      I can see how she could be nervous around strangers, who don't know her at all, when she ticcing, but for her community here Evie is just amazing Evie. I would never be embarrassed to be seen with her in public, or to be in a restaurant with her, or a store. It would be wonderful if she could be relieved of these conditions, but she's still amazing and adorable, with or without the conditions. She's still Evie, either way.

      Yes! I have a condition similar to Tourette's (basically I hypersalivate so I make gulping noises every 30 seconds because if I don't swallow my spit, I will choke and literally die). I'm that student everyone glares at and calls annoying because I make a lot of noise in quiet classrooms and during lectures. It's hard to study with people due to this. I felt very isolated, so I'm glad I found her channel and happy to see a community of people facing similar challenges ❤. I am aware that I will never fully know what it is like to have Tourette's, but I am just saying that I feel welcomed by these people because I make noises I can't avoid or stop--unless I want to die.

    When my 9 year old son was really down about his tics, I showed him two of your videos. He smiled and said “at least I know I’m not alone.” Since that day, he’s been incredibly more open discussing his tics with me and now feels comfortable informing others of his tics. Thank you for continuing to share your experience with Tourette’s. You are spreading so much awareness and letting others know they are not alone. Thank you for being a calm energy, kind voice, and guiding light for people like my son!

I could see the way you were so relaxed and enjoying the camaraderie of your fellow "family" I guess would be the best word. It filled me with joy to see you so relaxed and outwardly happy. But I did chuckle hearing "beans!" As you went down the zipline. I have no idea why I find that so endearing. Thanks for a great experience.

    I've just recently found your channel and I'm so glad you got to have a weekend to feel normal. It's more important then most people think. I didn't get that chance until much later in life.
    If I may share a story. When I was in grade school I would have these moments where my whole body would just jerk or jump and anything in my hands would get thrown across the room. Most times it would happen when the room was quiet and when it would happen it would scare the other kids and then they would break out in laughter and it made me feel really bad and upset at same time because I couldn't control what I was doing even though every one thought I was doing it on purpose. Nobody would listen. Teacher finally sent home a letter to my parents about it and my parents took me to see the doctor who said it was nothing but muscle spasms. It would happen multiple times daily for years but as I got older it did finally start to slow down to where it only happens a few times weekly. People have no clue that we have no control over our bodies which makes it more difficult to deal with. So I was never officially diagnosed with Tourette's but I'm pretty sure it's what I have with the research I've done. I was so tired of being laughed at I tried to end it when I was 9 but my mom caught me in time and rushed me to the ER. My parents moved to another school district and explained things to the principle and things got better with the laughter.
    I wish you the best and stay strong 😊

    I've heard that sometimes you can pick up tics of others when you hang around them. Did you notice that you picked up anybody else's tic habits while you were there? If so, how long did you hang onto it? Love that you share!

      I have a friend that goes to a large ts camp yearly! She said that one year, someone had a really long tic that half the campers ended up picking up. Months after she told me about it I still occasionally tic the sentence!

    • @PaulaLPope
      @PaulaLPope 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ari_0451 That's what I was afraid of. So, do you feel it's still worth it to attend a program like that, knowing the likelihood of picking up those tics that you'll carry with you for a while?

    • @Ari_0451
      @Ari_0451 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PaulaLPope I think it really depends on the person. Your tics will definitely get worse at first, but they soon calm down once everyone is used to each other. If you know that walking away with more tics (possibly more offensive or physically harmful) is not worth it, don't go.
      However, having this safe space where everyone can be themselves, where you don't have to suppress and where you make so many friends (which is difficult for a lot of people with ts) is so incredibly worth it. Personally, if I had the chance to go I absolutely would. Tics naturally wax and wane so the majority of tics you pick up will not be permanent.

    Question: does being around others with Tourette’s make it less likely to have tic attacks because you’re not suppressing? Is it the opposite? Or does it not matter?

      depends on the person TBH. sometimes you tic more often because youre set off by others tics but sometimes it doesnt have any impact

    Thanks very much for sharing. As a kid, I attended a summer camp several years in a row, in northern Ontario, Canada. My pal Donny and I always attended the archery range. Once, we decided to see how far/high we could shoot, and fired over the hay bales by perhaps 50 yards, his mom who was the wife of the camp director was carrying laundry in a basket across the large field and one of our arrows, landed IN the basket. We both had a stern talking to over that stupid move. Yikes! That aside, camp was always a blast!

  • @SofiaRoseC

    What kind of precautions do they have to take when you guys are with the bow and arrows? I assume it could be very dangerous if a tic wakes up and chooses violence

    • @ServantofBaal
      @ServantofBaal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stand directly behind the shooter. You'll have a fair bit of warning if they spin around and loose, and I don't think their tics will be aiming too well so a stray arrow at worst case scenario
