A few of you reached out and asked if I would carve a more advanced version of the quick Gnome I posted a few weeks ago, so hear it is! Enjoy!
This is a mostly knife only project with the addition of a 3mm gouge and is carved in a 2" x 2" x 3.5" basswood block--cut diagonally.

That's so awesome I can not wait to try it out !!!
Glad to hear!
Alec and Doug, the super powers of the carving world! I wish I knew you guys in real life! I appreciate you and Doug making these great videos! I can learn more in 10 minutes with you guys than reading any book
Wow, I really enjoyed watching your carving video. Thanks great job.
Thank you Randy!
This is one of the best renditions of a gnome head I have seen. Small doesn’t necessarily mean cartoon-like. I love cartoonish too but this is great. Thanks Alec
So glad!! Thank you!!
Nice video, nice carving. Love watching you carve.
I've seen a lot of these carving videos and I have to say this video that you have out has been more beneficial than any I've seen . Jodi also has some good videos out as well for larger carvings which I'm starting now
Thank you so much!
Great video Alec! Really like watching your knife technique, seems easier to replicate as you tend to really explain how and what your doing with the knife. Cant believe your just 10 degrees above freezing. I'm down in Texas and we have already had a couple of days that have gotten up to the low 90s
Glad it's helpful to you Kevin!
Great advise, small cuts at a time. When I was beginning to carve the advice was, don't be afraid to cut wood away. Don't take little cuts, get it off. Course they were talking about the roughing out but I've always been one to make small cuts unless it's something you know has to be removed. My problem has always been that while making small cuts I usually stop too soon and not cut enough away. Anyway I like the, take your time and make small cuts advice.
Thanks Ken!
Another fantastic and instructive video, Alec. And a great rendition of your friend, Doug as a gnome! 😎
haha! Hilarious
Love him. Thanks for a great video.
Thanks for the kind comment!
That’s a great video, thank you so much. I’m learning to make face patterns on basswood with your videos, keep making them more and more
Thanks! Will do!
Very nice, my grandson and I will be trying your design. Thank you for sharing 😊
Good to hear!
Great little carve 👍

Badger State Blades bro 🤙🏽
A gnome and Santa are mostly a hat away from each other!
Great video! Will try some closed eyes
Wow awesome video.
Thanks!!!
Great video, awesome way to carve the eyes! I'm definitely borrowing/ going to try to do that!

@@Hobbyen-met-Peter sure do!

Hey Alec, great csrve! BTW, your knife is a badger state blade, not beaver state….wrong animal lol
Awesome! Definitely going to carve that headlamp!! 😀😄 just kidding, thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you SO much! Sorry for the delayed response!!
Great wee gnome there Alec. 👍🏻 I’m gonna give this guy a go once I’ve finished my profile…. Perhaps in 2058?…. 😂😭
Thanks Jim!!
Very good I really enjoyed it…..
Oh weird!
Great carving sure subscribe .
Thanks Glen! Glad to have you!
How do you split the wood to get it in half? Axe or band saw?
hey Alec, can you fix the link for the honing compound for strop? It brings up basswood blocks. Thanks
Ohh, I'll look into it!
Do you carve anything else. Like I do carve songbirds and grizzlybears ??
Sometimes! What about you?
Which is the best paint to use that we can use for outside?
I would look into rhino paint!
Why aren't you wearing a glove?
I don't prefer them! Do as I say not as I do!
