I have been fascinated by this country since childhood, 50 years ago. Everything I see on this video and other videos on YT, I like, and why I like it is because it seems like a country which keeps the best of its ancient traditions while pursuing the best of the modern future. It also has exceptional nature and wonderful people, and is not yet crowded or ruined by "mass tourism". Greetings to "The Land of the Eagles" from the west part of Canada, I hope to visit you soon.
It is true! Albania is unique and I love this uniqueness. Indigenious people tend to have this uniqueness....We are called the most tolerant religious country in the world, but I can tell you why we are like that. We are a very ancient land and people, a culture being created long time ago before any organised religion, and even though people may say I'm a Muslim, a Christian or whatever, deep in our heart we are still spiritual Pagans. We believe in God without the need of Religion. We respect religion as long as it doesn't interfere with our traditions. Our culture, our traditions take priority over everything else.
We have so many superstitions that have nothing to do with religion.The same way Homer describes traditions and customs in " Illiad" and "Odissey", the same way we follow the same traditions. Really stubborn people...We don't care how the world is,we still stick to our own culture. The world has become One and boring, but I love it that we are still different. I still love going to the weddings in the villages and wear our old traditional clothes. It is so much fun and cute at the same time.....

@@canadaauroraborealis3958 The name Albania comes from an Illyrian tribe that populated the central Albania called Albanoi tribe. When Slavs came into Balkans and assimilated most of the Illyrian tribes who stretched from Slovenia to Danub area, the only Illyrian tribes who didn't get assimilated were the Albanoi tribe, due to it's proximity to the center of Illyrian Kingdom which was Shkodra( Albania of today) and the difficulties of terrain that protected us from assimilation. To be distinguished from these assimilated populations, we were called Albanians. The Romans were the first to call us that. We were called Albanians, Arbanians,Arvanites in Greece area, Arnauts in Turkey,Epirots or Macedonian as well( all Illyrian and Pelasgian tribes, the same language, different dialects). The name Shqiperia came late into our use. We were called Albanians or Arbanians, but our language was called Shqip( it means to speak a clear language to us, different from our neighbours). Shqipe or Shqiponje is Albanian word for "Eagle" and that became our symbol of Albania. Shqiperia means " Land of the Eagles" and Shqipetare means " Sons of the Eagle".
The Ancient "Greek" is a big fat lie.The only people populated these lands were Pelasgian and Illyrian's tribes. Romans changed the names and messed the whole Antiquity history.Greece has changed language twice during history. The Ancient Greek language has nothing to do with Modern Greek. Greek language of today is a technical language used by Romans into offices, but not used from population. The same one Rome used for Bizantyne Empire which was their Eastern Roman Empire. The language spoken in the streets of Greece until the Revolution of 1821 was Arvanites-aka Albanian. King Otto of Bavaria decided to stamp down this language and put the fake, technical language to all population, in order to bring back the " Ancient Helen's". Not a single writer of Antiquity speaks about Helen's and Greeks. These terms were invented by Romans.
The real people who have the right to claim "Ancient" history of the Balkans are Albanians. Greece's majority is descendant of Albanian population, but they are not allowed to learn and speak their language. They were taught to believe that they are Ancient Helen's. In reality they are Ancient"Greeks" but only by claiming their heritage from us.
Albanian language is the one that can clarify the old scripters and is more closer to Homer language than modern Greek, but due to our circumstances( communism) hasn't been studied at all.
Lately, the historians and linguists are studying our language and I believe very soon we will hear a completely new history of Balkans which the real name of it is
" Illyricum Peninsula" . Turkey along with Russia and with the big blessing of Big Powers of Europe decided to change the name and try to destroy and vanish the Albanians, the original inhabitants of Balkans of today.
The Greek and Serbian Church hate more than anything our Pagan culture and they have fought so much against it. Imagine the Greek church has cursed Albanian language. Is there a Church who can curse a language?
I simply mentioned it to tell you how oppressed we have been the last centuries by Turks, Greeks and Slavs.
But we are strong people, we survived genocides of all kinds, we will prevail again. Even Nostradamus have mentioned that after 2012,Albanians will write their history.

I'm planning to visit more of the Balkan countries and focussing on the west coast right now. What are some places you just need to see in Albania if you are mostly interested in Culture and History?
If you are interested in culture and history you should visit Butrint, Bylis, Apolonia and Gjirokaster. Butrint was an ancient illyrian city in Illyria. Inhabited since prehistoric times... The village is huge and full of ancient structures, Google it and see the images. Apolonia is also a very small city situated in south, also called the city of the sun. there is a building similar to akropoli in athens. Since butrint and apolonia have million of tourists each year there are groups of people which explain the story while you walk around the city. Gjirokaster is an ancient city also with small roads and ancient buildings. Kruja is also an historical city, the albanian hero Skenderbeu was born there, the castle of kruja was skenderbeu's home. It's a beautiful castle, you should visit it and learn more about the history of albania and how skenderbeu defeated ottoman empire and protected europe. Then there are cities like berat with an ancient architecture... Other cities have also castles, historical monuments etc ... be sure to google all the cities i mentioned above :) If you have any other question, i'm here to answer and help you with all the necessary information! 1 hour with plane and 2-3 hours with a car. And no you don't need visa to enter Albania, all you need is your id card and passport. :)

Thanks, but why is it better ? are beatches clean ? is there alot of free wi-fi cafes ? or can one buy a cashcard for the sellphone for internet ? how is safty for tourists ? Croatia and greece are famous for tourists and i never hear anything bad about them, maybe Albania is something like it but not to many people have discover it yet. And what i read food is great and hospitallyty and friendliness from people are BIG and GREAT.
