      And right there are the two major reasons these videos are on this channel: (1) help you remember old forgotten ones and (2) finding new ones! It's comments like this that make this worthwhile! Thanks for letting me know it's working! :D

    Another great vid, thanks. I'm going to pick up Moto Racer World Tour which looks to be inexpensive and fun, with solid control and environments. I wish I'd bought Lomax back in the day -- I almost bought it several times back in the PS1 era. It really looks gorgeous and I read that it has good platforming gameplay -- but alas, the price has gone through the roof in the past few years... It's funny how sometimes you let a game slip by during its generation, and then start to appreciate how cool it looks only many years later ... and in this case, since 2D platforming is having a bit of an indie comeback these days, I have a yearning to play the innovative ones from the 90's, to compare old and new.

    im looking for a ps1 fighting game it was chinese fighters. The story mode was open world with characters walking animation similar to Wutang: Shaolin style. You would go around the town talking to npcs and then random fights would begin. The fighting was 3d style similar to tekken 3. I remember whoever won the match, a little transistion would occur to a cutscene of the winner doing a dance or taichi of some sort. Thank you to whoever finds this

    I'm really happy this list is out. But perhaps a small thing, could you 'rank' them in any way? Some of these games seem to be 'hidden gems' only to run smack dab into "forgotton attrocities" territory

    • @GaryRetroGamer
      @GaryRetroGamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, an excellent request! If you look at many of my other videos, I often put the Metacritic ranking. Unfortunately, for the bulk of these PS1 games, no such Metacritic scores exist. In that case, you're left to find reviews in old gaming magazines (e.g. Edge, Gamepro, CV+G, Edge etc) - and even then, a single review score is pretty subjective - which is why I don't use them. Even more difficult is that some of the more obscure games don't even any reviews at all.
      As for me putting my personal take on them - I usually don't get to spend a lot of time on a game when making these videos (usually less than 10 minutes) - certainly not enough to make a fair judgement; and definitely not enough to risk sending one of my viewers on an expensive Ebay quest for what turns out to be more atrocity then gem.
      Many of the games in these videos at least have a Wikipedia page which often discusses how the game was received, often including references to those gaming reviews; all I can suggest is that if you see one that stands out to you, look up the Wikipedia page and see if it was regarded as any good. Or, if you're not sure - maybe just post a comment on this video and ask if any of the other viewers have any experience?

    Can you do Japanese only games sometime? I think it'd be a neat idea

    • @GaryRetroGamer
      @GaryRetroGamer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get asked this a lot. While I agree it's a neat idea, my Japanese comprehension is not enough to make good videos. While many people think "It's easy, just keep clicking X until you get to some good gameplay" - the truth is far from it. I'm simply not capable of doing Japanese games justice. I do throw a few Japanese games in here and there, but there are many other channels on youtube that do a better job than I could.
