      Love when there’s solid balance as sometimes there seems to be a campaign against interlocking. It’s not for everyone. Works well for me living the island life. I do mine myself and I think that makes a world of difference if done right ❤

    Very informative video! You covered a lot of bases. I have microlocs that were installed using the interlock method. I no longer do reties but twist instead so that I could do them myself. Since my locs are small, I am gentle so as not to stress my follicles. I use a tiny amount of flaxseed gel, almost to where you can't even see it on my finger tip, and add a little hair oil then twist the loc. It is holding well, there's no itching or flaking, and my hair is fluffy. Also, by twisting them myself instead of letting a loctician interlock them, I save $1200/yr.

      Thank you!! 😊 I’m here for the self maintenance as well, it definitely adds up. Save your coins where you can lol. Do you make the flaxseed gel yourself or is there a brand you use? I’ve been thinking about trying it for my retwists!

      Came to this video because I’m thinking of doing this because my loctician is not reliable.. my question is.. how long do you go in between retwists?

    • @redcardinal4
      @redcardinal4 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LivinWithTheBs The first year I retwisted every 6-8 weeks. Now I can go 8-10. and only use avocado oil. I make sure my hair is damp, use the oil to twist, and when I'm all done I spritz my hair with rosewater then blowdry my hair while the clips are still in to set the twist. I leave the clips in for a few hours afterwards. I don't manipulate my hair too much, so my twists stay put until it's time to redo them.

    Hi, your video was very helpful. I loved your demonstration at the end to show where your original interlocking was. I started feeling down the individual locs on my head and realized or rather confirmed that my hair was interlocked. Moving forward, I want to go the retwisting route as I desire a more fluffy thick look and not the more manicured, intact, scalpy look that interlocking sustains. Good video! just found your channel and subscribed. I’ve had sisterlocks for 4 years now with interlocking being my maintenance, and my crown area has always been thin, but recently it looks even thinner. This video helps me to see why. The compactness of each lock that is interlocked. I’ve been researching knotted locks that are supposed to allow for fuller roots. Not sure knotted locks will give me the thicker or fuller roots, but I see now how the twisting works. I must say that I’ll be researching the retwist method in my hope to thicken my crown. Thanks.

    Also (2nd comment) that’s why interlocking keeps your hair near your scalp neater longer, bc it’s way more compact and stays in place versus retwisting, my hair be wild at the roots in less than 2 weeks. It’s so annoying for me. Im really trying to decide since I been palm rolling the new growth for almost 3 years. Hard decision. Ughhhh lol. With the neater longer lasting roots just gotta understand it comes with the Slighter thinner looking locs. Decisions decisions.

    i want thick locs but i didn’t have my density in mind…the back of my hair is thinner than the front but i did kinda the same size parting…now i’m contemplating splitting my locs in the front bc they are toooooo thick compared to my locs in the back…im 6 months locd btw but i don’t want to comb them out and repeat bc i don’t want to instant loc and lose that natural nature 🫠

    • @Thecatherinealexandra
      @Thecatherinealexandra  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh wow, that’s tough. If you’re not happy with the size I would suggest taking them down . 6 months in your hair isn’t fully loc’d yet so I don’t think it would bad if you started those over !

    Hi!! Thanks for your video! Ik you’ve been interlocking for 6 months, but how long have you been retwisting? Also how often did you get a retie in the 6 months?

    • @Thecatherinealexandra
      @Thecatherinealexandra  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Heyyy ! I stopped interlocking once I hit the 6 month mark. Im 16 months in so going on a year now of retwisting. In the 6 months I was interlocking, I got a retie about every 8 weeks. I had 4 retie sessions in total.

      It’s been fine, I typically pull my hair back in to a low ponytail when I workout and sometimes will tie down the front

    Thank you so much for this it’s so helpful ❤ I’m only 1 month into starting my loc journey for the 3rd time but this time with twists and gosh my first retie is so tight and making me uncomfortable. I’ve always wanted the fuller look so I’m never doing a retie again only retwists but it feels like they already messed up my journey and that makes me sad :(

    • @Thecatherinealexandra
      @Thecatherinealexandra  ปีที่แล้ว

      If they only interlocked once, your locs will be fine. I interlocked mine a few times and my locs turned out fine lol

    HELLO😊 YOU EXPLAIN THAT SO WELL😊 THANK YOU😊 THIS IS MY 4TH YEAR WITH MY LOCS😊 EVER SINCE THEN, MY ROOTS HAVE NEVER BEEN LOCKED. MY BEAUTICIAN NEVER TOOK THE TIME TO LOOK AT THAT, SO I WENT TO THIS AFRICAN BEAUTICIAN AND SHE INTERLOCKED MY ROOTS. IT DID MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE😊 I JUST DID THIS ONE TIME, JUST BECAUSE RETWIST RETWIST WAS NOT DOING ANYTHING AFTER 4 YEARS FOR ME OR MAYBE WHO CARES. BUT I DO LIKE MY MEDIUM TO SMALL LOCS😊 MAYBE THIS WILL FIX ALL THE LOOSE ROOT LOOK FOR NOW😊 ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE FINE😊 P.S. DO INTERLOCKING LEAVES KNOTS IN YOUR LOCS?😊

    It was good info...but the only miss information that I heard on this video was "people get there roots interlock 8weeks...
    That's false information..
    Ppl you know probably do... But any experienced loctian will tell you 3-4months.. which is about 3 to 4 times max a year..

      No. Thinning hair is hair strands breaking off. A skinny loc does not always mean the hair is breaking off. It may just mean the interloc is very very compact.
