending time mourning, and things of that nature are not productive and the best treatment is to try and establish routine, hobbies, and other things to get back to a healthy mood. That's some of what's happening here in this quest. I've seen a lot of western fans upset that Furina is being pushed into the spotlight, being outed by the staff in the credits and stuff. Its just not seen as meanspirited to do that in China, so I think that was somewhat lost in translation. I WILL however, completely agree that paimon was still out of pocket a few times. The dialogue in this quest still needs work.
I think the writers wanted to give Furina the opportunity to push back when she felt she needed to push back, but to do that, someone had to push. Paimon is the patsy here.
@@effortlessfury Yeah, I think they used Paimon's character pretty well, here. Paimon is like a little sister: she's earnest, but immature. She's the perfect character to act pushy and a bit rude while actually meaning well.
To be fair, there was also some backlash in China, as far as I can tell, it wasn't just a Western thing. I think the problem is that the story quest kind of assumes Furina and the Traveller & Paimon are friends, but, based on the Archon quest, that's really not a given - and the story quest starts by a reminder that the MC hasn't seen Furina since then. So rather than a gentle push to get her out of her shell, the initial interaction comes across as pretty inconsiderate. It'd be a totally different thing if, say, Clorinde was the one making the initial offer (and in fact the character notes do point out she was the one to first manage to get Furina out of her house). Honestly, I think most people ended up really liking the SQ anyway. But the first fifteen minutes do feel a bit tone-deaf in places.
I loved this quest so much. Patch 4.2 was about depression, both with Furina's story quest and the Thelxie event - I mean that literally. Her quest hit me hard as someone's who's been in a similar situation, losing purpose and the resultant avoidance behaviour. It also helps that she got the perfect end to move forward.
This quest was such a nice new beginning for Furina to start living her life normally, and to experience the joy of making macaroni because it's easy and fast.😂
Honestly at this point I sometimes think Hoyoverse is just a music company that does games and animation for fun 😂😂😂 This was on another level-the fact that they went as far as casting Cécilia Cara, famous for playing Juliet in the Romeo and Juliet musical, is incredible. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Having different artists and interpretations of the song, along with a separate music video, was just amazing. The effort they put into delivering this masterpiece is truly impressive. Hoyoverse may have its issues, but when they cook, they COOK! 🧑🍳 -their games and animation are goated but damn their music is just "chef's kiss" 🧑🍳
I love Furina's story quest so much. I relate to her so much & to guide a team of performers all on her own. She is so brave to return to the stage and perform a great act. She is a treasure and deserves the whole world 💙🤍
I get why ppl were angry and traveler's and paimon's words at the beginning of the quest. They did come off kinda insensitive. But to me, I saw them as that they were trying to help Furina get back on her feet, though they went about it rather crudely. It did give Furina the chance to push back against them though, and allowed her to establish her stance firmly.
It was more paimon’s words, Aether asking her to do the play was disingenuous since he knows the truth, but he didn’t try to guilt trip her or call her a diva. He comforted her in Poisson as well
Furina deserves the world and *everything* positive there is after all that she has been through I don’t think she will ever leave my Lumine team (yes, I’m one of those lore fans who is also MC main), there’s no way I’d let Furina be sad and lonely again Also, I would LOVE to see a second Story Quest for Furina and seeing Neuvillette attending one of her performances and applauding her in the end just like he said in one of his voice lines We love you so much, Furina, Focalors, Neuvillette, and Fontaine
1:48:26 You know, "gods" and "archons" technically refer to the same entities. They're just different ways of addressing. As far as I know, there is no such thing as a whole different group of gods in Celestia, mirroring those on the surface. Like, Zhongli is the Geo Archon on land so there should be a version of him over in Celestia.
I feel like this Furina Story Quest 1 also needs the Fontanalia Film Festival. Coz I kinda like the idea that after all of this, Furina realises she loves Directing and being Behind the Camera instead of being On Stage.
I still refuse to believe that certain Traveler and Paimon lines in this quest is real. It was as if they never heard about what really happened and it was so frustrating. The quest is fine for me but those lines, man, they make my blood boil.
I had to take a break here cuz I'm ngl, just purely on my own emotions, I felt bitter when I saw the Furina and Neuvillette Lore Reading Videos 😂 Even tho I know you're obv busy with other stuff, I was also looking forward to other Character Lore Videos like Dori, Cyno, Tighnari, etc. lol I'm just a bitter soul xD I'm sure they'll get their Character Lore Reading Videos soon...or not which is fine? - the Furina bias was VERY apparent in the beginning and even I got affected by the frustration. Lucky not too much anymore after hearing the whole story of the said troupe - Paimon is probably on the stage because she helped with tiny stuff. The theater troupe is a collective group of effort. No matter how tiny the contribution sooooo ☺️ - The audience sees the character she's playing and not Furina herself! I got hope she got a tiny break from the "500 year acting" during thise Opera Epiclese shows she was the star of - The thing is, Furina was acting for 500 years but she was also doing theater stuff and being an actress in some Opera Epiclese shows (cuz obv this Aurelie troupe looks up to Furina's acting) so she's being someone else entirely rather than her "needed Archon acting" so Idk about "resentment towards plays and acting" ???? It's like a tiny break from the main exhausting thing :'D c'mon now
On one side, it’s crazy how we as humans, are complicated. And on another, how simple and similar we are, when that music kicks in, no mater who you are or from where you are, you just simply enjoy it. It’s just… poetic.
I took the end cutscene to be something that shows what the cataclysm could have looked like. like La Vaguelette was imo an artistic interpretation of what Fontaine could have gone through during that disaster.
Ok now that I finished the video (really great btw) was it ever confirmed if Neuvillette was the one who gave Furina her vision? I believe it was implied in one of their story lore readings but its been a while. Either way the cutscene in where she got it was incredible. Watching it again got me emotional 😂
Wasn't it the case that Archons had no control over who got a vision? And I think it was said that the process is similar for Neuvillette, despite him not being bound by Celestia's laws? So I don't think he gave it to her intentionally, even if it's technically granted from a portion of his Authority. (Side note: I wonder if Celestia has realised that the Hydro Throne is gone and possibly move against Neuvillette)
Furina is a person who genuinely enjoys acting. The reason why she retired is because of pretending to be Focalors had a huge toll on her not realising that acting as an archon wasn't the only thing that her career was all about. She realised she enjoys acting otherwise having that hydro vision wouldn't make sense.
Yes. I always do pivotal character lore readings AFTER doing their respective story quests. Furina and Neuvillette's will actually be the next two videos posted over the weekend, including the Fontaine Wing Glider lore! BIG LORE INCOMING!
A annoying as it was to have Paimon being a complete ass in this quest to Furina, you see how she grows, she gains a Vision which means that it was her own personal choice, her ideals to pursue this path, and we see in later events like the film festival, just how happy Furina is. Although it was a rough push for her by the Traveler and Paimon, this was indeed what she needed to find her personal happiness. She’s my all time favourite character 💙
I have a theory that Visions never came from Celestia, that they come from the will of the 3rd descender that’s still in the Gnosis. I feel like that reveal would retroactively make the Vision Hunt decree and the stuff surrounding it make more sense.
I hope furina have a second story quest. I want her second story is about fontaine's past and Egeria. Unlike makoto and ruhkadevata, I kinda curious why hoyoverse still not give Egeria full design. Egeria had voice in final feast trailer, but not appear in archon quest. Is it just my feelings, it seems we have zero info about focalors past outside of her aq . I even couldnt found out her role in artifact lore, books, unvoiced world quests etc.And also we still dont know Focalors's oceanid name, and Furina's signature weapon is telling about Erinnyes.
this quest was great even the song just wish the sub for the song were accurate but since its a play for me the subs are the lines for the play and the song is in the background of the play
Paimon and to a lesser extent the Traveler were really on something this quest. I don't understand why they were so rude to Furina like she has done nothing to warrant the things that were said to her. But the overall story and the ending the quest was amazing
the traveler was like this during the main archon quest too, like when the Oratrice started the death sentence and he went: ''but i dont have answers yet!'' with zero care for Furina's life
@illidanST7F I think that stems from not knowing her. Especially for traveler, they are very cold unless they get to know and understand the person. Like Ayaka, Lyney (after he got revealed, it felt like a betrayal that the traveler really didn't know him), and finally Furina. It's not furinas fault for that but she did have a Persona that obviously wasn't her and I think that automatically put traveler on guard. Paimon is tone deaf like a child in general to be honest
Ah yes, the quest that made just about every genshin player not only get angry at paimon, but even get annoyed by the traveler. Despite that, this was still a nice quest and it all wrapped up with a pretty shiny hydro vision from a certain dragon sovereign. 😊
1:12:25 that's literally what you just made up in your head. It's a shame that after 4.2 all the merits of Furina are attributed to her divine appendix. Arnold, the dialog speaks about pre-split Furina who never wanted to be an archon ("never wanted to be the center of attention") but still chose to do her archon duty for her "brothers and sisters" aka whole Fontaine. And after the split this motivation continues through Furina (never wanted to be an archon but did it for Fontaine again). What was Focalors (divinity's) role in all of this? If Focalors is just how you calling pre-split Furina, than my previous statement is still true. Divinity has a different motivation, it is much more - to carry out justice. Hydro archon has other things that she cares about besides herself, you know. That's why her plan was so cruel to her human-self in the first place: both before and after the split she thought of herself last. Just like Director Aurelie. The hole quest was about comparing her to Furina. She is a big sister to all of Fontaine. 59:44 it sounds like she's some kind of narcissist. She loved humanity even before she become human. I love that you managed to see that piece of egoism in her plan (I will die in such a way that I will remain alive in the end). But that's it. Just a piece, not a whole plan. Female lead sacrificed herself in front of male lead to save people who blamed her of their sins, and now the male lead lives without her and is the only one who knows her secret. I think I've seen this somewhere before. 🤔
I wish they make a story part 2 for Furina that revolves around Egeria cuz Focalors is the closes thing we know to Egeria. However, i also want a story part 2 for Neuvillette that revolves around him and other dragons maybe Apep cuz i think the previous Hydro dragon has some close connection to her in some way.
Thank you for the sincere emotions during the walktrough. It is very pleasant to watch the reactions of a person who understands both the main lore of the game and the lore of minor world quests. Although everything eventually resolved well for Furina, the indignation from the initial dialogues with Furina made me cringe and mad with incredible force
I know Paimon was a little insensitive in the beginning. But sometimes we need a friend like that to push us to stop sitting at home all day long and return to work on something that we have talent to do. Otherwise we will just deeply drown into depression.
This quest was so satisfying! I wanna say peak cinema, but i guess theater would fit better? Also, the emotion behind Furina's voice acting was amazing. The VA did an absolutely stellar job! Edit: forgot to mention, Paimon and Aether are both guilty for guilt tripping Furina at the beginning. I was scolding Paimon that whole part.
Agreed so much, that they'd go out of their way to disregard the archon quest and write something like this is really bad on hyv. Everyone is just pushing their own selfish desires on her including the people trying to justify this story quest like it was supposed to be what was best for her like lol these clowns were doing it because they wanted a free actress, not because they wanted to help her after all she's done for Fontaine. These ppl should drown and get dissolved
I love Furina so much but I still hate the set up of this quest. It was so forced, she really deserved a break. But I liked that she finally put her foot down at the end after all this time she's been forced to play a role she never asked for. I think this SQ might be more relatable to people who have retired from an occupation they've worked so hard for and enjoyed along the way. She's so human for living up to her full purpose, feeling lost but still looking forward to a new beginning.
Other than Paimon and traveler being tone def, I actually like this SQ, especially the part of troupes theater building which even got a unique personal favorite soundtrack from Fontaine.
The intro part of this story quests is in my opinion, one of the worst case scenario. I don't know how pressed the storywriter with the deadline is but this just ain't it 😅 Especially with how tone deaf paimon is god damn
The start of the quest could have been better imo Instead of that, we could have the Traveler and Paimon started the commission when all of the sudden Furina walks by. They could have some chat about her trauma and that she doesn't want to be the center stage anymore, then she leaves. Then when the commissioner talks about "The little Oceanid", Furina suddenly stopped and hid somewhere to eardrop on the play. The Traveler notices, they come and chat with Furina, giving her a suggestion to join back the stage as the direcor, and not forcing upon her to become one
This is your too much of a coincidence kind of start. Sure it feels reasonable but not realistic at all because you can't start every story with random encounters. If this was hoyo 2-3 years ago maybe they would have taken this route because it has already been used countless times in so many quests but not here. You genuinely need a good reason and motivation go ahead for an action. Think about it, if Furina walked by and noticed traveller and paimon, she would run away without letting them know instead of chatting with them.
Holy work, Amber Lee Connors. miHoYo offficially turns into a music company with making games as their side lines. I don't know if other people have the same thought like me, but I slightly hate the Traveler and Paimon voicelines in this story quest.

- The audience sees the character she's playing and not Furina herself! I got hope she got a tiny break from the "500 year acting" during thise Opera Epiclese shows she was the star of
- The thing is, Furina was acting for 500 years but she was also doing theater stuff and being an actress in some Opera Epiclese shows (cuz obv this Aurelie troupe looks up to Furina's acting) so she's being someone else entirely rather than her "needed Archon acting" so Idk about "resentment towards plays and acting" ???? It's like a tiny break from the main exhausting thing :'D c'mon now
On one side, it’s crazy how we as humans, are complicated.
And on another, how simple and similar we are, when that music kicks in, no mater who you are or from where you are, you just simply enjoy it. It’s just… poetic.
40:05 Well Navia is indeed the MVP of the archon quest 😊
18:20 "LEAVE HER ALONE!!"
("Akira" Parody) → (Flashes to Oratrice🌟Mecanique🌟d'Analyse🌟Cardinale)
"AAAAAAAA--"
Akira
She never left my team
this is the story quest that we fell in love for Furina much more harder.
That fight almost got the best of me... I was hydro, cryo and dendro, I almost couldn't go past the cryo slime's shields
Hi arnold! I want to ask, are u gonna drop the video about Neuvillette and Furina Story? I mean like Character Story and Voicelines?
Yes. I always do pivotal character lore readings AFTER doing their respective story quests. Furina and Neuvillette's will actually be the next two videos posted over the weekend, including the Fontaine Wing Glider lore! BIG LORE INCOMING!
@@MurderofBirdsImpact Thats cool, thankyou!
@@sahlwrld Sure thing! :)
Furina: depressed after 500 years of mental torture
Traveler, Paimon and haters: womp womp
1:01:17 What I've been saying Everytime I hear his Damn name!
She has to keep moving forward
I have a theory that Visions never came from Celestia, that they come from the will of the 3rd descender that’s still in the Gnosis. I feel like that reveal would retroactively make the Vision Hunt decree and the stuff surrounding it make more sense.
It’s just English translation tone issues, I think .. In Japanese it doesn’t sound that harsh from Paimon and traveler..
Man Paimon has such a BIGG MOUTH.
New episode finally out, was wondering if the absence is cuz you've been cooking in the oven for something
The delay has mainly been due to the fact that I've been doing a lot of editing lately, so it's made me fall behind a bit. But we're so back now!
You were so antagonic since the beginning of this quest lol
@@illidanST7F no it was completely within their right to say that even tho it sounded a little selfish.
Best character
Ah yes, the quest that made just about every genshin player not only get angry at paimon, but even get annoyed by the traveler.
Despite that, this was still a nice quest and it all wrapped up with a pretty shiny hydro vision from a certain dragon sovereign. 😊
Hardest story quest to do
1:12:25 that's literally what you just made up in your head.
I don't really know how to interpret the tone of this comment, but okay, I guess? lol
Yes, I came here to see Arnold just get as frustrated as I was especially in the beginning of this quest.
NOT. FOR. THE. BEST. GIRL
Anyone else wanted to just Drop Kick Paimon during this quest
As good as this quest is, I kinda hated how Paimon was so tone deaf to Furina’s trauma.
These ppl should drown and get dissolved
you're kinda wild for that last comment.
@@MurderofBirdsImpact I don't need the people of Fontaine, free Furina instead
Oh noo… the Furina being pressured to perform again flashbacks 😭😭 I got so pissed off at Aether & Paimon for this.
Ah yes, the quest where we force a poor girl to relive centuries of trauma and gets magic powers for it, how could I forget!
This is a misconception, even before this quest she still loved theater
@@KingMufasa_8 its how some people saw it, i.e arnold himself lol XD
But well it can seem that way
The intro part of this story quests is in my opinion, one of the worst case scenario. I don't know how pressed the storywriter with the deadline is but this just ain't it 😅
Especially with how tone deaf paimon is god damn
The start of the quest could have been better imo
Instead of that, we could have the Traveler and Paimon started the commission when all of the sudden Furina walks by.
Again, the traveller could have APOLOGIZED in this quest and yet NOO lets help a theatre troupe instead lmao
Has she apologized for trying to throw us in prison the moment she met us? If not, then why should we apologize for trying to save a nation
This might be one of the worst Paimon & Traveler moments in the game.
Holy work, Amber Lee Connors. miHoYo offficially turns into a music company with making games as their side lines.
I don't know if other people have the same thought like me, but I slightly hate the Traveler and Paimon voicelines in this story quest.
Oh trust me, lots and lots of people hate Paimon and Traveler in this quest, im not one them though
