Lionel 1970s MPC Train Set "Freight Train" Elizabeth Cotton

Lionel 1970s era trains run along an elongated oval loop on the floor.
Lionel 2-4-0 8302 for the Southern Railroad with matching tender.
Lionel MPC made colorful freight cars molded & painted in bright colors.
These are O27 gauge/scale Lionel trains made to operate on the tighter 27 inch curves of the O27 line aimed at kids & budget consumers. General Mills purchased the molds, tools & equipment along with paying a royalty to the Lionel Corp. to use their name for marketing etc purposes. As such 1969 was the last year of the old Lionel Corporation making toy trains. From 1970 to 1986 the cereal giant General Mills owned & operated Lionel trains. Known as the MPC era to collectors today. The MPC era was noted for it's rich vibrant colors & variety of RR road names & rolling stock.

Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten (January 5, 1893 - June 29, 1987) was an influential African-American folk & blues musician. She was a self-taught left-handed guitarist who played a guitar strung for a right-handed player, but played it upside down.
"Freight Train" is an American folk song written by Elizabeth Cotten in the early 20th century. She composed "Freight Train" as a teenager (sometime between 1906 and 1912), inspired by the sound of the trains rolling in on the tracks near her home in North Carolina.
