Figured I may as well add to your fear of the ocean. I was a fisherman for 8 years helping my family on their boat, 2 separate times while we were pulling up our “Long Line” (extremely long and kinda heavy rope used for fishing the very bottom of the ocean) it got to the point where it was too heavy for 2 grown men to pull up so we decided to tie it to our boat and tow it….while going in reverse and towing it we realized that we weren’t going anywhere so we upped the speed and still weren’t going anywhere, we finally went full speed reverse but still weren’t moving….so we decided to experiment and see what would happen if we just put the engine in neutral…..WE were towed the opposite direction for about 3 minutes until whatever it was got off the hook, when we finally got to the hook it was on we saw that whatever it was had bent the hook nearly completely straight. Second time found a couple family members fishing the same way and taking a break so we tied onto their boat and talked for a bit….until we all realized that both boats were being towed. We never found out what that thing was that had enough strength to tow boats and we likely never will find out. Have happy dreams, k bye ☺️

The reason why giant squids caught on film look so haggard is because only the sick and dying ones swim up to the surface.

The guy in your chat that said that "propellers scaring deal sea creatures is what keeps them down there" was spreading misinformation. They've been spending all their time down there long before the invention of the steam engine, let alone ship propellers. At most he could argue that they're avoiding certain types of light, as light doesn't reach that far beneath the surface.
It is entirely due to requirements of the pressure from the ocean depth, as demonstrated by the Blobfish in its natural environment when compared to being closer to the surface, and the fact that a good majority of deap sea creatures tend to not live if you take them higher than their preferred depths (for example Anglerfish and Bigfin squid) kinda debunks the argument that they can survive any depth.

FWIW when you were talking about them spraying the stuff out of their gills, it's the way they filter out the sediment they accidentally eat. They just chomp a mouthful, and of course there's a lot of particulate matter they can't/won't eat, so they hold their mouth closed and breath out, shooting the stuff out their gills. Then they can eat the larger chunks that didn't move when they closed their mouths. Totally get why you would say it's smoke though, and also the biomechanical thing. A lot of creatures down there have serious photosensitivity, and one way to offset that is to have somewhat translucent skin, apparently.

Yeah, many people who'd see a Japanese spider crab in person would call it creepy. Personally though I'd just call for more butter and a bigger pot.

I hate arachnids and their cousins, the crabs, and if you font know what I mean, well, they both have hydralic legs, which means if they die, the legs fold themselfes to the stomach.
And yes they are also related.

@lennartgamer2339 I actually think crayfish are pretty cool to me anyway, I kinda like seeing those crevices full of them especially out at the poor knights islands just off the coast here in New Zealand, it's a marine reserve so the area around those islands is a no fishing zone so the crayfish get massive
