Hello synikalhuman2875, Thank you for your kind words! It is good to be back!! I'm going to do another video on where I've been and why I was down so long so everybody gets caught up...it sure was a long strange journey!! Some more advanced good news... is that I've gotten my Dr's approval as well as a permit from the PCT to allow me on a 600 mile "LASH" start ing from Campo in May 2025 I hope you get to follow along again. Peace my friend!! 👍✌
Nice video Frank! I’m from Watkins Glen and I hiked several hundred miles on the FLT in preparation for my AT thru-hike. Long story short, it did very little to prepare me for the AT. Hiking up and down little hills is nothing like hiking up and down big mountains.
Hello thegreatexaggerator9077!! Thank you for your email!! I'm in complete agreement with you on the differences between the 2 trails. THAT is exact how I ended up having a silent heart attack on the AT last year. I knew something had gone very wrong on day 3 but couldn't identify the cause. I did elect to get off trail and seek medical attention and luckily ended up saving my life with that decision!! The hikes I'm doing now are just my 1st times back out after receiving serious medical attention, multiple cardiac procedures, and with the approval of my cardiologist. I will be back on the trail next year, but not the AT. I'm doing a 600 mile LASH from Campo to Tehachapi on the PCT. Much less vertical and far more mileage to each vertical. Peace my friend!! 😎👍✌
@ I remember following you last year on TH-cam! That was a scary scenario. In my case I got a partially torn Achilles tendon in Hiawassee, NC and ended up going home for a month and getting fitted with orthotics before going back to carry on with my hike. Have you read the book “One Hundred Zeros” by Dennis Blanchard? If not I can recommend that book to you, this gentleman had a similar situation to you and I think you will enjoy the read! Happy trails! -Soul Asylum
Your injury sounds painful!! Obviously you did well and you should be very proud of completing the AT. It still haunts me that I can't get back on "her" again for a while. Eventually I will go back. I just read the excerpts from Blanchard's 300 hundred Zeros, and it sounded interesting. It's now in my Wish List on Amazon...lol!! Happy Trails my friend!! -Brothers Keeper
Hi Eric!! Good to hear from you!! The FLT is an amazing place and easier to get to now that I retired. I'm looking forward to the 2025 spring LASH on the PCT!! 👍✌
Hi Mary!! It's good to hear from you again!! Yes, I was gone a while but very busy working on my recovery. After I got home the news on my trail issue got worse. It seems I had a silent heart attack, according to my new cardiologist. After several weeks of rest, numerous cardiac procedures, and a great diet with exercise...well I'm back. Lighter, better and just as determined to hike. Just last week my cardiologist approved me going back out, hence my announcements that I'm back. I'm going to do a 600 mile "LASH" on the PCT from Campo, the southern terminus, to Tehachapi starting May 15th. The PCT lottery has approved my permit already too. I hope you get to follow me again in 2025!! Peace my friend!! 😎👍✌
Congratulations on your retirement. I saw that this video was posted yesterday but had to wait until today to watch it. I'm glad you're able to get out and about. I ate lunch at the Hawk Mountain Shelter on March 11th and though about the fact that you weren't able to go farther with your hike. It's good to hear your voice again, brother. Take care of yourself.
Hello jonklein9309!! I'm SO honored that you remembered me at Hawk Mountain shelter!! I will NEVER forget my time on the AT and that shelter!!! Coming off the AT was one of the toughest decisions I've had to make in years, BUT it turned out that I saved my own life in making that decision. When I got back home my GP doctor immediately sent me for a series of cardio exams and then to a cardiologist for follow up. I doubted his call but "humored" him any ways. It turns out that the issue on the trail was a silent heart attack!! After 9 months, several cardio procedures, a loss on 20 lbs, and a diet change...I'm now back in fighting shape again!! I regularly do a 10.5 mile hike with my pack for exercise. I will be posting another video soon about my upcoming plans, but since YOU honored me with remembering me at HM shelter I'll tell you that I'm going to be out on the PCT starting May 15th 2025. I did get a permit during the PCT permit lottery and my cardiologist has approved my 600 mile "LASH" heading northbound out of Campo. He actually has access directly to me via my Garmin GPS and will be watching my progress and checking in with me during the trip. I'd be truly honored if you follow my journey again!! Peace my friend!! 😎👍✌
@ I’m definitely following your videos. I even thought about sending you a get week soon card after you got off trail. Then I thought that might be weird coming from a stranger. I think I posted a message on one of your previous videos instead. I’m so glad you’re doing better and wish you luck on the CDT. I’ll be watching for your videos.
@@jonklein9309 There no strangers on the AT, PCT, or any other trail. We're all hiker trash family!! I'll be looking forward to chatting with you while I'm out on the trail again soon!! Peace my brother!! 👍✌
I’ve been to Letchworth many times, Grand Canyon of the East. Congratulations on retiring
Thank Tortomus!! The Finger Lakes Trails are beautiful! Being retired and planning a 2025 LASH on the PCT is just as wonderful!! Peace 👍😎✌️
