After living outside the UK for the past 3 years it really is a testament to how much of a close community our football club is that I can watch these awards and recognize so many faces that I would see inside the ground all those years ago. Next year we will be even stronger there’s no doubt about it!

Find yourself someone that looks at you like Rod looks at Derek.

The best goalkeeper is Trevor Carson, the best defender is Liam Gibson, the best midfielder is Adam Phillips, the best super striker is the legendary Cole Stockton, the best head coach is Derek Adams. Well, all guys in club is the best for me. Thanks guys, good luck in the new season.

Bit odd the booing of certain names in the audience. Derek Adams rightly acknowledged Stephen Robinson’s contribution to the season. Robinson had it tough from the off but Morecambe were still competing although before Christmas l worried they had run out of ideas. Robinson didn’t sit on his hands in January and brought in players who were vital on the run in. Carson was class, Bedeau was solid, Connolly worked like stink without proper goal rewards, Fane was a great engine and breaker of play in the middle, l could go on. I’m not necessarily saying we would have stayed up with Robinson but the changes helped Derek Adams when he came back. Robinson made a professional decision for himself in a professional game. Derek Adams did the same after promotion last year when he went to Bradford. He had shown what getting a team fit and organised could achieve. Prior to his arrival if you look at Morecambe’ s results and see how many games they lost in the last 20 minutes year upon year - lack of fitness??? Maybe Morecambe needed to make professional decisions rather than accepting this is where we are and we are lucky to be here…and in fact almost apologising for being a football league club. I made excuses for Jim Bentley when he was at Morecambe but maybe he was too comfortable. Maybe there was the element that “ My budget hasn’t increased so what do you expect?” . With Morecambe now they very much have a blank sheet of paper. They have to be making money and the Community element of the club is strong. They can grow their infrastructure and who knows next year they may pass 100k through the gates. They have the advantage of seeing and learning from what mistakes, or otherwise, other clubs have made. At this moment everything looks good.

With regards to the booing of Robbo, everyone in there had a few drinks and I think it was more just tongue in cheek banter than anything malicious. He did leave us in the shit at the 1st chance he got after saying all the right things all season and making out he was 100% committed to the cause. I’m glad he’s gone as he would have taken us down no doubt about it. Worked out well for everyone in the end , robbo included.

I actually think Robinson was 100% committed to the cause right up until a better offer came in. I think Rod Taylor said that SR had just bought a house in the area. Derek Adams was 100% committed to the cause before a better offer came from Bradford. In a professional business you have to look after yourself if a better offer comes along. For Morecambe now, and this is the gist of what l was writing previously, they have to think more professionally now that they have 4300 average attendances rather than limping along with 1500. Timing, as much as anything, helped Morecambe this season. As Steve Robinson was leaving it coincided with Derek Adams leaving Bradford. It was absolutely to the Chairman’s credit that he immmediately got on the phone and got DA back. In the brief spell when the club was managerless l heard some people questioning why the club would go back to the man who left them in the lurch …supposedly. Morecambe made the right professional decision. Different timing could have had it coinciding with Jim Bentley leaving Fylde and we might have had a sentimental decision taken. Slightly differently, if Cole Stockton got a life changing offer of a transfer this close season (like Sam Lavelle did) would we consider him not being 100% committed to the cause if he went? The lad would deserve it.
