We purchased this Maytag MVW7230Hw washer from Pochel’s in Tacoma, Washington. It was delivered and set up by the delivery person. We tried to do a load of laundry and the washer wouldn’t agitate. I took a video to show that the agitator pretty much just vibrated, and didn’t even disturb the small amount of suds that formed when the machine partially filled with water. I took the video to Pochels the next morning. They said they would gladly deliver another machine for only $100. I told them I wasn’t willing to pay an additional $100 to get a machine that worked when I had already paid over $1,000 for one that obviously didn’t work. The agitator doesn’t always work, the fill doesn’t always work, the agitator tries to dry clean the clothes with no water in the tub and the clothes on top don’t get clean.
We have thisodel. It doesn't sense correctly, sometimes it doesn't fill. It gets stuck "sensing" the says the cycle is finished and "drains an empty basket without ever filling. It's been a lot of trouble.
These machines are for people whose close are not really that dirty. As long as you put a half cup of bleach or colot safe bleach on top of a cap full of detergent, this machine would be fine. I have a 2016 speed queen. It cleans the hell out of my clothes. If i am not careful i will get excessive fabric wear. If i am washing tea shirts and light fabrics, i put it on a gentle cycle. My old whirlpool was really rough on fabrics. It had a hand wash cycle that really did the trick. All in all, the new machines are much more gentle on fabrics. While i would never want one of these machines, i can see how someone else might. Those of us who who love the old school machines have to stop thinking that our machines are the only real washers. Different people have different needs. The market can serve both
I just bought this washer, done 4 loads with no problems at all. This test was done 2020. I have read a lot of "bad reviews" on this washer. I wonder how such a bad washer has now stayed on the market for me to get one today in 2024? People must not be telling the truth about how bad this washer is, saying it is a lemon for sure and Maytag knows this. Well, if it is a lemon and Maytag knows it, why is it still on the market in 2024? Surely they have updated things and improved things since this review and others I have seen about this old. Can you do an updated video on this washer. Thing is if all these washers are bad washers, GE, LG, Maytag, etc., and I just had an Amana that lasted only 3 years, what are people suppose to buy? And then you see oh get a Speed queen, best washer ever, and bad reviews come out on those when they sell for over $1,000 each. I just don't get it. What are consumers to do? This is all that is being made. I got the monthly warranty, but thing is too, the length of time it takes for repair people to come repair a machine, nobody wants to fool with that nonsense either, so I hope I get good results if I need repair, however, I got a Whirlpool refrigerator and it took weeks to get a repair done.
My machine does not allow me to change cycles once I push start. It says go back to previous cycle or cancel. This started with the machine on delicate. Could explain the slow agitation.
I found it annoying that LG and Samsung, as well as some Whirlpool/Maytag and GE washers (top and even front load too) that have the bulky/bedding program will limit the spin speed to be slower, I guess it is to reduce chance of explosion like many recalled LG and Samsung ones, not even it is to reduce chance of getting unbalanced I think? Seems to be this one, now have better washing along with max speed of spinning even when using bulky cycle. I'm surprised that now it uses enough water too, with the max spin speed to spin the very, very heavy items like this moving blanket, will extract out of water better and save more energy of machine drying. Feeling this one now has better hanging suspensions, it doesn't shake too much, even when it is during final spin it just virbates a bit, just like my Hitachi top load washers that doesn't virbate too much, despite being louder about 90dB, unlike this Maytag, even though its drain pump should be a bit quieter
Did LG recall machines?? I know Samsung has had three (!) recalls in the last five years or so on their top loaders, but I wasn't aware of LG having any similar problem. Regardless, I'm not surprised that we find more issues on top loaders than front loaders since they're built to be "minimum viable products" - most consumers who buy a top loader do so because they hate front loaders despite the fact the front loaders wash, balance, spin and just generally hold up better than top loaders, so manufacturers know they don't have to put much effort into top loaders. That and the US is the only real market for top loaders, the rest of the (actually developed) world uses strictly front loaders because of the thousands of dollars less in electricity they cause to be consumed over their life due to the significantly faster spin speeds possible when the machine can re-distribute the load to spin. Who wants a washer that can't even move the clothes once the water is drained out? 😂
Now,, that’s the one I want to see. The new LG Top-Load Agitator Washer. Until recently, I’ve never seen a Top-Load LG with an agitator in it before. When will you get one of those in, KIrk? -Charles-
THIS is not how our machine rinses. We have the same one. Its will stay high velocity spin while spuing water out for 25sec, it will do this 3x and then it spins and wash is done. We HAVE to do extra rinse for the tub to actually fill up and rinse the clothes. Very disappointed in our 1 year old machine. We did do factory reset on it bc all washing options on the right did not work.
As a matter of fact, speed queen a machine without an agitator, that filled up with water, and really created a vigorous wash action, i would have purchased one.
Weird as this may sound, but his “ logistics on viewers” must show that people watch these videos from start to finish, hence the non-edited videos. Insane? Yup, but it shows that pretty much everything nowadays has an audience.
I’ve noticed that the gearbox sounds smoother than it has in previous years. That’s a good thing.
All and all I think this did a great job!!! Kirk can you do the dirty jean test please??? Thanks and have a great weekend...

Do you have anymore videos on this washer?
I have an idea, fill the machine with high water then put clothes in push them down to soak them and let it wash
what is that noise at the 14:48 mark? sounded like something was slipping.

Hey kirk I love book phone test you can upload a video with phone book test of this washer???
Our deep fill is barely enough to cover the clothes. At 1 point it was trying wash a load without water.
This washer uses very little water in most cases.
How do you bypass the lid lock so it washes with the lid open?
Can this washer fill up any slower ? 😖
Nope 😅 I have one. It’s about as slow as it gets.
Kirk, out of all the washers you've tested, have experience with, what is the best one for the average household you would recommend, and why?
Can't wait
Why was it when you were testing it is was unbalanced but in this video it is not

Please do a speed wash test without clothes.

It done a great job washing that blanket and I recamend to everyone do not buy a Samsung or lg washer and dryer they will blow up
Sound with lid closed?
Request: Colors Cycle with Fabric Softener, Normal Soil, Warm Water, Fast Spin

Not a bad machine I guess but very mild agitation. I think the new Speed Queen TR series is even more aggressive.
